Kniha Sirachovcova

1 (KJV) Great travail is created for every man, and an heavy yoke is upon the sons of Adam, from the day that they go out of their mother's womb, till the day that they return to the mother of all things.
1 (KAT) Každému človekovi je určená veľká úloha, pretože preťažké jarmo spočíva na Adamových synoch, a to odo dňa, keď zo života matky prídu (na svet), až do dňa pohrebu, keď sa vrátia k matke nás všetkých.

2 (KJV) Their imagination of things to come, and the day of death, [trouble] their thoughts, and [cause] fear of heart;
2 (KAT) Všetkých trápi premýšľanie a obavy srdca, starosti o budúcnosť a o deň zakončenia (života),

3 (KJV) From him that sitteth on a throne of glory, unto him that is humbled in earth and ashes;
3 (KAT) (od toho počnúc), kto sedí na slávnom prestole, až po toho, kto je uponížený v zemi a popole;

4 (KJV) From him that weareth purple and a crown, unto him that is clothed with a linen frock.
4 (KAT) (počnúc od toho), kto nosí purpurový oblek a na hlave veniec, až po toho, kto sa iba drsným plátnom odieva; (všetkých stíha): hnev, závisť, zmätok a neistota, strach pred smrťou, ustavičné zvady a hašterenia.

5 (KJV) Wrath, and envy, trouble, and unquietness, fear of death, and anger, and strife, and in the time of rest upon his bed his night sleep, do change his knowledge.
5 (KAT) A keď si má oddýchnuť na lôžku, nočný sen mu mení všetku myseľ.

6 (KJV) A little or nothing is his rest, and afterward he is in his sleep, as in a day of keeping watch, troubled in the vision of his heart, as if he were escaped out of a battle.
6 (KAT) Málo alebo nijakého odpočinku nemá, akoby aj vo sne strážiť mal, ako to za dňa (robieva).

7 (KJV) When all is safe, he awaketh, and marvelleth that the fear was nothing.
7 (KAT) Poľakaný je videním svojho srdca, je mu tak, ako keby vyviazol v deň vojny. Prebúdza sa vo chvíli svojej záchrany a čuduje sa, že sa nemá čoho obávať.

8 (KJV) [Such things happen] unto all flesh, both man and beast, and that is sevenfold more upon sinners.
8 (KAT) (To je osud) každého tvora - od človeka až po dobytok - a hriešnika až sedemnásobný:

9 (KJV) Death, and bloodshed, strife, and sword, calamities, famine, tribulation, and the scourge;
9 (KAT) okrem toho je stanovená smrť, vyliatie krvi, nesvornosť, meč, útlaky, hlad, skaza a pohromy.

10 (KJV) These things are created for the wicked, and for their sakes came the flood.
10 (KAT) Proti hriešnikom sú stanovené všetky tieto veci, veď pre nich prišla (kedysi) aj potopa.

11 (KJV) All things that are of the earth shall turn to the earth again: and that which is of the waters doth return into the sea.
11 (KAT) Všetko, čo je zo zeme, do zeme sa navráti, ako sa vracajú všetky vody do mora.

12 (KJV) All bribery and injustice shall be blotted out: but true dealing shall endure for ever.
12 (KAT) Každý úplatok a nespravodlivý (dar) zahynie, len poctivosť pretrvá naveky.

13 (KJV) The goods of the unjust shall be dried up like a river, and shall vanish with noise, like a great thunder in rain.
13 (KAT) Majetky nespravodlivých vyschnú ako rieky a odznejú ako mohutný rachot hromu za dažďa.

14 (KJV) While he openeth his hand he shall rejoice: so shall transgressors come to nought.
14 (KAT) Raduje sa, kým vládze otvárať ruku, ale hriešnici nakoniec zmiznú úplne.

15 (KJV) The children of the ungodly shall not bring forth many branches: but are as unclean roots upon a hard rock.
15 (KAT) Potomstvo bezbožníkov nenasadí veľa výhonkov, nečisté korene chraštia na strmých skalinách.

16 (KJV) The weed growing upon every water and bank of a river shall be pulled up before all grass.
16 (KAT) Ako sítie, čo rastie pri každej vode na brehoch riek, býva prv ako ostatné seno skášané.

17 (KJV) Bountifulness is as a most fruitful garden, and mercifulness endureth for ever.
17 (KAT) Dobročinnosť je akoby požehnaný raj, lebo (zásluha) milosrdenstva pretrvá naveky.

18 (KJV) To labour, and to be content with that a man hath, is a sweet life: but he that findeth a treasure is above them both.
18 (KAT) Sladký je život pracovitého a pritom spokojného človeka, nájdeš poklad aj v takom (živote).

19 (KJV) Children and the building of a city continue a man's name: but a blameless wife is counted above them both.
19 (KAT) Deti a stavba mesta zachovajú meno človeka, ale nad to viac treba hodnotiť bezúhonnú ženu.

20 (KJV) Wine and musick rejoice the heart: but the love of wisdom is above them both.
20 (KAT) Hudba a víno rozveseľuje srdce, ale nad obidvoje viac treba ceniť lásku k múdrosti.

21 (KJV) The pipe and the psaltery make sweet melody: but a pleasant tongue is above them both.
21 (KAT) Píšťaly a lutny prinášajú sladkosť do piesne, ale prívetivý hlas má vyššiu hodnotu ako obidvoje.

22 (KJV) Thine eye desireth favour and beauty: but more than both corn while it is green.
22 (KAT) Tvoje oko túži za pôvabom a krásou, ale zeleň siatin je nad oboje.

23 (KJV) A friend and companion never meet amiss: but above both is a wife with her husband.
23 (KAT) Priateľ a druh sa z času na čas zídu, však viac ako oni znamenajú muž a žena.

24 (KJV) Brethren and help are against time of trouble: but alms shall deliver more than them both.
24 (KAT) Bratia si poskytnú pomoc v čase súženia, ale viac vyslobodenia ako oni prináša milosrdenstvo (iných).

25 (KJV) Gold and silver make the foot stand sure: but counsel is esteemed above them both.
25 (KAT) Zlato a striebro dáva nohám pevne stáť: ale dobrá rada je nad to obidvoje.

26 (KJV) Riches and strength lift up the heart: but the fear of the Lord is above them both: there is no want in the fear of the Lord, and it needeth not to seek help.
26 (KAT) Statky a moc (nad inými) pozdvihujú srdce, ale nad to cennejšia je bázeň pred Bohom.

27 (KJV) The fear of the Lord is a fruitful garden, and covereth him above all glory.
27 (KAT) Ak niekto má bázeň pred (Bohom), nebude mať nedostatok, pri jej (ochrane) netreba hľadať inú pomoc.

28 (KJV) My son, lead not a beggar's life; for better it is to die than to beg.
28 (KAT) Bázeň pred Pánom je ako požehnaný raj, pokrytá je slávou nad všetku inú (slávu).

29 (KJV) The life of him that dependeth on another man's table is not to be counted for a life; for he polluteth himself with other men's meat: but a wise man well nurtured will beware thereof.
29 (KAT) Synu, pokiaľ žiješ, chráň sa nedostatku, lebo lepšie ti je umrieť, ako v nedostatku žiť.

30 (KJV) Begging is sweet in the mouth of the shameless: but in his belly there shall burn a fire.
30 (KAT) Ak niekto musí hľadieť na cudzí stôl jeho život nemožno pokladať za život: Veď svoj život udržuje iba cudzím pokrmom.

31 ----
31 (KAT) Rozumný a dobre vychovaný muž sa (toho) uchráni.

32 ----
32 (KAT) V ústach nemúdreho sa nájde sladká výhovorka pre biedu, ale v jeho bruchu horí oheň.
