2. kniha Machabejcov

1 (KJV) Then Judas Maccabeus, and they that were with him, went privily into the towns, and called their kinsfolks together, and took unto them all such as continued in the Jews' religion, and assembled about six thousand men.
1 (KAT) Júda Machabejec a jeho druhovia prichádzali tajne okľukami do osád, zvolávali svojich súkmeňovcov, zhromažďovali okolo seba takých, čo zostali verní židovstvu, a tak zohnali asi šesťtisíc mužov.

2 (KJV) And they called upon the Lord, that he would look upon the people that was trodden down of all; and also pity the temple profaned of ungodly men;
2 (KAT) Vzývali Pána, aby zhliadol na svoj ľud, ktorý všetci šliapu, aby sa zľutoval nad chrámom, ktorý znesväcujú bezbožníci,

3 (KJV) And that he would have compassion upon the city, sore defaced, and ready to be made even with the ground; and hear the blood that cried unto him,
3 (KAT) aby sa tiež zmiloval nad hynúcim mestom, ktoré malo byť čoskoro zrovnané so zemou, aby vypočul krv, ktorá volá k nemu,

4 (KJV) And remember the wicked slaughter of harmless infants, and the blasphemies committed against his name; and that he would shew his hatred against the wicked.
4 (KAT) a konečne aby sa rozpomenul na zločinné vraždenie nevinných detí a na rúhania, vyslovené proti jeho menu, a aby ukázal, že má v nenávisti všetko zlé.

5 (KJV) Now when Maccabeus had his company about him, he could not be withstood by the heathen: for the wrath of the Lord was turned into mercy.
5 (KAT) Keď mal Machabejec svoj ľud pohromade, pohania mu už viac nemohli odolať, pretože (predošlý) Pánov hnev sa obrátil na milosrdenstvo.

6 (KJV) Therefore he came at unawares, and burnt up towns and cities, and got into his hands the most commodious places, and overcame and put to flight no small number of his enemies.
6 (KAT) Neočakávane prepadával mestá a dediny a pálil ich; zaberal vhodné miesta, pričom premohol nie málo nepriateľov a obracal ich na útek.

7 (KJV) But specially took he advantage of the night for such privy attempts, insomuch that the fruit of his holiness was spread every where.
7 (KAT) Na takéto prepady si najradšej vyberal za spoločníka noc. Chýr o jeho udatnosti sa šíril na všetky strany.

8 (KJV) So when Philip saw that this man increased by little and little, and that things prospered with him still more and more, he wrote unto Ptolemeus, the governor of Celosyria and Phenice, to yield more aid to the king's affairs.
8 (KAT) Keď Filip videl, že ten muž dosiahol zakrátko veľký úspech - pretože mu často prialo šťastie, takže stále napredoval, - napísal Ptolemeovi, miestodržiteľovi Celosýrie a Fenície, aby sa postaral o podporu kráľovej veci.

9 (KJV) Then forthwith choosing Nicanor the son of Patroclus, one of his special friends, he sent him with no fewer than twenty thousand of all nations under him, to root out the whole generation of the Jews; and with him he joined also Gorgias a captain, who in matters of war had great experience.
9 (KAT) On hneď povolal Nikanora, syna Patroklovho, jedného zo svojich popredných priateľov, dal mu nie menej ako dvadsaťtisíc ozbrojencov zo všelijakých národov a poslal ho, aby vyhladil celý židovský národ. Ako vojvodcu mu pridelil Gorgiáša, veľmi skúseného bojovníka.

10 (KJV) So Nicanor undertook to make so much money of the captive Jews, as should defray the tribute of two thousand talents, which the king was to pay to the Romans.
10 (KAT) Nikanor sa rozhodol, že daň v sume dvetisíc talentov, ktorú mal kráľ odviesť Rimanom, zaokryje odpredajom židovských zajatcov.

11 (KJV) Wherefore immediately he sent to the cities upon the sea coast, proclaiming a sale of the captive Jews, and promising that they should have fourscore and ten bodies for one talent, not expecting the vengeance that was to follow upon him from the Almighty God.
11 (KAT) A hneď aj poslal do prímorských miest výzvu na výkup židovských otrokov. Sľuboval, že bude dávať deväťdesiat otrokov za jeden talent. Vtedy nemal tušenia o treste, ktorým ho mal postihnúť Všemohúci.

12 (KJV) Now when word was brought unto Judas of Nicanor's coming, and he had imparted unto those that were with him that the army was at hand,
12 (KAT) Júda sa však dozvedel o Nikanorovom príchode. Ale keď svojim oznámil, že sa blíži vojsko,

13 (KJV) They that were fearful, and distrusted the justice of God, fled, and conveyed themselves away.
13 (KAT) zbabelci a tí, čo nedôverovali v Božiu spravodlivosť, sa rozutekali.

14 (KJV) Others sold all that they had left, and withal besought the Lord to deliver them, sold by the wicked Nicanor before they met together:
14 (KAT) Iní zas predávali všetko, čo im zostalo, a zároveň sa modlili k Pánovi, aby ich vyslobodil od zločinného Nikanora, ktorý ich predal už pred bojom.

15 (KJV) And if not for their own sakes, yet for the covenants he had made with their fathers, and for his holy and glorious name's sake, by which they were called.
15 (KAT) A keby to (Boh) nechcel urobiť kvôli nim samým, nech to urobí aspoň pre zmluvu s ich otcami a kvôli svojmu vznešenému a velebnému menu, ktorým sa (Židia) označovali.

16 (KJV) So Maccabeus called his men together unto the number of six thousand, and exhorted them not to be stricken with terror of the enemy, nor to fear the great multitude of the heathen, who came wrongly against them; but to fight manfully,
16 (KAT) Machabejec teda zvolal svojich ľudí, šesťtisíc na počet. Povzbudzoval ich, aby sa neľakali nepriateľov, ani neklesali na mysli pre množstvo pohanov, ktorí nespravodlivo tiahnu proti nim, ale aby statočne bojovali;

17 (KJV) And to set before their eyes the injury that they had unjustly done to the holy place, and the cruel handling of the city, whereof they made a mockery, and also the taking away of the government of their forefathers:
17 (KAT) aby mali pritom pred očami zneuctenie, ktoré tamtí v svojej zločinnosti vykonali na svätom mieste, ako aj znásilnenie potupeného mesta a zrušenie poriadku, zdedeného od otcov.

18 (KJV) For they, said he, trust in their weapons and boldness; but our confidence is in the Almighty who at a beck can cast down both them that come against us, and also all the world.
18 (KAT) „Oni zaiste dôverujú zbraniam a svojej bezočivej odvahe,“ hovoril, „my však dôverujeme vo všemohúceho Boha, ktorý jediným pokynom môže zničiť nielen tých, čo proti nám tiahnu, ale aj celý svet.“

19 (KJV) Moreover, he recounted unto them what helps their forefathers had found, and how they were delivered, when under Sennacherib an hundred fourscore and five thousand perished.
19 (KAT) Okrem toho im pripomenul pomoc, ktorú kedysi dostávali (od Boha) ich predkovia, ako pomoc proti Sennacheribovi, keď zahynulo stoosemdesiatpäťtisíc,

20 (KJV) And he told them of the battle that they had in Babylon with the Galatians, how they came but eight thousand in all to the business, with four thousand Macedonians, and that the Macedonians being perplexed, the eight thousand destroyed an hundred and twenty thousand because of the help that they had from heaven, and so received a great booty.
20 (KAT) alebo bitku proti Galaťanom v Babylonii, kde vytiahlo do boja spolu osemtisíc mužov okrem štyroch tisícov Macedónčanov. Po zatlačení Macedónčanov, tých osemtisíc s pomocou, ktorú dostali z neba, zničilo až stodvadsaťtisíc (nepriateľov) a odniesli si aj bohatú korisť.

21 (KJV) Thus when he had made them bold with these words, and ready to die for the law and the country, he divided his army into four parts;
21 (KAT) Tak im dodal odvahy, že boli hotoví aj zomrieť za zákon a vlasť. Potom rozdelil vojsko na štyri oddiely.

22 (KJV) And joined with himself his own brethren, leaders of each band, to wit Simon, and Joseph, and Jonathan, giving each one fifteen hundred men.
22 (KAT) Svojich bratov Šimona, Jozefa a Jonatána ustanovil za vodcov jednotlivých oddielov: každému podriadil tisíc päťsto mužov.

23 (KJV) Also he appointed Eleazar to read the holy book: and when he had given them this watchword, The help of God; himself leading the first band,
23 (KAT) Keď dal Eleazar čítať z posvätnej knihy, vydal (Júda) heslo: „S Božou pomocou!“ Potom sám prevzal vedenie prvého oddielu a vytiahol proti Nikanorovi.

24 (KJV) And by the help of the Almighty they slew above nine thousand of their enemies, and wounded and maimed the most part of Nicanor's host, and so put all to flight;
24 (KAT) Keďže mali za spojenca Všemohúceho, podarilo sa im pobiť z nepriateľov vyše deväťtisíc mužov, väčšiu časť Nikanorovho vojska zranili a dokaličili a všetkých ostatných prinútili na útek.

25 (KJV) And took their money that came to buy them, and pursued them far: but lacking time they returned:
25 (KAT) Tým, ktorí ich prišli kupovať, pobrali peniaze a prenasledovali ich dosť ďaleko.

26 (KJV) For it was the day before the sabbath, and therefore they would no longer pursue them.
26 (KAT) Vrátili sa však, lebo čas súril. Bol totiž deň pred sobotou; preto ich nemohli ďalej prenasledovať.

27 (KJV) So when they had gathered their armour together, and spoiled their enemies, they occupied themselves about the sabbath, yielding exceeding praise and thanks to the Lord, who had preserved them unto that day, which was the beginning of mercy distilling upon them.
27 (KAT) Pozbierali po nich zbrane, pobrali korisť po nepriateľoch, svätili sobotu a nesmierne chválili a velebili Pána, ktorý ich chránil až po tento deň a začal im opäť preukazovať svoje milosrdenstvo.

28 (KJV) And after the sabbath, when they had given part of the spoils to the maimed, and the widows, and orphans, the residue they divided among themselves and their servants.
28 (KAT) Po sobote nadelili z koristi poškodencom, tiež vdovám a sirotám. Z ostatku nadelili svojim deťom.

29 (KJV) When this was done, and they had made a common supplication, they besought the merciful Lord to be reconciled with his servants for ever.
29 (KAT) Keď to dokončili, konali spoločnú modlitbu a prosili milosrdného Pána, aby sa dokonale zmieril so svojimi služobníkmi.

30 (KJV) Moreover of those that were with Timotheus and Bacchides, who fought against them, they slew above twenty thousand, and very easily got high and strong holds, and divided among themselves many spoils more, and made the maimed, orphans, widows, yea, and the aged also, equal in spoils with themselves.
30 (KAT) Bojovali aj s vojakmi Timoteja a Bakchidesa; pobili z nich vyše dvadsaťtisíc. Zmocnili sa vysoko položených a mimoriadne dôležitých pevností. Bohatú korisť podelili rovnakým dielom medzi sebou a (dali z nej) poškodeným aj sirotám, vdovám a starcom.

31 (KJV) And when they had gathered their armour together, they laid them up all carefully in convenient places, and the remnant of the spoils they brought to Jerusalem.
31 (KAT) Ich zbrane starostlivo pozbierali a všetky uložili na vhodných miestach; ostatnú korisť však priniesli do Jeruzalema.

32 (KJV) They slew also Philarches, that wicked person, who was with Timotheus, and had annoyed the Jews many ways.
32 (KAT) Zabili Fylarchesa, Timotejovho zločinného bojovníka, ktorý pripravil Židom nejednu krivdu.

33 (KJV) Furthermore at such time as they kept the feast for the victory in their country they burnt Callisthenes, that had set fire upon the holy gates, who had fled into a little house; and so he received a reward meet for his wickedness.
33 (KAT) Pri oslave víťazstva v rodnom meste upálili tých, ktorí zapálili sväté dvere a spolu s Kalistenesom utiekli do jedného domu. Tak dostal primeranú odmenu za svoju bezbožnosť.

34 (KJV) As for that most ungracious Nicanor, who had brought a thousand merchants to buy the Jews,
34 (KAT) Nikanor však, naničhodník, ktorý priviedol tisíc kupcov, aby kupovali židovských (otrokov),

35 (KJV) He was through the help of the Lord brought down by them, of whom he made least account; and putting off his glorious apparel, and discharging his company, he came like a fugitive servant through the midland unto Antioch having very great dishonour, for that his host was destroyed.
35 (KAT) bol s Božou pomocou pokorený tými, ktorých nemal za nič. Musel odložiť nádherné rúcho a opustený utekal z krajiny ako zbehnutý otrok, až došiel do Antiochie, celý nešťastný z toho, že mu zničili vojsko.

36 (KJV) Thus he, that took upon him to make good to the Romans their tribute by means of captives in Jerusalem, told abroad, that the Jews had God to fight for them, and therefore they could not be hurt, because they followed the laws that he gave them.
36 (KAT) On si zaumienil, že daň pre Rimanov vyrovná jeruzalemskými zajatcami, ale teraz musel vyhlásiť, že za Židov bojuje ich Boh a že Židia sú takto nezraniteľní, lebo sa pridržiavajú zákonov, ktoré im on ustanovil.
