1 (CPDV) Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel. And the men of Israel fled before the face of the Philistines, and they fell down slain on mount Gilboa.
1 (KAT) Filištínci bojovali proti Izraelitom. Izraeliti utiekli pred Filištíncami a pozabíjaní ležali na vrchu Gelboe.

2 (CPDV) And the Philistines rushed upon Saul, and upon his sons, and they struck down Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
2 (KAT) Ale Filištínci stíhali Šaula a jeho synov. A tak Filištínci zabili Šaulových synov Jonatána, Abinadaba a Melchisuu.

3 (CPDV) And the entire weight of the battle was turned against Saul. And the men who were archers pursued him. And he was severely wounded by the archers.
3 (KAT) Bitka sa zostrila pri Šaulovi. Dostihli ho strelci, mužovia od kuše, ktorí ho ťažko poranili.

4 (CPDV) Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword and strike me, otherwise these uncircumcised may come and kill me, mocking me.” And his armor bearer was not willing. For he had been struck with an exceedingly great fear. And so, Saul took his own sword, and he fell upon it.
4 (KAT) Vtedy Šaul povedal svojmu zbrojnošovi: „Vytas svoj meč a prebodni ma ním, aby ma neprišli prebodnúť títo neobrezanci a nezhanobili ma!“ Ale zbrojnoš nechcel, lebo sa veľmi bál. Preto Šaul uchopil meč a vrhol sa naň.

5 (CPDV) And when his armor bearer had seen this, namely, that Saul had died, he too fell upon his sword, and he died with him.
5 (KAT) Keď zbrojnoš videl, že Šaul je mŕtvy, vrhol sa aj on na svoj meč a zomrel s ním.

6 (CPDV) Therefore, Saul died, and his three sons, and his armor bearer, and all his men, on the same day together.
6 (KAT) Takto zomreli v ten deň spoločne Šaul, jeho traja synovia, jeho zbrojnoš a všetci jeho mužovia.

7 (CPDV) Then, seeing that the men of the Israelites had fled, and that Saul had died with his sons, the men of Israel who were across the valley or beyond the Jordan abandoned their cities, and they fled. And the Philistines went and lived there.
7 (KAT) Keď Izraeliti, ktorí boli na druhej strane roviny a za Jordánom, videli, že Izraeliti utekajú a že sú Šaul a jeho synovia mŕtvi, opustili mestá a ušli. Potom prišli Filištínci a usadili sa v nich.

8 (CPDV) Then, when the next day arrived, the Philistines came, so that they might despoil the slain. And they found Saul and his three sons lying on mount Gilboa.
8 (KAT) Keď na druhý deň prišli Filištínci olupovať zabitých, našli Šaula a jeho troch synov padlých na vrchu Gelboe.

9 (CPDV) And they cut off the head of Saul. And they despoiled him of the armor, and they sent it into the land of the Philistines all around, so that it might be announced in the temples of the idols and among their people.
9 (KAT) Odťali mu hlavu, zobrali mu výstroj a poslali kolovať do filištínskej krajiny, aby to zvestovali v chrámoch svojich modiel a ľudu.

10 (CPDV) And they placed his armor in the temple of Ashtaroth. But his body they suspended on the wall of Bethshan.
10 (KAT) Jeho zbrane uložili v chráme Aštarty a jeho mŕtvolu obesili na múr Betsanu.

11 (CPDV) And when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead had heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
11 (KAT) Obyvatelia Jábes Galaádu sa dopočuli o tom, čo urobili Filištínci so Šaulom,

12 (CPDV) all the most valiant men rose up, and they walked all night, and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan. And they went to Jabesh Gilead, and they burned them there.
12 (KAT) vybrali sa všetci bojaschopní mužovia, pochodovali celú noc, sňali Šaulovu mŕtvolu a mŕtvoly jeho synov z múru Betsanu, vrátili sa do Jábesu a tam ich spálili.

13 (CPDV) And they took their bones, and they buried them in the forest of Jabesh. And they fasted for seven days.
13 (KAT) Potom vzali ich kosti a pochovali ich pod tamariškou v Jábese a postili sa sedem dní.
