1 (HEM) בן חכם מוסר אב ולץ לא שמע גערה׃
1 (UKJV) A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scorner hears not rebuke.

2 (HEM) מפרי פי איש יאכל טוב ונפש בגדים חמס׃
2 (UKJV) A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 (HEM) נצר פיו שמר נפשו פשק שפתיו מחתה לו׃
3 (UKJV) He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 (HEM) מתאוה ואין נפשו עצל ונפש חרצים תדשן׃
4 (UKJV) The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 (HEM) דבר שקר ישנא צדיק ורשע יבאיש ויחפיר׃
5 (UKJV) A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.

6 (HEM) צדקה תצר תם דרך ורשעה תסלף חטאת׃
6 (UKJV) Righteousness keeps him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

7 (HEM) יש מתעשר ואין כל מתרושש והון רב׃
7 (UKJV) There is that makes himself rich, yet has nothing: there is that makes himself poor, yet has great riches.

8 (HEM) כפר נפש איש עשרו ורש לא שמע גערה׃
8 (UKJV) The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor hears not rebuke.

9 (HEM) אור צדיקים ישמח ונר רשעים ידעך׃
9 (UKJV) The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 (HEM) רק בזדון יתן מצה ואת נועצים חכמה׃
10 (UKJV) Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 (HEM) הון מהבל ימעט וקבץ על יד ירבה׃
11 (UKJV) Wealth got by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

12 (HEM) תוחלת ממשכה מחלה לב ועץ חיים תאוה באה׃
12 (UKJV) Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.

13 (HEM) בז לדבר יחבל לו וירא מצוה הוא ישלם׃
13 (UKJV) Whoso despises the word shall be destroyed: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 (HEM) תורת חכם מקור חיים לסור ממקשי מות׃
14 (UKJV) The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 (HEM) שכל טוב יתן חן ודרך בגדים איתן׃
15 (UKJV) Good understanding gives favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 (HEM) כל ערום יעשה בדעת וכסיל יפרש אולת׃
16 (UKJV) Every prudent man deals with knowledge: but a fool lays open his folly.

17 (HEM) מלאך רשע יפל ברע וציר אמונים מרפא׃
17 (UKJV) A wicked messenger falls into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 (HEM) ריש וקלון פורע מוסר ושומר תוכחת יכבד׃
18 (UKJV) Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses instruction: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

19 (HEM) תאוה נהיה תערב לנפש ותועבת כסילים סור מרע׃
19 (UKJV) The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 (HEM) הלוך את חכמים וחכם ורעה כסילים ירוע׃
20 (UKJV) He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 (HEM) חטאים תרדף רעה ואת צדיקים ישלם טוב׃
21 (UKJV) Evil pursues sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

22 (HEM) טוב ינחיל בני בנים וצפון לצדיק חיל חוטא׃
22 (UKJV) A good man left an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 (HEM) רב אכל ניר ראשים ויש נספה בלא משפט׃
23 (UKJV) Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for lack of judgment.

24 (HEM) חושך שבטו שונא בנו ואהבו שחרו מוסר׃
24 (UKJV) He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.

25 (HEM) צדיק אכל לשבע נפשו ובטן רשעים תחסר׃
25 (UKJV) The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
