Kniha Sirachovcova

1 (KJV) He that loveth his son causeth him oft to feel the rod, that he may have joy of him in the end.
1 (KAT) Kto si miluje syna, často používa (aj) tresty, aby sa nakoniec radoval a nemusel ohmatávať brány blížnych.

2 (KJV) He that chastiseth his son shall have joy in him, and shall rejoice of him among his acquaintance.
2 (KAT) Kto si vyučuje syna, dožije sa na ňom chvály a môže sa ním honosiť v kruhu svojich domácich.

3 (KJV) He that teacheth his son grieveth the enemy: and before his friends he shall rejoice of him.
3 (KAT) Kto si vyučuje syna, do žiarlivosti uvádza nepriateľa, ale v kruhu priateľov sa ním môže chváliť.

4 (KJV) Though his father die, yet he is as though he were not dead: for he hath left one behind him that is like himself.
4 (KAT) Ak mu aj umrie otec, akoby nebol mŕtvy: lebo podobného (syna) zanecháva po sebe.

5 (KJV) While he lived, he saw and rejoiced in him: and when he died, he was not sorrowful.
5 (KAT) Keď ho vidí za života, raduje sa z neho, pri svojom skone sa nezarmucuje, ani pred nepriateľmi sa nemá čo hanbiť pre neho.

6 (KJV) He left behind him an avenger against his enemies, and one that shall requite kindness to his friends.
6 (KAT) Lebo svojmu rodu zanecháva obrancu proti nepriateľom a priateľom vďačného odplatiteľa.

7 (KJV) He that maketh too much of his son shall bind up his wounds; and his bowels will be troubled at every cry.
7 (KAT) Za maznanie synov bude si viazať rany a pri každom slove sa mu znepokojí srdce.

8 (KJV) An horse not broken becometh headstrong: and a child left to himself will be wilful.
8 (KAT) Nekrotený kôň je nepoddajný, voľkaný syn bude bez rozvahy, náhly.

9 (KJV) Cocker thy child, and he shall make thee afraid: play with him, and he will bring thee to heaviness.
9 (KAT) Maznaj sa so synom a naženie ti strachu, pohrávaj sa s ním a zarmúti ťa.

10 (KJV) Laugh not with him, lest thou have sorrow with him, and lest thou gnash thy teeth in the end.
10 (KAT) Nesmej sa mu, by si to neľutoval, aby ti nakoniec nestŕpli aj zuby.

11 (KJV) Give him no liberty in his youth, and wink not at his follies.
11 (KAT) Nepovoľuj mu mnoho za mladi a nenechaj jeho myseľ bez povšimnutia!

12 (KJV) Bow down his neck while he is young, and beat him on the sides while he is a child, lest he wax stubborn, and be disobedient unto thee, and so bring sorrow to thine heart.
12 (KAT) Ohýbaj ho ešte v mladosti, trestaj, kde neškodí, kým je mladý, aby nezostal tvrdohlavý a nevzoprel sa ti, mal by si žalosť na duši.

13 (KJV) Chastise thy son, and hold him to labour, lest his lewd behaviour be an offence unto thee.
13 (KAT) Vyučuj si syna a zapracúvaj ho, aby si nenarazil na jeho neslušnosť.

14 (KJV) Better is the poor, being sound and strong of constitution, than a rich man that is afflicted in his body.
14 (KAT) Lepšie je na tom chudobný, ak je zdravý a mocný v sile, ako nevládny a neduhom bičovaný boháč.

15 (KJV) Health and good estate of body are above all gold, and a strong body above infinite wealth.
15 (KAT) Nad všetko zlato a striebro drahšia je zdravá myseľ posvätená pravdou a zdravé telo je viac ako nezmerné bohatstvo.

16 (KJV) There is no riches above a sound body, and no joy above the joy of the heart.
16 (KAT) Niet bohatstva nad bohatstvo zdravého tela; a niet väčšej blaženosti nad radosť srdca.

17 (KJV) Death is better than a bitter life or continual sickness.
17 (KAT) Lepšia je smrť ako trpký život a večné spočinutie je lepšie ako ustavičná choroba.

18 (KJV) Delicates poured upon a mouth shut up are as messes of meat set upon a grave.
18 (KAT) Maškrty, ktoré nemôžu požiť uzavreté ústa, podobné sú hodovným pokrmom, ktorými obložia hrob.

19 (KJV) What good doeth the offering unto an idol? for neither can it eat nor smell: so is he that is persecuted of the Lord.
19 (KAT) Aký pôžitok má z obetovaného (jedla) modla? Nemôže ani jesť, ani ovoňať:

20 (KJV) He seeth with his eyes and groaneth, as an eunuch that embraceth a virgin and sigheth.
20 (KAT) taký je aj ten, koho Pán odoženie od seba a dá mu znášať odplatu za neprávosti.

21 (KJV) Give not over thy mind to heaviness, and afflict not thyself in thine own counsel.
21 (KAT) Očami hľadí (na svoje bohatstvo) a stone pri tom, ako keď eunuch so vzdychom objíma pannu.

22 (KJV) The gladness of the heart is the life of man, and the joyfulness of a man prolongeth his days.
22 (KAT) Zármutok si nepripusť na myseľ, ani sa nesužuj svojimi nápadmi!

23 (KJV) Love thine own soul, and comfort thy heart, remove sorrow far from thee: for sorrow hath killed many, and there is no profit therein.
23 (KAT) Veselosť srdca - to je život pre človeka, a svätosť je nevyčerpateľný poklad: jasavá radosť dodáva mužovi na veku.

24 (KJV) Envy and wrath shorten the life, and carefulness bringeth age before the time.
24 (KAT) Zľutuj sa nad svojou dušou, ľúbiac sa trvale Bohu, maj sústredenú myseľ pre svätosť a ďaleko zaháňaj od seba (všetok) zármutok!

25 (KJV) A cheerful and good heart will have a care of his meat and diet.
25 (KAT) Lebo zármutok zničil už mnohých, a nikto nemá z toho osoh.

26 (KAT) Závisť a hnevlivosť skracujú život a (mnohé) premýšľanie privádza predčasne starobu.

27 ----
27 (KAT) Jasná a dobrá myseľ sa ukáže pri hodovaní, lebo hodovanie je časté u neho.
