1 (KAT) Po troch rokoch sa Júdovi prívrženci dozvedeli, že Demetrius, syn Seleukov, pristál v tripolskom prístave so silným vojskom a veľkým loďstvom,
1 (KJV) After three years was Judas informed, that Demetrius the son of Seleucus, having entered by the haven of Tripolis with a great power and navy,

2 (KAT) zmocnil sa krajiny a dal zabiť Antiocha a jeho poručníka Lyziáša.
2 (KJV) Had taken the country, and killed Antiochus, and Lysias his protector.

3 (KAT) Akýsi Alkimus, bývalý veľkňaz - ale v časoch nejednoty sa stal vierolomníkom -, po uvážení, že sa nijakým spôsobom nezachráni, ani už nebude mať prístup k svätému oltáru,
3 (KJV) Now one Alcimus, who had been high priest, and had defiled himself wilfully in the times of their mingling with the Gentiles, seeing that by no means he could save himself, nor have any more access to the holy altar,

4 (KAT) vybral sa v stopäťdesiatom prvom roku ku kráľovi Demetriovi a priniesol mu okrem obvyklých chrámových olivových ratolestí aj zlatú korunu a palmovú ratolesť. V ten deň bol ešte tichý.
4 (KJV) Came to king Demetrius in the hundred and one and fiftieth year, presenting unto him a crown of gold, and a palm, and also of the boughs which were used solemnly in the temple: and so that day he held his peace.

5 (KAT) Naskytla sa mu však vhodná príležitosť (uskutočniť svoj) hanebný zámer, keď ho Demetrius povolal do poradného zboru, kde sa ho opýtal, aká nálada a zmýšľanie panuje medzi Židmi.
5 (KJV) Howbeit having gotten opportunity to further his foolish enterprize, and being called into counsel by Demetrius, and asked how the Jews stood affected, and what they intended, he answered thereunto:

6 (KAT) Odpovedal: „Tí zo Židov, ktorí sa nazývajú Asidejci a ktorých vodcom je Júda Machabejec, rozduchujú vojnu a vyvolávajú vzbury a nedovoľujú, aby sa ríša dožila pokoja.
6 (KJV) Those of the Jews that he called Assideans, whose captain is Judas Maccabeus, nourish war and are seditious, and will not let the rest be in peace.

7 (KAT) Preto aj keď som bol olúpený o zdedenú dôstojnosť, to jest o veľkňazstvo, teraz som sem prišiel
7 (KJV) Therefore I, being deprived of mine ancestors' honour, I mean the high priesthood, am now come hither:

8 (KAT) predovšetkým z úprimnej starostlivosti o záujmy kráľa, ale tiež z ohľadu na svojich spoluobčanov. Veď títo ľudia nie málo ožobráčili celý náš národ svojím nerozumným počínaním!
8 (KJV) First, verily for the unfeigned care I have of things pertaining to the king; and secondly, even for that I intend the good of mine own countrymen: for all our nation is in no small misery through the unadvised dealing of them aforersaid.

9 (KAT) Ráč sa, kráľu, sám presvedčiť o všetkých tých veciach a ujať sa nášho ubiedeného národa podľa svojej láskavosti, ktorá každému vychádza v ústrety.
9 (KJV) Wherefore, O king, seeing knowest all these things, be careful for the country, and our nation, which is pressed on every side, according to the clemency that thou readily shewest unto all.

10 (KAT) Lebo dokiaľ je Júda nažive, pokoja v ríši nebude.“
10 (KJV) For as long as Judas liveth, it is not possible that the state should be quiet.

11 (KAT) Keď takto hovoril, aj ostatní jeho priatelia, ktorí boli nepriateľsky naladení proti Júdovi, rýchlo huckali Demetria.
11 (KJV) This was no sooner spoken of him, but others of the king's friends, being maliciously set against Judas, did more incense Demetrius.

12 (KAT) On hneď zavolal Nikanora, niekdajšieho veliteľa slonov, a ustanovil ho za miestodržiteľa Júdska. Vyslal ho
12 (KJV) And forthwith calling Nicanor, who had been master of the elephants, and making him governor over Judea, he sent him forth,

13 (KAT) s rozkazmi, aby Júdu odstránil, jeho prívržencov rozohnal a Alkima ustanovil za veľkňaza hlavného chrámu.
13 (KJV) Commanding him to slay Judas, and to scatter them that were with him, and to make Alcimus high priest of the great temple.

14 (KAT) Pohania, ktorí utiekli z Júdska pred Júdom, hromadne sa pridávali k Nikanorovi. Nazdávali sa, že nešťastie a pohromy Židov budú pre nich samých šťastím.
14 (KJV) Then the heathen, that had fled out of Judea from Judas, came to Nicanor by flocks, thinking the harm and calamities ot the Jews to be their welfare.

15 (KAT) Keď sa dopočuli, že Nikanor prichádza proti nim a že sa pridávajú k nemu pohania, posypali (si hlavy) zemou a prosili toho, ktorý zabezpečil večné trvanie svojmu ľudu a vždy sa zjavne zaujal svojho dedičného podielu.
15 (KJV) Now when the Jews heard of Nicanor's coming, and that the heathen were up against them, they cast earth upon their heads, and made supplication to him that had established his people for ever, and who always helpeth his portion with manifestation of his presence.

16 (KAT) Na rozkaz vojvodcu sa rýchlo odtiaľ vybrali a pri obci Desau sa zrazili s nepriateľmi.
16 (KJV) So at the commandment of the captain they removed straightways from thence, and came near unto them at the town of Dessau.

17 (KAT) Šimon, brat Júdov, zrazil sa s Nikanorom, ale trochu ho zarazilo, keď sa nepriateľ náhle vynoril.
17 (KJV) Now Simon, Judas' brother, had joined battle with Nicanor, but was somewhat discomfited through the sudden silence of his enemies.

18 (KAT) Nikanor sa však bál previesť rozhodnutie krviprelievaním, lebo sa dopočul o udatnosti, ktorou vynikali Júdovi spoločníci, a tiež o ich veľkodušnosti v bojoch za vlasť.
18 (KJV) Nevertheless Nicanor, hearing of the manliness of them that were with Judas, and the courageousness that they had to fight for their country, durst not try the matter by the sword.

19 (KAT) Preto poslal Posidonia, Teodota a Matatiáša, aby ponúkli a prijali podmienky mieru.
19 (KJV) Wherefore he sent Posidonius, and Theodotus, and Mattathias, to make peace.

20 (KAT) Vyjednávanie sa preťahovalo. Potom vojvodca oznámil stav veci svojmu vojsku a dohoda bola schválená jednohlasným rozhodnutím.
20 (KJV) So when they had taken long advisement thereupon, and the captain had made the multitude acquainted therewith, and it appeared that they were all of one mind, they consented to the covenants,

21 (KAT) Ustálili tiež deň, kedy sa mali stretnúť medzi štyrmi očami. Od každého vyšiel napred bojový voz a postavili kreslá.
21 (KJV) And appointed a day to meet in together by themselves: and when the day came, and stools were set for either of them,

22 (KAT) Ale Júda si rozostavil do pohotovosti ozbrojencov na vhodných miestach pre prípad, keby nepriatelia nečakane zákerne zaútočili. Rozhovor sa však dial nerušene.
22 (KJV) Ludas placed armed men ready in convenient places, lest some treachery should be suddenly practised by the enemies: so they made a peaceable conference.

23 (KAT) Potom sa Nikanor zdržoval v Jeruzaleme a neurobil nič, čo by bolo neprístojné; ba prepustil aj stádovité zástupy vojska, ktoré zhromaždil.
23 (KJV) Now Nicanor abode in Jerusalem, and did no hurt, but sent away the people that came flocking unto him.

24 (KAT) Júdu mal ustavične pri sebe a bol úprimne naklonený tomuto mužovi.
24 (KJV) And he would not willingly have Judas out of his sight: for he love the man from his heart

25 (KAT) Povzbudzoval ho, aby sa oženil a založil si rodinu. Oženil sa teda, bol šťastný a tešil sa životu.
25 (KJV) He prayed him also to take a wife, and to beget children: so he married, was quiet, and took part of this life.

26 (KAT) Keď Alkimus spozoroval ich vzájomnú dôvernosť, vzal odpis dojednaných zmlúv, prišiel s tým k Demetriovi a nahovoril mu, že Nikanor pomýšľa (spáchať) zradu, pretože ustanovil Júdu, úkladného nepriateľa ríše, za jeho nástupcu.
26 (KJV) But Alcimus, perceiving the love that was betwixt them, and considering the covenants that were made, came to Demetrius, and told him that Nicanor was not well affected toward the state; for that he had ordained Judas, a traitor to his realm, to be the king's successor.

27 (KAT) Tu sa kráľ rozhneval a podráždený ohováraniami toho vyvrheľa napísal Nikanorovi, že tie zmluvy neschvaľuje a že mu nariaďuje, aby Machabejca ihneď poslal v okovách do Antiochie.
27 (KJV) Then the king being in a rage, and provoked with the accusations of the most wicked man, wrote to Nicanor, signifying that he was much displeased with the covenants, and commanding him that he should send Maccabeus prisoner in all haste unto Antioch.

28 (KAT) Táto správa Nikanora veľmi vzrušila, lebo mu ťažko padlo, že má zrušiť ujednania, keď druhá stránka nepodnikla nič nespravodlivé.
28 (KJV) When this came to Nicanor's hearing, he was much confounded in himself, and took it grievously that he should make void the articles which were agreed upon, the man being in no fault.

29 (KAT) Kráľovi však odporovať nemohol, a preto čakal na vhodnú príležitosť, aby previedol rozkaz podvodne.
29 (KJV) But because there was no dealing against the king, he watched his time to accomplish this thing by policy.

30 (KAT) Keď Machabejec pozoroval, že Nikanor sa stáva voči nemu menej vľúdnym a pri ich obvyklom stretnutí sa stáva bezočivejším, porozumel, že táto nevľúdnosť neznamená nič dobré. Preto zobral značný počet svojich ľudí a skryl sa pred Nikanorom.
30 (KJV) Notwithstanding, when Maccabeus saw that Nicanor began to be churlish unto him, and that he entreated him more roughly than he was wont, perceiving that such sour behaviour came not of good, he gathered together not a few of his men, and withdrew himself from Nicanor.

31 (KAT) Keď ten spoznal, že ho poriadne previedol, odobral sa k presvätému chrámu, keď práve kňazi prinášali príslušné obety a žiadal ich, aby mu vydali toho muža.
31 (KJV) But the other, knowing that he was notably prevented by Judas' policy, came into the great and holy temple, and commanded the priests, that were offering their usual sacrifices, to deliver him the man.

32 (KAT) Oni však pod prísahou vyhlásili, že nevedia, kde je ten, ktorého hľadá. Nato vystrel pravicu proti chrámu
32 (KJV) And when they sware that they could not tell where the man was whom he sought,

33 (KAT) a zaprisahal sa takto: „Ak mi nevydáte Júdu zviazaného, tak zrovnám tento Boží dom so zemou, zbúram oltár a postavím tu nádherný chrám Dionýzovi!“
33 (KJV) He stretched out his right hand toward the temple, and made an oath in this manner: If ye will not deliver me Judas as a prisoner, I will lay this temple of God even with the ground, and I will break down the altar, and erect a notable temple unto Bacchus.

34 (KAT) Po týchto vyhrážkach odišiel. Kňazi však vystreli ruky k nebu, vzývali toho, ktorý vždy bojoval za náš národ, a hovorili takto:
34 (KJV) After these words he departed. Then the priests lifted up their hands toward heaven, and besought him that was ever a defender of their nation, saying in this manner;

35 (KAT) „Ty, Pane, si úplne nezávislý na bytostiach, a predsa si chcel mať chrám, v ktorom by si prebýval medzi nami.
35 (KJV) Thou, O Lord of all things, who hast need of nothing, wast pleased that the temple of thine habitation should be among us:

36 (KAT) Preto teraz, svätý Pane, pôvodca všetkej svätosti, zachovaj naveky nepoškvrnený tento príbytok, ktorý sme len nedávno mohli očistiť.“
36 (KJV) Therefore now, O holy Lord of all holiness, keep this house ever undefiled, which lately was cleansed, and stop every unrighteous mouth.

37 (KAT) Tu obžalovali u Nikanora akéhosi Razisa z jeruzalemských starších. Bol to muž veľmi dobrej povesti, ktorý miloval svojich spoluobčanov. Pre jeho láskavosť ho nazývali otcom Židov.
37 (KJV) Now was there accused unto Nicanor one Razis, one of the elders of Jerusalem, a lover of his countrymen, and a man of very good report, who for his kindness was called a father of the Jews.

38 (KAT) On už prv, za čias roztržky, bol obvinený za to, že sa rozhodne pridržiaval židovstva a za židovstvo bol hotový obetovať svoje telo i život.
38 (KJV) For in the former times, when they mingled not themselves with the Gentiles, he had been accused of Judaism, and did boldly jeopard his body and life with all vehemency for the religion of the Jews.

39 (KAT) Nikanor zrejme chcel dať najavo svoju nenávisť, ktorú prechovával voči Židom, preto poslal vyše päťsto vojakov, aby ho zatkli.
39 (KJV) So Nicanor, willing to declare the hate that he bare unto the Jews, sent above five hundred men of war to take him:

40 (KAT) Nazdával sa totiž, že keď ho zatkne, zasadí im ťažký úder.
40 (KJV) For he thought by taking him to do the Jews much hurt.

41 (KAT) Ale keď sa oddiely chystali zmocniť sa jeho príbytku, už aj vyrazili bránu do dvora a kázali priniesť oheň, aby mohli podpáliť drevo, vrhol sa, uzavretý zo všetkých strán, na meč.
41 (KJV) Now when the multitude would have taken the tower, and violently broken into the outer door, and bade that fire should be brought to burn it, he being ready to be taken on every side fell upon his sword;

42 (KAT) Chcel radšej čestne zomrieť, ako sa dostať do rúk zločincov a za svoje šľachetné zmýšľanie nechať sa nedôstojne potupovať.
42 (KJV) Choosing rather to die manfully, than to come into the hands of the wicked, to be abused otherwise than beseemed his noble birth:

43 (KAT) Lenže v rýchlosti a rozčúlenosti nezasiahol sa smrteľne. A zástupy sa už predierali dverami. Preto vybehol odvážne na múr a vrhol sa statočne na zástup vojakov.
43 (KJV) But missing his stroke through haste, the multitude also rushing within the doors, he ran boldly up to the wall, and cast himself down manfully among the thickest of them.

44 (KAT) Oni sa rýchle rozostúpili, takže vznikla medzera, a padol doprostred na prázdne miesto.
44 (KJV) But they quickly giving back, and a space being made, he fell down into the midst of the void place.

45 (KAT) Ale ešte bol pri živote, ba vo vášnivom rozčúlení aj vstal, hoci sa mu krv prúdom liala z bolestných rán. Behom sa predral cez zástupy
45 (KJV) Nevertheless, while there was yet breath within him, being inflamed with anger, he rose up; and though his blood gushed out like spouts of water, and his wounds were grievous, yet he ran through the midst of the throng; and standing upon a steep rock,

46 (KAT) a vystúpil na akúsi strmú skalu. Hoci skoro celkom vykrvácal, predsa ešte uchopil svoje vnútornosti a hodil ich oboma rukami na zástupy. Pritom vzýval Panovníka života i ducha, aby mu ich vrátil. Takto dokonal.
46 (KJV) When as his blood was now quite gone, he plucked out his bowels, and taking them in both his hands, he cast them upon the throng, and calling upon the Lord of life and spirit to restore him those again, he thus died.
