1 (KAT) Chlapec Samuel posluhoval pred Pánom pod dozorom Héliho. Božie slovo bolo v tých dňoch vzácne a videnie nebolo časté.
1 (VUL) Puer autem Samuel ministrabat Domino coram Heli. Et sermo Domini erat pretiosus in diebus illis: non erat visio frequens.
1 (UKJV) "And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision. "

2 (KAT) I stalo sa v ktorýsi deň, že Héli ležal na svojom mieste. Oči mu začínali hasnúť, takže nevidel.
2 (VUL) Factum est ergo in die quadam, Heli iacebat in loco suo, et oculi eius caligaverant, nec poterat videre.
2 (UKJV) "And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see; "

3 (KAT) Božie svetlo ešte nevyhaslo a Samuel spal v Pánovom chráme, kde bola archa zmluvy.
3 (VUL) Lucerna Dei nondum exstincta erat, et Samuel dormiebat in templo Domini, ubi erat arca Dei.
3 (UKJV) "And before the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep; "

4 (KAT) Tu zavolal na Samuela Pán. On odpovedal: „Tu som!“
4 (VUL) Et vocavit Dominus Samuel, qui respondens ait: “ Ecce ego ”.
4 (UKJV) That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

5 (KAT) Bežal k Hélimu a vravel: „Tu som, pane, volal si ma!“ On odvetil: „Nevolal som, spi ďalej!“ Odišiel teda a spal.
5 (VUL) Et cucurrit ad Heli et dixit: “ Ecce ego; vocasti enim me ”. Qui dixit: “ Non vocavi. Revertere; dormi! ”. Et abiit et dormivit.

6 (KAT) Ale Pán volal zasa: „Samuel!“ Samuel vstal, išiel k Hélimu a vravel: „Tu som, volal si ma.“ On odpovedal: „Nevolal som ťa, syn môj, spi ďalej!“
6 (VUL) Et Dominus rursum vocavit Samuel. Consurgensque Samuel abiit ad Heli et dixit: “ Ecce ego, quia vocasti me ”. Qui respondit: “ Non vocavi te, fili mi. Revertere et dormi! ”.
6 (UKJV) "And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for you did call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. "

7 (KAT) Samuel však ešte nepoznal Pána, Pánovo slovo sa mu ešte nezjavilo.
7 (VUL) Porro Samuel necdum sciebat Dominum, neque revelatus fuerat ei sermo Domini.
7 (UKJV) Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

8 (KAT) A Pán opäť, tretí raz volal Samuela. On vstal, išiel k Hélimu a vravel: „Tu som, volal si ma.“ Vtedy Héli pochopil, že chlapca volá Pán.
8 (VUL) Et Dominus rursum vocavit Samuel tertio, qui consurgens abiit ad Heli
8 (UKJV) "And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for you did call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. "

9 (KAT) A Héli povedal Samuelovi: „Choď, ľahni si. A ak ťa bude zasa volať, povedz: Hovor, Pane, tvoj sluha počúva!“ Samuel odišiel a spal na svojom mieste.
9 (VUL) et ait: “ Ecce ego, quia vocasti me ”. Intellexit igitur Heli quia Dominus vocaret puerum, et ait ad Samuel: “ Vade et dormi; et, si deinceps vocaverit te, dices: “ Loquere, Domine, quia audit servus tuus” ”. Abiit ergo Samuel et dormivit in loco suo.
9 (UKJV) "Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call you, that you shall say, Speak, LORD; for your servant hears. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. "

10 (KAT) Pán prišiel, zastal si a volal ako predtým: „Samuel, Samuel!“ A Samuel odvetil: „Hovor, tvoj sluha počúva!“
10 (VUL) Et venit Dominus et stetit et vocavit, sicut vocaverat prius: “ Samuel, Samuel ”. Et ait Samuel: “ Loquere, quia audit servus tuus ”.

11 (KAT) Tu Pán povedal Samuelovi: „Hľa, ja urobím v Izraeli vec, ktorú keď niekto počuje, bude mu cvendžať v obidvoch ušiach.

11 (UKJV) And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that hears it shall tingle.

12 (VUL) In die illo suscitabo adversum Heli omnia, quae locutus sum super domum eius: incipiam et complebo.
12 (UKJV) In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13 (KAT) Oznámil som mu, že budem večne trestať jeho dom pre hriech, lebo vedel, že sa jeho synovia rúhajú, a nekarhal ich.
13 (VUL) Praedixi enim ei quod iudicaturus essem domum eius in aeternum propter iniquitatem, eo quod noverat filios suos contemnere Deum et non corripuit eos.
13 (UKJV) "For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knows; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. "

14 (KAT) Preto som Héliho domu prisahal: Vinu Héliho domu nemožno nikdy napraviť ani obetami, ani darmi.“
14 (VUL) Idcirco iuravi domui Heli quod non expietur iniquitas domus eius victimis et muneribus usque in aeternum ”.
14 (UKJV) And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

15 (KAT) Samuel spal až do rána a potom otvoril dvere Pánovho domu. Samuel sa bál oznámiť videnie Hélimu.
15 (VUL) Dormivit autem Samuel usque mane aperuitque ostia domus Domini. Et Samuel timebat indicare visionem Heli.
15 (UKJV) And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision.

16 (KAT) Ale Héli zavolal Samuela a povedal: „Samuel, syn môj!“ On odpovedal: „Tu som.“
16 (VUL) Vocavit ergo Heli Samuelem et dixit: “ Samuel, fili mi ”. Qui respondens ait: “ Praesto sum ”.
16 (UKJV) Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

17 (KAT) I spýtal sa ho: „Čo ti hovoril? Nezataj to predo mnou! Nech ti Boh urobí to a to, ak predo mnou zatajíš niečo z toho, čo ti hovoril!“
17 (VUL) Et interrogavit eum: “ Quis est sermo, quem locutus est ad te? Oro te, ne celaveris me. Haec faciat tibi Deus et haec addat, si absconderis a me sermonem ex omnibus verbis, quae dicta sunt tibi ”.
17 (UKJV) And he said, What is the thing that the LORD has said unto you? I pray you hide it not from me: God do so to you, and more also, if you hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto you.

18 (KAT) Nato mu Samuel rozpovedal všetko, nezatajil mu nič. A on povedal: „Je Pán. Nech urobí, čo uzná za dobré!“
18 (VUL) Indicavit itaque ei Samuel universos sermones et non abscondit ab eo. Et ille respondit: “ Dominus est! Quod bonum est in oculis suis, faciat ”.
18 (UKJV) And Samuel told him everything, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seems him good.

19 (KAT) Samuel dorastal, Pán bol s ním a ani jednému z jeho slov nedal padnúť na zem,
19 (VUL) Crevit autem Samuel, et Dominus erat cum eo, et non cecidit ex omnibus verbis eius in terram.
19 (UKJV) And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

20 (KAT) takže sa celý Izrael od Danu až po Bersabe dozvedel, že Samuel ako Pánov prorok je spoľahlivý.
20 (VUL) Et cognovit universus Israel a Dan usque Bersabee quod constitutus esset Samuel propheta Domini.
20 (UKJV) And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

21 (KAT) A Pán sa ďalej zjavoval v Šíle, lebo Pán sa zjavoval Samuelovi v Šíle podľa Pánovho slova.
21 (VUL) Et addidit Dominus ut appareret in Silo, quoniam revelatus fuerat Dominus Samueli in Silo iuxta verbum Domini. Et evenit sermo Samuelis universo Israeli.
21 (UKJV) And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.
