1 (KAT) V spisoch sa nachádza, že prorok Jeremiáš rozkázal tým, ktorí mali odísť do zajatia, vziať z ohňa, ako bolo vyššie poznamenané; ďalej že prorok dal odchádzajúcim
1 (KJV) It is also found in the records, that Jeremy the prophet commanded them that were carried away to take of the fire, as it hath been signified:

2 (KAT) Zákon a kládol im na srdce, aby nezabúdali na Pánove príkazy a nepoblúdili na mysli, keď uvidia zlaté a strieborné modly a ich nádheru.
2 (KJV) And how that the prophet, having given them the law, charged them not to forget the commandments of the Lord, and that they should not err in their minds, when they see images of silver and gold, with their ornaments.

3 (KAT) Medziiným ich tiež povzbudzoval, aby nevyhodili Zákon zo svojich sŕdc.
3 (KJV) And with other such speeches exhorted he them, that the law should not depart from their hearts.

4 (KAT) V tom spise bolo aj to, ako prorok na Boží popud, ktorého sa mu dostalo, rozkázal niesť za sebou stánok a archu, keď sa vybral na vrch, na ktorý vystúpil Mojžiš, aby sa zahľadel na Božie dedičstvo.
4 (KJV) It was also contained in the same writing, that the prophet, being warned of God, commanded the tabernacle and the ark to go with him, as he went forth into the mountain, where Moses climbed up, and saw the heritage of God.

5 (KAT) Keď tam Jeremiáš prišiel, vyhľadal jaskynný príbytok a zaniesol tam stánok, archu aj kadidlový oltár a vchod zatarasil.
5 (KJV) And when Jeremy came thither, he found an hollow cave, wherein he laid the tabernacle, and the ark, and the altar of incense, and so stopped the door.

6 (KAT) Potom prišli niektorí z jeho sprievodcov, aby si poznačili cestu, ale nemohli ju nájsť.
6 (KJV) And some of those that followed him came to mark the way, but they could not find it.

7 (KAT) Keď sa to Jeremiáš dozvedel, pokarhal ich a riekol: »To miesto zostane neznáme, pokým Boh opäť nezhromaždí ľud a nezmiluje sa (nad ním).
7 (KJV) Which when Jeremy perceived, he blamed them, saying, As for that place, it shall be unknown until the time that God gather his people again together, and receive them unto mercy.

8 (KAT) Až potom Pán ukáže tie veci a zjaví sa Pánova sláva, ba aj oblak, ako sa ukazoval za Mojžiša a ako prosil aj Šalamún, aby bolo miesto veľkolepo posvätené.«
8 (KJV) Then shall the Lord shew them these things, and the glory of the Lord shall appear, and the cloud also, as it was shewed under Moses, and as when Solomon desired that the place might be honourably sanctified.

9 (KAT) Rozprávalo sa tiež, ako onen múdry (kráľ) priniesol obetu pri svätení a dokonaní chrámu.
9 (KJV) It was also declared, that he being wise offered the sacrifice of dedication, and of the finishing of the temple.

10 (KAT) Ako sa Mojžiš modlil k Pánovi a spadol oheň z neba a strávil obetu, tak aj Šalamún sa modlil a spadol oheň a strávil celostné žertvy.
10 (KJV) And as when Moses prayed unto the Lord, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the sacrifices: even so prayed Solomon also, and the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offerings.

11 (KAT) Mojžiš povedal: »Pretože obetu za hriech nepožili, bola strávená ohňom.«
11 (KJV) And Moses said, Because the sin offering was not to be eaten, it was consumed.

12 (KAT) Podobne aj Šalamún slávil osem dní…
12 (KJV) So Solomon kept those eight days.

13 (KAT) To isté sa hovorilo aj v Nehemiášových spisoch a pamätiach. Aj to, ako založil knižnú (zbierku), do ktorej zhromaždil knihy o kráľoch a prorokoch i Dávidove spisy a kráľovské listiny o daroch pre svätyňu.
13 (KJV) The same things also were reported in the writings and commentaries of Neemias; and how he founding a library gathered together the acts of the kings, and the prophets, and of David, and the epistles of the kings concerning the holy gifts.

14 (KAT) Takisto aj Júda zhromaždil všetky knihy, čo boli roztratené pre vojnu, ktorá nás zastihla. Ale (teraz) ich máme.
14 (KJV) In like manner also Judas gathered together all those things that were lost by reason of the war we had, and they remain with us,

15 (KAT) Ak by ste niektoré potrebovali, pošlite si poslov po ne!
15 (KJV) Wherefore if ye have need thereof, send some to fetch them unto you.

16 (KAT) Napísali sme vám, lebo zamýšľame sláviť (pamiatku chrámovej) očisty. Bolo by pekné, keby ste aj vy oslávili tie dni.
16 (KJV) Whereas we then are about to celebrate the purification, we have written unto you, and ye shall do well, if ye keep the same days.

17 (KAT) Boh vyslobodil všetok svoj ľud a všetkým dal dedičstvo, kráľovstvo, kňazstvo a svätyňu,
17 (KJV) We hope also, that the God, that delivered all his people, and gave them all an heritage, and the kingdom, and the priesthood, and the sanctuary,

18 (KAT) ako sľúbil v Zákone, a preto skladáme nádej v Boha, že sa čoskoro zmiluje nad nami a zhromaždí nás zo všetkých krajín pod nebom na sväté miesto;
18 (KJV) As he promised in the law, will shortly have mercy upon us, and gather us together out of every land under heaven into the holy place: for he hath delivered us out of great troubles, and hath purified the place.

19 (KAT) veď nás vytrhol z veľkých nebezpečenstiev a očistil (sväté) miesto!“
19 (KJV) Now as concerning Judas Maccabeus, and his brethren, and the purification of the great temple, and the dedication of the altar,

20 (KAT) Príbehy za Júdu Machabejca a jeho bratov, (rozpravu) o očiste veľkého chrámu a o posvätení oltára,
20 (KJV) And the wars against Antiochus Epiphanes, and Eupator his son,

21 (KAT) ďalej o bojoch proti Antiochovi Epifanesovi a jeho synovi Eupatorovi,
21 (KJV) And the manifest signs that came from heaven unto those that behaved themselves manfully to their honour for Judaism: so that, being but a few, they overcame the whole country, and chased barbarous multitudes,

22 (KAT) o nebeských zjaveniach, ktorých sa dostalo tým, čo tak skvele a statočne bojovali za židovstvo, takže znovu zaujali celú krajinu, hoci ich bolo tak málo, a zahnali barbarské vojská,
22 (KJV) And recovered again the temple renowned all the world over, and freed the city, and upheld the laws which were going down, the Lord being gracious unto them with all favour:

23 (KAT) znovu získali po celom svete vychýrený chrám, oslobodili mesto a opäť zaviedli zákony, ktoré boli už skoro zrušené, lebo im bol Pán milostivý a veľmi láskavý,
23 (KJV) All these things, I say, being declared by Jason of Cyrene in five books, we will assay to abridge in one volume.

24 (KAT) vôbec všetko, o čom rozpráva Jason Cyrénsky v piatich knihách, pokúsime sa nakrátko zhrnúť do jednej knihy.
24 (KJV) For considering the infinite number, and the difficulty which they find that desire to look into the narrations of the story, for the variety of the matter,

25 (KAT) Keď sme uvážili záplavu čísel aj ťažkosť, ktorú zakusujú pre množstvo látky tí, čo sa chcú ponoriť do dejinných príbehov,
25 (KJV) We have been careful, that they that will read may have delight, and that they that are desirous to commit to memory might have ease, and that all into whose hands it comes might have profit.

26 (KAT) zaumienili sme si pripraviť vášnivým čitateľom príjemné pobavenie, tým zase, čo si chcú vec zapamätať, uľahčenie a vôbec všetkým čitateľom úžitok.
26 (KJV) Therefore to us, that have taken upon us this painful labour of abridging, it was not easy, but a matter of sweat and watching;

27 (KAT) Pravda, výťahová práca, na ktorú sme sa podujali, nie je ľahká, je to skôr námaha, ktorá vyžaduje mnoho potu a bdenia.
27 (KJV) Even as it is no ease unto him that prepareth a banquet, and seeketh the benefit of others: yet for the pleasuring of many we will undertake gladly this great pains;

28 (KAT) Ako ten, kto chystá hostinu a chce uspokojiť hosťov, nemá ľahkú prácu, tak sa aj my radi podoberáme na túto prácu, za ktorú nám budú mnohí vďační.
28 (KJV) Leaving to the author the exact handling of every particular, and labouring to follow the rules of an abridgement.

29 (KAT) Dôkladné skúmanie jednotlivých údajov ponechávame dejepiscovi; my sa však vynasnažíme podať vzorný výťah.
29 (KJV) For as the master builder of a new house must care for the whole building; but he that undertaketh to set it out, and paint it, must seek out fit things for the adorning thereof: even so I think it is with us.

30 (KAT) Kým staviteľ nového domu má starosť o celú stavbu, zatiaľ sa okrašľovač a maliar zaoberá iba vhodnou výzdobou; tak je to, ako sa zdá, aj s nami.
30 (KJV) To stand upon every point, and go over things at large, and to be curious in particulars, belongeth to the first author of the story:

31 (KAT) Ale bádať, urobiť si o všetkom úsudok a dôkladne vyšetriť každú okolnosť, to je úloha dejepisca.
31 (KJV) But to use brevity, and avoid much labouring of the work, is to be granted to him that will make an abridgment.

32 (KAT) Tomu, kto zhrňuje, sa však dovoľuje vyjadrovať sa stručne a vyhýbať sa rozvláčnemu pojednávaniu.
32 (KJV) Here then will we begin the story: only adding thus much to that which hath been said, that it is a foolish thing to make a long prologue, and to be short in the story itself.

33 (KAT) Teraz teda začneme rozprávať; veď úvodom sme už dosť uviedli! Bolo by ozaj nerozumné byť rozvláčny v predhovore rozpravy a v samom rozprávaní (byť) zasa stručný.
