1Sam 17, 1-58

1 (UKJV) Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle, and were gathered together at Shochoh, which belongs to Judah, and pitched between Shochoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
1 ----

2 (UKJV) And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and pitched by the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
2 ----

3 (UKJV) And the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
3 ----

4 (UKJV) And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
4 (ROH) A vyšiel súbojník z vojska Filištínov, ktorému bolo meno Goliáš, z Gátu; vysoký bol šesť lakťov a piaď;
4 ----

5 (UKJV) "And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of armour formed by chains; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. "
5 (ROH) na hlave mal medenú prilbu a oblečený bol v šupinatom pancieri, ktorý vážil päť tisíc šeklov medi;
5 ----

6 (UKJV) And he had protective leg armor of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
6 (ROH) na svojich nohách mal medené plechovice a medený štít medzi svojimi plecami,
6 ----

7 (UKJV) "And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him. "
7 ----

8 (UKJV) And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are all of you come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and all of you servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
Či nie som ja Filištín a vy služobníci Saulovi? Vyberte si muža, ktorý by sišiel ku mne!
8 ----

9 (UKJV) If he be able to fight with me, and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall all of you be our servants, and serve us.
9 (ROH) Ak bude môcť bojovať so mnou a zabije ma, vtedy vám budeme za sluhov, a jestli ja jeho premôžem a zabijem ho, budete vy nám za sluhov a budete nám slúžiť.
9 ----

10 (UKJV) "And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. "
10 (ROH) A krome toho vravel Filištín: Ja som dnes pohanil vojská Izraelove. Nože mi tedy dajte muža, aby sme sa spolu borili!
10 ----

11 (UKJV) When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
11 (ROH) Keď počul Saul a celý Izrael tie slová Filištína, zľakli sa a báli sa veľmi.
11 ----

12 (UKJV) "Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehemjudah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man went among men for an old man in the days of Saul. "
12 (ROH) A tedy Dávid bol synom muža Efraťana, toho z Betlehema Júdovho, ktorému bolo meno Izai a ktorý mal osem synov. A človek žil za dní Saulových a bol už starý, pošlý vekom medzi ľuďmi.
12 ----

13 (UKJV) And the three eldest sons of Jesse went and followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
13 (ROH) A traja najstarší synovia Izaiho odíduc išli tiež za Saulom do boja. A mená jeho troch synov, ktorí boli odišli do boja, boly: Eliáb, prvorodený, a prvý po ňom Abinadáb a druhý Šamma.
13 ----

14 (UKJV) And David was the youngest: and the three eldest followed Saul.
14 (ROH) Dávid bol najmladší. A teda tí traja najstarší išli za Saulom.
14 ----

15 (UKJV) But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
15 (ROH) A Dávid odchádzaval a vše sa vrátil od Saula zase pásť ovce svojho otca do Betlehema.
15 ----

16 (UKJV) And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
16 ----

17 (UKJV) "And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for your brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp of your brethren; "
17 (ROH) A Izai povedal Dávidovi, svojmu synovi: Nože vezmi pre svojich bratov efu tohoto praženého zrna a týchto desať chlebov a bež s tým do tábora za svojimi bratmi.
17 ----

18 (UKJV) And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how your brethren fare, and take their pledge.
18 (ROH) A týchto desať čerstvých syrcov zanesieš veliteľovi ich tisíca a navštíviš svojich bratov a zvieš, ako sa majú, a vezmeš ich záloh.
18 ----

19 (UKJV) Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
19 (ROH) Medzitým Saul aj oni i všetci mužovia Izraelovi boli v doline Éla bojujúc s Filištínmi.
19 ----

20 (UKJV) "And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. "
20 ----

21 (UKJV) For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army.
21 (ROH) A postavil sa do šíku Izrael i Filištíni, šík proti šíku.
21 ----

22 (UKJV) And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
22 ----

23 (UKJV) And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
23 (ROH) Ale kým on hovoril s nimi, tu hľa, prichádzal hore postredný súbojník, Goliáš Filištínsky menom, z Gátu, z bojovných radov Filištínov a zase hovoril slová jako tamtie, a Dávid to počul.
23 ----

24 (UKJV) And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
24 (ROH) A všetci mužovia Izraelovi, keď uvideli muža, utekali pred ním a báli sa veľmi.
24 ----

25 (UKJV) And the men of Israel said, Have all of you seen this man that has come up? surely to defy Israel is he comes up: and it shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel.
25 (ROH) A mužovia Izraelovi vraveli medzi sebou: Či ste videli muža, ktorý to išiel sem hore? Lebo nato chodí sem hore, aby hanobil Izraela.
25 ----

26 (UKJV) And David spoke to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
26 ----

27 (UKJV) And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that kills him.
27 (ROH) A ľud mu odpovedal tie isté slová a riekol: Tak sa učiní mužovi, ktorý ho zabije.
27 ----

28 (UKJV) "And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why came you down here? and with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you are come down that you might see the battle. "
28 ----

29 (UKJV) And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
29 (ROH) A Dávid riekol: Čože som teraz urobil? Či mi nebolo rozkázané?
29 ----

30 (UKJV) And he turned from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
30 ----

31 (UKJV) And when the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul: and he sent for him.
31 ----

32 (UKJV) "And David said to Saul, Let no man's heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine. "
32 (ROH) A Dávid riekol Saulovi: Nech sa neľaká srdce človeka pre neho; tvoj služobník pojde a bude bojovať s tým Filištínom.
32 ----

33 (UKJV) And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
33 (ROH) Na to povedal Saul Dávidovi: Nebudeš môcť ísť proti tomu Filištínovi, aby si bojoval s ním, lebo ty si iba mládenček, a on je bojovník od svojej mladosti.
33 ----

34 (UKJV) And David said unto Saul, Your servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock:
34 (ROH) Ale Dávid odpovedal Saulovi: Tvoj služobník bol pastierom svojho otca pri drobnom stáde, a keď prišiel lev alebo medveď a niesol preč nejaké dobytča, ovcu alebo kozu, zo stáda,
34 ----

35 (UKJV) And I went out after him, and stroke him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and stroke him, and slew him.
35 ----

36 (UKJV) Your servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.
36 (ROH) I ľva i medveďa zabil tvoj služobník, a ten neobrezaný Filištín bude jako jeden z nich, pretože hanobil vojská živého Boha.
36 ----

37 (UKJV) David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with you.
37 (ROH) A ešte povedal Dávid: Hospodin, ktorý ma vytrhol z moci ľva a z moci medveďa, on ma vytrhne i z ruky tohoto Filištína. Na to povedal Saul Dávidovi: Iď, a Hospodin bude s tebou:
37 ----

38 (UKJV) "And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of armour formed by chains. "
38 (ROH) Vtedy obliekol Saul Dávida do svojich šiat, dal medenú prilbu na jeho hlavu a dal ho obliecť do panciera.
38 ----

39 (UKJV) "And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. "
A tak to složil Dávid so seba.
39 ----

40 (UKJV) "And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a pouch; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. "
40 (ROH) Ale vzal svoju palicu do svojej ruky a vybral si päť hladkých kameňov z potoka a vložil ich medzi pastierske náčinie, ktoré mal, a do kabely, a svoj prak si vzal do svojej ruky a tak sa blížil k Filištínovi.
40 ----

41 (UKJV) "And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. "
41 ----

42 (UKJV) And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and rosy, and of a fair countenance.
42 (ROH) Keď potom pozrel Filištín a uvidel Dávida, pohŕdol ním, pretože bol iba mládenček, rumenný a krásnej postavy.
42 ----

43 (UKJV) And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that you come to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
43 (ROH) A Filištín povedal Dávidovi: Či som ja pes, že ideš ku mne s palicami? A Filištín zlorečil Dávidovi svojimi bohmi.
43 ----

44 (UKJV) And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give your flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
44 (ROH) A taktiež povedal Filištín Dávidovi: Nože poď ku mne, a dám tvoje telo nebeským vtákom a poľnej zveri!
44 ----

45 (UKJV) Then said David to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
45 ----

46 (UKJV) "This day will the LORD deliver you into mine hand; and I will strike you, and take your head from you; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. "
46 (ROH) Dneská ťa vydá Hospodin do mojej ruky, a zabijem ťa a zotnem tvoju hlavu s teba a dnes vydám mŕtve telá tábora Filištínov nebeským vtákom a zemským šelmám, a tak zvedia, celá zem, že má Izrael Boha.
46 ----

47 (UKJV) And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.
47 (ROH) A zvie i celé toto shromaždenie, že nie mečom ani kopijou zachraňuje Hospodin, pretože boj je Hospodinov, a vydá vás do našej ruky.
47 ----

48 (UKJV) And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
48 (ROH) A stalo sa, keď potom povstal Filištín, išiel a blížil sa proti Dávidovi, poponáhľal sa Dávid a bežal smerom proti vojsku nepriateľa, oproti Filištínovi.
48 ----

49 (UKJV) "And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and stroke the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. "
49 ----

50 (UKJV) "So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and stroke the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. "
50 (ROH) A tak premohol Dávid Filištína prakom a kameňom a uderiac Filištína zabil ho, keď aj nemal Dávid v ruke meča.
50 ----

51 (UKJV) Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.
51 ----

52 (UKJV) And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until you come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
52 (ROH) A mužovia Izraelovi a Júdovi povstali, kričali a honili Filištínov až potiaľ, kde prijdeš do doliny, až ku bránam Ekróna.
52 ----

53 (UKJV) And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.
53 (ROH) Keď sa potom navrátili synovia Izraelovi od prenasledovania Filištínov, ktorých tuho stíhali, zrabovali ich tábor.
53 ----

54 (UKJV) "And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent. "
54 (ROH) A Dávid vzal hlavu Filištínovu a doniesol ju do Jeruzalema a jeho zbraň složil vo svojom stáne.
54 ----

55 (UKJV) And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As your soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.
55 (ROH) A keď videl Saul Dávida, keď išiel von proti Filištínovi, povedal Abnerovi, veliteľovi vojska: Čí je ten mládenec, Abner? A Abner odpovedal: Ako že žije tvoja duša, kráľu, neviem.
55 ----

56 (UKJV) And the king said, Enquire you whose son the teenager is.
56 (ROH) A kráľ povedal: Spýtaj sa ty, čí je to šuhaj.
56 ----

57 (UKJV) And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
57 (ROH) Keď sa potom navracoval Dávid od zabitia Filištína, pojal ho Abner a doviedol ho pred Saula. A hlavu Filištínovu držal vo svojej ruke.
57 ----

58 (UKJV) And Saul said to him, Whose son are you, you young man? And David answered, I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.
58 (ROH) A Saul mu povedal: Čí si ty syn, mládenče? A Dávid odpovedal: Syn tvojho služobníka Izaiho Betlehemského.
58 ----

1Sam 17, 1-58

Verš 20
"And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. "
1Sam 26:5 - And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.

Verš 15
But David went and returned from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem.
1Sam 16:19 - Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David your son, which is with the sheep.

1Sam 17,17 - Efa obsahovala asi 36 litrov. Pražené obilné zrno bolo u Izraelitov obvyklým pokrmom.

1Sam 17,18 - "Plukovník" doslovne: veliteľ nad tisícmi, tisícnik. – Koniec verša je nejasný. Nevieme určite, čo mal Dávid od bratov doniesť.

1Sam 17,34 - Levy a medvede boli kedysi v Palestíne časté, dnes ich tam už niet. Pastieri sa s dravou zverou púšťali do boja; aspoň zbytky roztrhaného zvieraťa museli vytrhnúť divej zveri z pysku a ukázať to pánovi stáda, ináč by boli museli pánovi nahradiť škodu (porov. Gn 31,39; Ex 22,13).

1Sam 17,52 - Gét čítame so LXX. Dnešný hebr. text a Vulg majú chybne: "prenasledovali ich až do doliny". – Podľa Joz 15,35 n. ležalo mesto Saraim blízo Socha a Azeky.

1Sam 17,55 - Dávid nebol stále na Šaulovom dvore (porov. 17,15).
