Verš 1
Before the feast day of the Passover, Jesus knew that the hour was approaching when he would pass from this world to the Father. And since he had always loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
Mt 26:2 - “You know that after two days the Passover will begin, and the Son of man will be handed over to be crucified.”
Mk 14:1 - Now the feast of Passover and of Unleavened Bread was two days away. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, were seeking a means by which they might deceitfully seize him and kill him.
Lk 22:1 - Now the days of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called Passover, were approaching.

And when the meal had taken place, when the devil had now put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray him,
Jn 13:27 - And after the morsel, Satan entered into him. And Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.”

knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he came from God and was going to God,

Jesus responded and said to him: “What I am doing, you do not now understand. But you shall understand it afterward.”

Jesus said to him: “He who is washed need only wash his feet, and then he will be entirely clean. And you are clean, but not all.”

For he knew which one would betray him. For this reason, he said, “You are not all clean.” 624
Jn 6:64 - It is the Spirit who gives life. The flesh does not offer anything of benefit. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

You call me Teacher and Lord, and you speak well: for so I am.
Mt 23:8 - But you must not be called Master. For One is your Master, and you are all brothers.
Mt 23:10 - Neither should you be called teachers. For One is your Teacher, the Christ.
1Kor 8:6 - yet we know that there is only one God, the Father, from whom all things are, and in whom we are, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and by whom we are.
1Kor 12:3 - Because of this, I would have you know that no one speaking in the Spirit of God utters a curse against Jesus. And no one is able to say that Jesus is Lord, except in the Holy Spirit.
Flp 2:11 - and so that every tongue would confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

Therefore, if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash the feet of one another.
Gal 6:1 - And, brothers, if a man has been overtaken by any offense, you who are spiritual should instruct someone like this with a spirit of leniency, considering that you yourselves might also be tempted.

For I have given you an example, so that just as I have done for you, so also should you do.
1Pt 2:21 - For you have been called to this because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in his footsteps.
1Jn 2:6 - Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.

Amen, amen, I say to you, the servant is not greater than his Lord, and the apostle is not greater than he who sent him.
Mt 10:24 - The disciple is not above the teacher, nor is the servant above his master.
Lk 6:40 - The disciple is not above his teacher. But each one will be perfected, if he is like his teacher.
Jn 15:20 - Remember my saying that I told you: The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

I am not speaking about all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But this is so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me shall lift up his heel against me.’
Ž 41:9 - In the daylight, the Lord has ordered his mercy; and in the night, a canticle to him. With me is a prayer to the God of my life.
Mt 26:23 - But he responded by saying: “He who dips his hand with me into the dish, the same will betray me.

And I tell you this now, before it happens, so that when it has happened, you may believe that I am.

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives anyone whom I send, receives me. And whoever receives me, receives him who sent me.”

Verš 21
When Jesus had said these things, he was troubled in spirit. And he bore witness by saying: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that one among you shall betray me.”
Mt 26:21 - And while they were eating, he said: “Amen I say to you, that one of you is about to betray me.”
Mk 14:18 - And while reclining and eating with them at table, Jesus said, “Amen I say to you, that one of you, who eats with me, will betray me.”
Lk 22:21 - But in truth, behold, the hand of my betrayer is with me at table.
Sk 1:17 - He had been numbered among us, and he was chosen by lot for this ministry.
1Jn 2:19 - They went out from among us, but they were not of us. For, if they had been of us, certainly they would have remained with us. But in this way, it is made manifest that none of them are of us.

And leaning against the bosom of Jesus was one of his disciples, the one whom Jesus loved.
Jn 20:2 - Therefore, she ran and went to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and she said to them, “They have taken the Lord away from the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”
Jn 21:7 - Therefore, the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” Simon Peter, when he had heard that it was the Lord, wrapped his tunic around himself, (for he was naked) and he cast himself into the sea.
Jn 21:20 - Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, the one who also had leaned on his chest at supper and said, “Lord, who is it who shall betray you?”

For some were thinking that, because Judas held the purse, that Jesus had told him, “Buy those things which are needed by us for the feast day,” or that he might give something to the needy.
Jn 12:6 - Now he said this, not out of concern for the needy, but because he was a thief and, since he held the purse, he used to carry what was put into it.

If God has been glorified in him, then God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him without delay.

Little sons, for a brief while, I am with you. You shall seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go,’ so also I say to you now.
Jn 7:34 - You shall seek me, and you will not find me. And where I am, you are not able to go.”
Jn 8:21 - Therefore, Jesus again spoke to them: “I am going, and you shall seek me. And you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you are not able to go.”

I give you a new commandment: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, so also must you love one another.
Lv 19:18 - Do not seek revenge, neither should you be mindful of the injury of your fellow citizens. You shall love your friend as yourself. I am the Lord.
Mt 22:39 - But the second is similar to it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Jn 15:12 - This is my precept: that you love one another, just as I have loved you.
Ef 5:2 - And walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and delivered himself for us, as an oblation and a sacrifice to God, with a fragrance of sweetness.
1Sol 4:9 - But concerning the charity of brotherhood, we have no need to write to you. For you yourselves have learned from God that you should love one another.
1Pt 4:8 - But, before all things, have a constant mutual charity among yourselves. For love covers a multitude of sins.
1Jn 3:23 - And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he has commanded us.

By this, all shall recognize that you are my disciples: if you will have love for one another.”
1Jn 2:5 - But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the charity of God is perfected. And by this we know that we are in him.
1Jn 4:20 - If anyone says that he loves God, but hates his brother, then he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he does see, in what way can he love God, whom he does not see?

Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus responded: “Where I am going, you are not able to follow me now. But you shall follow afterward.”
Jn 21:18 - Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked wherever you wanted. But when you are older, you will extend your hands, and another shall gird you and lead you where you do not want to go.”
2Pt 1:14 - For it is certain that the laying to rest of this, my tabernacle, is approaching swiftly, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has also indicated to me.

Peter said to him: “Why am I unable to follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!”
Mt 26:33 - Then Peter responded by saying to him, “Even if everyone else has fallen away from you, I will never fall away.”
Mk 14:29 - Then Peter said to him, “Even if all will have fallen away from you, yet I will not.”
Lk 22:33 - And he said to him, “Lord, I am prepared to go with you, even to prison and to death.”

Jesus answered him: “You will lay down your life for me? Amen, amen, I say to you, the rooster will not crow, until you deny me three times.”
Mt 26:34 - Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, that in this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”
Mk 14:30 - And Jesus said to him, “Amen I say to you, that this day, in this night, before the rooster has uttered its voice twice, you will deny me three times.”
Lk 22:34 - And he said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you have three times denied that you know me.” And he said to them,
Jn 13,1 - Ján už neopisuje ustanovenie Eucharistie pri Poslednej večeri, nakoľko táto udalosť je známa a zachytená troma synoptikmi; no opisuje umývanie nôh ako prejav poníženosti a lásky Ježiša Krista a potom ďalej zachytáva vzácnu Ježišovu rozlúčkovú reč a jeho veľkňazskú modlitbu (hl. 14-17).
Jn 13,15 - "Dal som vám príklad" sa nevzťahuje na samo umývanie nôh, ale na poníženosť a lásku, ktorú umývaním nôh Ježiš vyjadril; bez nej nik nemôže byť jeho pravým učeníkom.
Jn 13,21-30 - Mt 26, 21-25; Mk 14, 18-21; Lk 22, 21-23.
Jn 13,23 - Učeník, "ktorého Ježiš miloval", je sám Ján, autor tohto evanjelia. - Podľa vtedajších zvykov sa stolovalo poležiačky. Hostia sa opierali o ľavý lakeť a pravou rukou si brali jedlo. Ján bol po pravici Pána, a teda sa k nemu nachýlil, aby sa s ním rozprával, hlava mu pritom takrečeno spočívala na Ježišovej hrudi.
Jn 13,26 - Ježiš namočil kúsok chleba v tzv. "haroset", čo bola akási kaša z ovocia uvareného v octe. Bol to vlastne prejav pozornosti a priazne, keď hlava stola osobne niekomu poslúžila.
Jn 13,31-35 - Ide skutočne o nové prikázanie, pretože sa vzťahuje na všetkých. Aj Mojžišov zákon prikazoval milovať blížneho ako seba samého (Lv 19, 18). Prakticky však za blížneho považovali iba príslušníka svojho národa. Ide o nové prikázanie aj preto, lebo láska sa má odteraz stvárňovať podľa Kristovej lásky.
