1 (KJV) Watching for riches consumeth the flesh, and the care thereof driveth away sleep.
1 (KAT) Nespavosť pre bohatstvo zožiera telo a ustarostenosť oň zaženie spánok.

2 ----
2 (KJV) Watching care will not let a man slumber, as a sore disease breaketh sleep,
2 (KAT) Starosť o to, ako poznať budúcnosť, ruší myseľ, ťažká choroba prebúdza dušu k triezvosti.

3 (KJV) The rich hath great labour in gathering riches together; and when he resteth, he is filled with his delicates.
3 (KAT) Boháč sa namáha hromadením bohatstva, a keď spočinie, má plno statkov.

4 (KJV) The poor laboureth in his poor estate; and when he leaveth off, he is still needy.
4 (KAT) Namáha sa bedár, takže si odpiera aj živobytie, ale nakoniec ostáva (naďalej) núdzny.

5 (KJV) He that loveth gold shall not be justified, and he that followeth corruption shall have enough thereof.
5 (KAT) Kto má rád zlato, nebude bez viny, a kto sa ženie za svojím zničením, úplne si ho nájde.

6 (KJV) Gold hath been the ruin of many, and their destruction was present.
6 (KAT) Mnohí prišli do záhuby pre zlato, ale sami si pripravili skazu pre jeho lesk.

7 (KJV) It is a stumblingblock unto them that sacrifice unto it, and every fool shall be taken therewith.
7 (KAT) Polenom na pád je zlato pre tých, čo sa mu koria, ako aj tým, ktorí sa po ňom zháňajú; kto je nemúdry, každý preň zahynie.

8 (KJV) Blessed is the rich that is found without blemish, and hath not gone after gold.
8 (KAT) Blahoslavený každý, kto sa zachová bez úhony a kto sa nezháňa po zlate, ani svoju nádej neskladá v peniazoch a poklade.

9 (KJV) Who is he? and we will call him blessed: for wonderful things hath he done among his people.
9 (KAT) Ktože je to? - aby sme ho chválili, lebo obdivuhodný (príklad) dal svojím životom.

10 (KJV) Who hath been tried thereby, and found perfect? then let him glory. Who might offend, and hath not offended? or done evil, and hath not done it?
10 (KAT) Veď kto sa osvedčil a ukázal, že je dokonalý, tomu patrí večná sláva! Lebo mohol prestúpiť (zákon), ale ho neprestúpil, a mohol robiť zle, ale neurobil tak.

11 (KJV) His goods shall be established, and the congregation shall declare his alms.
11 (KAT) Preto sám Pán upevní jeho bohatstvo (navždy) a o jeho dobrých skutkoch bude hovoriť celé zhromaždenie svätých.

12 (KJV) If thou sit at a bountiful table, be not greedy upon it, and say not, There is much meat on it.
12 (KAT) Ak sedíš za skvelým stolom, neotváraj nad ním prvý ústa!

13 (KJV) Remember that a wicked eye is an evil thing: and what is created more wicked than an eye? therefore it weepeth upon every occasion.
13 (KAT) Ani nehovor: „Ako mnoho je toho, čo je na ňom!“

14 (KJV) Stretch not thine hand whithersoever it looketh, and thrust it not with him into the dish.
14 (KAT) Pamätaj, že závistlivé oko je zlé.

15 (KJV) Judge not thy neighbour by thyself: and be discreet in every point.
15 (KAT) Čože je zo všetkého stvorenia horšie ako (závistlivé) oko? Preto zaslzí pri každej veci, ktorú len zazrie.

16 (KJV) Eat as it becometh a man, those things which are set before thee; and devour note, lest thou be hated.
16 (KAT) Nenačahuj prvý rukou (do misy), aby si sa nemusel znevážený hanbiť pre svoju hltavosť.

17 (KJV) Leave off first for manners' sake; and be not unsatiable, lest thou offend.
17 (KAT) Nedaj sa tlačiť pri hostine!

18 (KJV) When thou sittest among many, reach not thine hand out first of all.
18 (KAT) Podľa seba poznaj, čo patrí tvojmu blížnemu;

19 (KJV) A very little is sufficient for a man well nurtured, and he fetcheth not his wind short upon his bed.
19 (KAT) ako slušný človek požívaj zo všetkého, čo ti predložia: ale tak, aby neopovrhli tebou, ak by si mnoho jedol.

20 (KJV) Sound sleep cometh of moderate eating: he riseth early, and his wits are with him: but the pain of watching, and choler, and pangs of the belly, are with an unsatiable man.
20 (KAT) Prestaň prvý jesť už pre slušnosť; a nebuď nemierny, aby si niekoho nepohoršil.

21 (KJV) And if thou hast been forced to eat, arise, go forth, vomit, and thou shalt have rest.
21 (KAT) Ak sedíš vo veľkej spoločnosti, nečiahaj prv ako oni rukou (do misy), ani si nežiadaj prvý piť!

22 (KJV) My son, hear me, and despise me not, and at the last thou shalt find as I told thee: in all thy works be quick, so shall there no sickness come unto thee.
22 (KAT) Ako veľmi stačí slušnému človekovi kvapka vína; pri spánku nebudeš mať od neho bolesti ani ťa nič trápiť nebude.

23 (KJV) Whoso is liberal of his meat, men shall speak well of him; and the report of his good housekeeping will be believed.
23 (KAT) Nespavosť, podráždenú žlč a trápne bolesti má iba nenásytník.

24 (KJV) But against him that is a niggard of his meat the whole city shall murmur; and the testimonies of his niggardness shall not be doubted of.
24 (KAT) Mierny človek má zdravý spánok, spí až do rána a v radostnej nálade.

25 (KJV) Shew not thy valiantness in wine; for wine hath destroyed many.
25 (KAT) Ak ťa nútia veľa jesť, vstaň zo spoločnosti, vyvrhni a uľahčí sa ti a nezapríčiníš si slabosť tela.

26 (KJV) The furnace proveth the edge by dipping: so doth wine the hearts of the proud by drunkeness.
26 (KAT) Synu, počúvaj ma a neopovrhuj mnou! - Nakoniec uznáš moje slová (za pravdivé).

27 (KJV) Wine is as good as life to a man, if it be drunk moderately: what life is then to a man that is without wine? for it was made to make men glad.
27 (KAT) Buď zručný pri všetkých svojich dielach, a tak ťa nestretne nijaká choroba.

28 (KJV) Wine measurably drunk and in season bringeth gladness of the heart, and cheerfulness of the mind:
28 (KAT) Kto je slušný pri jedle, pochvália ho za to ústa premnohých a svedectvo o jeho pravej (slušnosti) je spoľahlivé.

29 (KJV) But wine drunken with excess maketh bitterness of the mind, with brawling and quarrelling.
29 (KAT) Proti tomu, kto je neslušný pri jedle, šomre celé mesto a svedectvo o jeho neslušnosti je tiež pravdivé.

30 (KJV) Drunkenness increaseth the rage of a fool till he offend: it diminisheth strength, and maketh wounds.
30 (KAT) Milovníkov vína nevyzývaj na preteky, lebo víno už mnohým vyhasilo (život).

31 (KJV) Rebuke not thy neighbour at the wine, and despise him not in his mirth: give him no despiteful words, and press not upon him with urging him [to drink.]
31 (KAT) Oheň skúša tvrdé železo, tak aj víno v opilosti požité prezradí srdcia pyšných.

32 (KAT) Spokojný život pre ľudí - to je víno s mierou (požité), ak ho s mierou piješ, ostaneš triezvy.
