1 (KAT) Samuel hovoril Šaulovi: „Mňa poslal Pán, aby som ťa pomazal za kráľa nad jeho ľudom, nad Izraelom. Nuž počúvaj teraz hlas Pánových slov.
1 (VUL) Et dixit Samuel ad Saul: “ Me misit Dominus, ut unge rem te in regem super populum eius Israel. Nunc ergo audi vocem Domini.
1 (UKJV) Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken you unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

2 (KAT) Toto hovorí Pán zástupov: Chcem potrestať to, čo urobil Amalek Izraelu, že sa mu postavil do cesty, keď vystupoval z Egypta.
2 (VUL) Haec dicit Dominus exercituum: “Recensui, quaecumque fecit Amalec Israeli, quomodo restitit ei in via, cum ascenderet de Aegypto.
2 (UKJV) Thus says the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

3 (KAT) Teraz choď a poraz Amaleka. Daj do kliatby všetko, čo má, nezľutuj sa nad ním a usmrť mužov i ženy, nemluvňatá i dojčatá, voly i ovce, ťavy i osly!“
3 (VUL) Nunc igitur vade et demolire Amalec et percute anathemate universa eius; non parcas ei, sed interfice a viro usque ad mulierem et parvulum atque lactantem, bovem et ovem, camelum et asinum” ”.
3 (UKJV) "Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and nursing infant, ox and sheep, camel and ass. "

4 (KAT) Šaul zvolal ľud a spočítal ho v Telaime: dvestotisíc pešiakov a desaťtisíc mužov z Júdska.
4 (VUL) Convocavit itaque Saul populum et recensuit eos in Telem: ducenta milia peditum et decem milia virorum Iudae.

5 (UKJV) And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

6 (KAT) Kinejcom však Šaul povedal: „Odtiahnite a vzdiaľte sa spomedzi Amalekitov, aby som vás nezmietol s nimi! Veď vy ste preukázali milosť synom Izraela, keď vystupovali z Egypta!“ Nato sa Kinejci vzdialili spomedzi Amalekitov.
6 (VUL) dixitque Saul Cinaeo: “ Abite, recedite atque descendite ab Amalec, ne forte perdam te cum eo; tu enim fecisti misericordiam cum omnibus filiis Israel, cum ascenderent de Aegypto ”. Et recessit Cinaeus de medio Amalec.
6 (UKJV) And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for all of you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

7 (KAT) A Šaul porazil Amalekitov od Hevily až po Súr, ktorý je východne od Egypta.
7 (VUL) Percussitque Saul Amalec ab Hevila usque ad Sur, quae est e regione Aegypti.
7 (UKJV) And Saul stroke the Amalekites from Havilah until you come to Shur, that is opposite to Egypt.

8 (KAT) Kráľa Amalekitov Agaga chytil živého, na všetkom ľude však vyplnil kliatbu ostrím meča.
8 (VUL) Et apprehendit Agag regem Amalec vivum; omne autem vulgus interfecit in ore gladii.
8 (UKJV) And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

9 (KAT) Šaul a ľud ušetril Agaga aj to, čo bolo v stáde a čriede najlepšie, aj najtučnejšie baránky a všetko, čo bolo cenné; nechceli na tom vyplniť kliatbu. Vyplnili však kliatbu na všetkom, čo bolo podlé a biedne.
9 (VUL) Et pepercit Saul et populus Agag et optimis gregibus ovium et armentorum, pinguibus scilicet pecoribus et agnis et universis, quae pulchra erant, nec voluerunt disperdere ea; quidquid vero vile fuit et reprobum, hoc demoliti sunt.
9 (UKJV) But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

10 (KAT) Preto Pán hovoril Samuelovi:
10 (VUL) Factum est autem verbum Domini ad Samuel dicens:
10 (UKJV) Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

11 (KAT) „Ľutujem, že som Šaula ustanovil za kráľa, lebo odstúpil odo mňa a nesplnil moje slová.“ Samuel sa rozmrzel a volal k Pánovi celú noc.
11 (VUL) “ Paenitet me quod constituerim Saul regem, quia dereliquit me et verba mea opere non implevit ”. Contristatusque est Samuel et clamavit ad Dominum tota nocte.
11 (UKJV) "It repents me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night. "

12 (KAT) Včasráno sa však Samuel vybral za Šaulom. Tu Samuelovi oznámili: „Šaul išiel do Karmelu a postavil si pomník. Potom sa obrátil a prešiel dolu do Galgaly.“
12 (VUL) Cumque de nocte surrexisset Samuel, ut iret ad Saul mane, nuntiatum est Samueli quod venisset Saul in Carmel et erexisset sibi trophaeum et reversus transisset descendissetque in Galgala.

13 (KAT) Keď Samuel prišiel k Šaulovi, Šaul mu povedal: „Nech ťa požehná Pán. Splnil som Pánovo slovo.“
13 (VUL) Et cum venisset Samuel ad Saul, dixit ei Saul: “ Benedictus tu Domino; implevi verbum Domini ”.
13 (UKJV) And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be you of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

14 (KAT) Samuel však povedal: „A čo znamená bľačanie oviec, ktoré mi zneje v ušiach, a ručanie hoviad, ktoré počujem?“
14 (VUL) Dixitque Samuel: “ Et quae est haec vox gregum, quae resonat in auribus meis, et armentorum, quam ego audio? ”.
14 (UKJV) And Samuel said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

15 (KAT) Šaul odpovedal: „Od Amalekitov to doniesli, lebo ľud ušetril, čo bolo v stáde a čriede najlepšie, aby to obetoval Pánovi, tvojmu Bohu. Na ostatnom sme splnili kliatbu.“
15 (VUL) Et ait Saul: “ De Amalec adduxerunt ea; pepercit enim populus melioribus ovibus et armentis, ut immolarentur Domino Deo tuo; reliqua vero occidimus ”.
15 (UKJV) "And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. "

16 (KAT) Nato Samuel povedal Šaulovi: „Nechaj to! Oznámim ti, čo mi hovoril Pán tejto noci.“ Povedal mu: „Hovor!“

17 (VUL) Et ait Samuel: “ Nonne, cum parvulus esses in oculis tuis, caput in tribubus Israel factus es? Unxitque te Dominus regem super Israel
17 (UKJV) And Samuel said, When you were little in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed you king over Israel?

18 (KAT) Pán ťa vypravil na cestu a povedal: »Choď, splň kliatbu na hriešnikoch, na Amalekitoch, a bojuj proti nim, kým ich nezničíš.«
18 (VUL) et misit te Dominus in viam et ait: “ Vade et interfice peccatores Amalec et pugnabis contra eos usque ad internecionem eorum ”.
18 (UKJV) And the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

19 (KAT) Nuž prečo si nepočúval Pánov hlas, ale vrhol si sa na korisť a urobil si, čo sa Pánovi nepáči?“
19 (VUL) Quare ergo non audisti vocem Domini, sed versus ad praedam es et fecisti malum in oculis Domini? ”.
19 (UKJV) Wherefore then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but did fly upon the spoil, and did evil in the sight of the LORD?

20 (KAT) Šaul odpovedal Samuelovi: „Ba, počúval som Pánov hlas a šiel som cestou, po ktorej ma poslal Pán. Agaga, kráľa Amalekitov, som priviedol, ale na Amalekitoch som splnil kliatbu.
20 (VUL) Et ait Saul ad Samuelem: “ Immo audivi vocem Domini et ambulavi in via, per quam misit me Dominus; et adduxi Agag regem Amalec et Amalec interfeci.
20 (UKJV) And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

21 (KAT) Ľud však vzal z koristi ovce a dobytok, prvotiny z toho, čo bolo dané do kliatby, aby to v Galgale obetoval Pánovi.“
21 (VUL) Tulit autem populus de praeda oves et boves, primitias eorum, quae caesa sunt, ut immolet Domino Deo tuo in Galgalis ”.
21 (UKJV) But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD your God in Gilgal.

22 (KAT) Samuel odpovedal: „Azda sa Pánovi páčia celopaly a obety tak, ako poslušnosť Pánovmu hlasu? Veď poslušnosť je lepšia než obeta a poddanosť lepšia ako tuk baranov!
22 (VUL) Et ait Samuel: “ Numquid vult Dominus holocausta aut victimas et non potius ut oboediatur voci Domini? Melior est enim oboedientia quam victimae, et auscultare magis quam offerre adipem arietum.
22 (UKJV) And Samuel said, Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 (KAT) Lebo odbojnosť je (ako) hriech čarodejníctva, svojvoľnosť je (ako) hriech modlárstva. Pretože si pohrdol Pánovým slovom, zavrhne ťa, nebudeš kráľom!“
23 (VUL) Vere peccatum hariolandi est repugnare, et scelus idololatriae nolle acquiescere: pro eo ergo quod abiecisti sermonem Domini, abiecit te, ne sis rex ”.
23 (UKJV) For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.

24 (KAT) Šaul povedal Samuelovi: „Zhrešil som, lebo som prestúpil Pánov príkaz a tvoje slová, keď som sa bál ľudu a počúval som na ich hlas.
24 (VUL) Dixitque Saul ad Samuelem: “ Peccavi, quia praevaricatus sum sermonem Domini et verba tua timens populum et oboediens voci eorum;
24 (UKJV) And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

25 (VUL) sed nunc tolle, quaeso, peccatum meum et revertere mecum, ut adorem Dominum ”.
25 (UKJV) Now therefore, I pray you, pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD.

26 (KAT) Ale Samuel odpovedal Šaulovi: „Nevrátim sa s tebou. Pretože si pohrdol Pánovým slovom, Pán ťa zavrhol, aby si nebol kráľom nad Izraelom.“
26 (VUL) Et ait Samuel ad Saul: “ Non revertar tecum, quia proiecisti sermonem Domini; et proiecit te Dominus, ne sis rex super Israel ”.
26 (UKJV) And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with you: for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel.

27 (KAT) Keď sa Samuel obrátil na odchod, on chytil okraj jeho plášťa a ten sa odtrhol.
27 (VUL) Et conversus est Samuel, ut abiret; ille autem apprehendit summitatem pallii eius, quae et scissa est.
27 (UKJV) And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

28 (KAT) A Samuel mu povedal: „Pán dnes odtrhol od teba kráľovstvo Izraela a dal ho tvojmu blížnemu, ktorý je lepší ako ty.
28 (VUL) Et ait ad eum Samuel: “ Scidit Dominus regnum Israel a te hodie et tradidit illud proximo tuo meliori te.
28 (UKJV) And Samuel said unto him, The LORD has rent the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbour of yours, that is better than you.

29 (KAT) A Pevný Izraela neluhá a neľutuje, on nie je človek, aby ľutoval.“
29 (VUL) Porro Gloria Israel non mentitur et paenitudine non flectitur; neque enim homo est, ut agat paenitentiam ”.
29 (UKJV) And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

30 (KAT) Povedal: „Zhrešil som. Ale teraz ma ucti pred staršími môjho ľudu a pred Izraelom a vráť sa so mnou, budem sa klaňať Pánovi, tvojmu Bohu.“
30 (VUL) At ille ait: “ Peccavi, sed nunc honora me coram senibus populi mei et coram Israel; et revertere mecum, ut adorem Dominum Deum tuum ”.
30 (UKJV) Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.

31 (KAT) Samuel sa teda vrátil za Šaulom a Šaul sa klaňal Pánovi.
31 (VUL) Reversus ergo Samuel secutus est Saulem et adoravit Saul Dominum.
31 (UKJV) "So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD. "

32 (KAT) Potom hovoril Samuel: „Priveďte ku mne Agaga, kráľa Amalekitov!“ Agag prišiel k nemu a chvel sa. Agag povedal: „Aká trpká je smrť!“
32 (VUL) Dixitque Samuel: “ Adducite ad me Agag regem Amalec ”. Et oblatus est ei Agag tremens. Et dixit Agag: “ Certe secessit amaritudo mortis! ”.
32 (UKJV) Then said Samuel, Bring all of you here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

33 (KAT) Samuel však vravel: „Ako tvoj meč robil ženy bezdetnými, tak bude medzi ženami bezdetná tvoja matka.“ A Samuel Agaga rozsekal pred Pánom v Galgale.
33 (VUL) Et ait Samuel: “ Sicut fecit absque liberis mulieres gladius tuus, sic absque liberis erit inter mulieres mater tua ”. Et in frusta concidit Samuel Agag coram Domino in Galgalis.
33 (UKJV) And Samuel said, As the sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

34 (KAT) Potom šiel Samuel do Rámy, Šaul však išiel do svojho domova, do Šaulovej Gabay. A Samuel už nikdy nevidel Šaula až do dňa svojej smrti. Ale Samuel žialil za Šaulom, lebo Pán oľutoval, že Šaula ustanovil za kráľa nad Izraelom.
34 (VUL) Abiit autem Samuel in Rama; Saul vero ascendit in domum suam in Gabaa Saulis.
34 (UKJV) "Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. "

35 (VUL) Et non vidit Samuel ultra Saul usque ad diem mortis suae; verumtamen lugebat Samuel Saul, quoniam Dominum paenitebat quod constituisset Saul regem super Israel.
35 (UKJV) And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.
