2. kniha Machabejcov

1 (KAT) Machabejec a jeho prívrženci zase zaujali s Pánovou pomocou chrám a mesto.
1 (KJV) Now Maccabeus and his company, the Lord guiding them, recovered the temple and the city:

2 (KAT) Rozváľali (pohanské) oltáre, ktoré postavili pohania na námestí, ako aj posvätné (pohanské) miesta.
2 (KJV) But the altars which the heathen had built in the open street, and also the chapels, they pulled down.

3 (KAT) Potom očistili chrám a postavili (v ňom) nový oltár. Z kameňov vykresali oheň, vzali z ohňa a po dvojročnej prestávke začali opäť prinášať obetu. Zažíhali zase kadidlo a svietniky a kládli predkladné chleby.
3 (KJV) And having cleansed the temple they made another altar, and striking stones they took fire out of them, and offered a sacrifice after two years, and set forth incense, and lights, and shewbread.

4 (KAT) Keď to vykonali, padli na zem a prosili Pána, aby už nedopustil na nich také nešťastie a aby ich trestal miernejšie, keby aj niekedy znovu hrešili, ale aby ich nevydával bohorúhavým a barbarským pohanom.
4 (KJV) When that was done, they fell flat down, and besought the Lord that they might come no more into such troubles; but if they sinned any more against him, that he himself would chasten them with mercy, and that they might not be delivered unto the blasphemous and barbarous nations.

5 (KAT) Práve ten istý deň, v ktorý kedysi pohania chrám poškvrnili, stalo sa aj očistenie chrámu, totiž dvadsiateho piateho dňa toho istého mesiaca, kisleva.
5 (KJV) Now upon the same day that the strangers profaned the temple, on the very same day it was cleansed again, even the five and twentieth day of the same month, which is Casleu.

6 (KAT) S radosťou konali osem dní oslavy, ako (robievali) na slávnosť Stánkov, rozpomínajúc sa na nedávnu slávnosť Stánkov, keď sa museli zdržovať na spôsob divých zverov po horách a v jaskyniach.
6 (KJV) And they kept the eight days with gladness, as in the feast of the tabernacles, remembering that not long afore they had held the feast of the tabernacles, when as they wandered in the mountains and dens like beasts.

7 (KAT) Preto nosili brečtanom ovenčené palice, zelené ratolesti a palmy a prespevovali chválospevy na počesť toho, ktorý im doprial šťastne očistiť svoj chrám.
7 (KJV) Therefore they bare branches, and fair boughs, and palms also, and sang psalms unto him that had given them good success in cleansing his place.

8 (KAT) Všeobecným rozkazom a rozhodnutím ustanovili pre celý židovský národ (za povinnosť), aby každoročne slávili tieto dni.
8 (KJV) They ordained also by a common statute and decree, That every year those days should be kept of the whole nation of the Jews.

9 (KAT) Takýto bol teda koniec Antiocha, ktorý sa nazýval Epifanes.
9 (KJV) And this was the end of Antiochus, called Epiphanes.

10 (KAT) Teraz poukážeme na udalosti, ktoré sa odohrali za Antiocha Eupatora, syna onoho bezbožníka. Pri vojnových útrapách sa obmedzíme len na najpotrebnejšie.
10 (KJV) Now will we declare the acts of Antiochus Eupator, who was the son of this wicked man, gathering briefly the calamities of the wars.

11 (KAT) Keď prevzal vládu do svojich rúk, vymenoval za ríšskeho správcu istého Lyziáša, hlavného veliteľa Celosýrie a Fenície.
11 (KJV) So when he was come to the crown, he set one Lysias over the affairs of his realm, and appointed him his chief governor of Celosyria and Phenice.

12 (KAT) Ptolemeus totiž, zvaný Makron, bol prvý, ktorý sa usiloval zaobchádzať so Židmi spravodlivo - najmä pre bezprávie, ktoré sa proti nim stalo - a mienil urovnať ich záležitosti pokojnou cestou.
12 (KJV) For Ptolemeus, that was called Macron, choosing rather to do justice unto the Jews for the wrong that had been done unto them, endeavoured to continue peace with them.

13 (KAT) Jeho dôverníci ho preto obžalovali u Eupatora; ba všeobecne sa o ňom rozchyrovalo, že je zradcom, pretože opustil Filometora, ktorý mu zveril Cyprus, a prešiel k Antiochovi Epifanesovi. V krajnej skľúčenosti, keď už nemal možnosť čestne zastávať svoj úrad, požil jed a urobil koniec svojmu životu.
13 (KJV) Whereupon being accused of the king's friends before Eupator, and called traitor at every word because he had left Cyprus, that Philometor had committed unto him, and departed to Antiochus Epiphanes, and seeing that he was in no honourable place, he was so discouraged, that he poisoned himself and died.

14 (KAT) Gorgiáš, vtedajší veliteľ oných krajín, najal si cudzích žoldnierov a všade podnecoval do boja proti Židom.
14 (KJV) But when Gorgias was governor of the holds, he hired soldiers, and nourished war continually with the Jews:

15 (KAT) Súčasne znepokojovali Židov aj Edomčania, ktorí držali (vo svojej moci) výhodne položené pevnosti. Prijímali zbehov z Jeruzalema a svojimi prepadmi podnikali boje.
15 (KJV) And therewithall the Idumeans, having gotten into their hands the most commodious holds, kept the Jews occupied, and receiving those that were banished from Jerusalem, they went about to nourish war.

16 (KAT) Machabejcovi prívrženci však vzývali v modlitbe a prosili Boha, aby im bol spojencom. Potom zaútočili na pevnosti Edomčanov.
16 (KJV) Then they that were with Maccabeus made supplication, and besought God that he would be their helper; and so they ran with violence upon the strong holds of the Idumeans,

17 (KAT) Rozhodným útokom sa zmocnili tých miest, všetkých, čo boli na hradbách, zahnali a na koho narazili, toho zabili. Pobili z nich nie menej ako dvadsaťtisíc mužov.
17 (KJV) And assaulting them strongly, they won the holds, and kept off all that fought upon the wall, and slew all that fell into their hands, and killed no fewer than twenty thousand.

18 (KAT) Utieklo však nie menej ako deväťtisíc mužov na dve veľmi dobre opevnené veže, ktoré boli vybavené všetkým, čo je za obliehania potrebné.
18 (KJV) And because certain, who were no less than nine thousand, were fled together into two very strong castles, having all manner of things convenient to sustain the siege,

19 (KAT) Na obliehanie týchto miest zanechal Machabejec Šimona, Jozefa a Zacheja a dostatočný počet vojska; sám sa však odobral tam, kde bol pre boj potrebnejší.
19 (KJV) Maccabeus left Simon and Joseph, and Zaccheus also, and them that were with him, who were enough to besiege them, and departed himself unto those places which more needed his help.

20 (KAT) Lenže Šimonovi bojovníci sa ulakomili na peniaze a dali sa podplatiť od ľudí na vežiach. Dostali sedemdesiattisíc drachiem a za to dovolili niektorým utiecť.
20 (KJV) Now they that were with Simon, being led with covetousness, were persuaded for money through certain of those that were in the castle, and took seventy thousand drachms, and let some of them escape.

21 (KAT) Keď sa Machabejec dozvedel o tomto prípade, zvolal veliteľov a vyčítal im, ako mohli zapredať za peniaze svojich bratov a na svoju hanbu nechať utiecť nepriateľov.
21 (KJV) But when it was told Maccabeus what was done, he called the governors of the people together, and accused those men, that they had sold their brethren for money, and set their enemies free to fight against them.

22 (KAT) Dal ich ako zradcov zabiť a potom rýchle dobyl tie dve veže.
22 (KJV) So he slew those that were found traitors, and immediately took the two castles.

23 (KAT) Keďže mal šťastie vždy, kedykoľvek sa chopil zbrane, pobil aj na tých dvoch pevnostiach vyše dvadsaťtisíc.
23 (KJV) And having good success with his weapons in all things he took in hand, he slew in the two holds more than twenty thousand.

24 (KAT) Timotej však - ten, ktorého predtým Židia porazili - zobral početné cudzinecké oddiely a zhromaždil aj veľké množstvo ázijskej jazdy. I pritiahol, aby zbraňou dobyl Júdsko.
24 (KJV) Now Timotheus, whom the Jews had overcome before, when he had gathered a great multitude of foreign forces, and horses out of Asia not a few, came as though he would take Jewry by force of arms.

25 (KAT) Keď sa približoval, Machabejec a jeho ľudia sa obrátili na Boha s prosbou o pomoc. Hlavy si posypali zemou a bedrá opásali kajúcimi rúchami.
25 (KJV) But when he drew near, they that were with Maccabeus turned themselves to pray unto God, and sprinkled earth upon their heads, and girded their loins with sackcloth,

26 (KAT) Pri podstavci oltára padli na kolená a modlili sa, aby sa nad nimi zmiloval a aby bol nepriateľom ich nepriateľov a protivníkom ich protivníkov, ako hovorí zákon.
26 (KJV) And fell down at the foot of the altar, and besought him to be merciful to them, and to be an enemy to their enemies, and an adversary to their adversaries, as the law declareth.

27 (KAT) Keď vstali od modlitby, vzali zbrane, vytiahli ďaleko od mesta a zastavili sa až vtedy, keď sa dostali do blízkosti nepriateľov.
27 (KJV) So after the prayer they took their weapons, and went on further from the city: and when they drew near to their enemies, they kept by themselves.

28 (KAT) Práve pri východe slnka zaútočili obe strany. Jedni mali záruku svojho šťastia a víťazstva v dôvere v Boha a vo svojej statočnosti - druhí sa zas nechali v bojoch viesť len svojou vášňou.
28 (KJV) Now the sun being newly risen, they joined both together; the one part having together with their virtue their refuge also unto the Lord for a pledge of their success and victory: the other side making their rage leader of their battle

29 (KAT) Keď sa boj stával ozaj prudkým, ukázalo sa nepriateľom z neba päť skvelých mužov na koňoch so zlatými uzdami, ktorí sa postavili na čelo Židov.
29 (KJV) But when the battle waxed strong, there appeared unto the enemies from heaven five comely men upon horses, with bridles of gold, and two of them led the Jews,

30 (KAT) Dvaja vzali Machabejca medzi seba, kryli ho svojou výzbrojou a chránili pred zranením. Ale na nepriateľov hádzali strely a blesky. Tak boli tým omráčení a oslepení, že padali v najväčšom zmätku.
30 (KJV) And took Maccabeus betwixt them, and covered him on every side weapons, and kept him safe, but shot arrows and lightnings against the enemies: so that being confounded with blindness, and full of trouble, they were killed.

31 (KAT) Zabitých bolo dvadsaťtisícpäťsto mužov a šesťsto jazdcov.
31 (KJV) And there were slain of footmen twenty thousand and five hundred, and six hundred horsemen.

32 (KAT) Timotej sám utiekol do veľmi silnej pevnosti, zvanej Gazara, ktorej veliteľom bol Chereas.
32 (KJV) As for Timotheus himself, he fled into a very strong hold, called Gawra, where Chereas was governor.

33 (KAT) Machabejec a jeho ľudia s nadšením obliehali pevnosť štyri dni.
33 (KJV) But they that were with Maccabeus laid siege against the fortress courageously four days.

34 (KAT) Obľahnutí dôverovali v pevnosť miesta, nadmieru sa rúhali a vyvolávali potupné reči.
34 (KJV) And they that were within, trusting to the strength of the place, blasphemed exceedingly, and uttered wicked words.

35 (KAT) Keď zasvitol piaty deň, dvadsiati mladíci z Machabejcových ľudí, rozpálení hnevom pre rúhania, mužne vyrazili na múr a v divokej rozhorčenosti zrazili každého, kto im prišiel do cesty.
35 (KJV) Nevertheless upon the fifth day early twenty young men of Maccabeus' company, inflamed with anger because of the blasphemies, assaulted the wall manly, and with a fierce courage killed all that they met withal.

36 (KAT) Takisto vyrazili aj iní proti obľahnutým z iných miest obkľučovacieho postavenia a podpálili veže; potom zapálili hranicu dreva a tých rúhačov zaživa spálili. Iní zas roztĺkli brány, ktorými vpustili ostatné vojsko dnu, a tak zaujali mesto.
36 (KJV) Others likewise ascending after them, whiles they were busied with them that were within, burnt the towers, and kindling fires burnt the blasphemers alive; and others broke open the gates, and, having received in the rest of the army, took the city,

37 (KAT) Timoteja, ktorý sa skryl v akejsi cisterne, zabili; podobne aj jeho brata Chereasa a Apolofanesa.
37 (KJV) And killed Timotheus, that was hid in a certain pit, and Chereas his brother, with Apollophanes.

38 (KAT) Po týchto činoch chválospevmi a ďakovnými piesňami dobrorečili Pánovi, ktorý preukázal Izraelovi také veľké dobrodenia a doprial im víťazstvo.
38 (KJV) When this was done, they praised the Lord with psalms and thanksgiving, who had done so great things for Israel, and given them the victory.
