Kniha Sirachovcova

1 (KJV) A labouring man that A is given to drunkenness shall not be rich: and he that contemneth small things shall fall by little and little.
1 (KAT) Kto robí a opíja sa, nezbohatne: kto si neváži málo, pomaly upadne.

2 (KJV) Wine and women will make men of understanding to fall away: and he that cleaveth to harlots will become impudent.
2 (KAT) Víno a ženy vedú k úpadku aj múdrych, trest uvádzajú aj na rozvážnych.

3 (KJV) Moths and worms shall have him to heritage, and a bold man shall be taken away.
3 (KAT) Kto sa viaže k smilniciam, bude sám ničomník: jeho dedičmi budú hniloba a červy. Postavia ho za výstražný príklad, lebo jeho duša vyhynie z počtu (živých).

4 (KJV) He that is hasty to give credit is lightminded; and he that sinneth shall offend against his own soul.
4 (KAT) Kto prenáhlene dôveruje, je ľahkoverný a príde do škody: a kto tak škodí sebe, za nič ho budú mať.

5 (KJV) Whoso taketh pleasure in wickedness shall be condemned: but he that resisteth pleasures crowneth his life.
5 (KAT) Kto sa raduje z neprávosti, dostane sa mu potupy, kto nenávidí pokarhanie, ukracuje si život: ale kto nenávidí táravosť, udúša zlo.

6 (KJV) He that can rule his tongue shall live without strife; and he that hateth babbling shall have less evil.
6 (KAT) Kto sa prehrešuje proti sebe, bude to ľutovať, kto má záľubu v zlosti, dostane sa mu potupy.

7 (KJV) Rehearse not unto another that which is told unto thee, and thou shalt fare never the worse.
7 (KAT) Neopakuj ničomné a tvrdé slovo, tak ani teba neuponížia.

8 (KJV) Whether it be to friend or foe, talk not of other men's lives; and if thou canst without offence, reveal them not.
8 (KAT) O priateľovi a nepriateľovi nehovor, čo si myslíš: ak niečo pokladáš za hriešne, neodkrývaj to!

9 (KJV) For he heard and observed thee, and when time cometh he will hate thee.
9 (KAT) Lebo ťa vypočuje, ale bude sa ťa strániť a takmer brániť bude hriech a teba nenávidieť, a tak sa bude vždy k tebe približovať.

10 (KJV) If thou hast heard a word, let it die with thee; and be bold, it will not burst thee.
10 (KAT) Ak si počul neprajné slovo proti blížnemu, nech umrie v tebe! Ver mi, neroztrhne ťa.

11 (KJV) A fool travaileth with a word, as a woman in labour of a child.
11 (KAT) Pochabý dostane aj od slova bolesti, ako postenáva (rodička) pri pôrode dieťaťa.

12 (KJV) As an arrow that sticketh in a man's thigh, so is a word within a fool's belly.
12 (KAT) Ako šíp zapichnutý do mäsitého stehna je slovo v srdci pochabého.

13 (KJV) Admonish a friend, it may be he hath not done it: and if he have done it, that he do it no more.
13 (KAT) Napomeň priateľa - azda o ničom nevie a povie ti: „Neurobil som to!“ Ak však urobil, (dosiahneš), aby to znovu nerobil.

14 (KJV) Admonish thy friend, it may be he hath not said it: and if he have, that he speak it not again.
14 (KAT) Napomeň blížneho - azda to ani nepovedal: ak však povedal, aby to neopakoval.

15 (KJV) Admonish a friend: for many times it is a slander, and believe not every tale.
15 (KAT) Napomeň priateľa: často sa vyskytne aj ohovárka.

16 (KJV) There is one that slippeth in his speech, but not from his heart; and who is he that hath not offended with his tongue?
16 (KAT) Preto never každému slovu! Mnohí sa previnia jazykom, ale nie úmyselne.

17 (KJV) Admonish thy neighbour before thou threaten him; and not being angry, give place to the law of the most High.
17 (KAT) Ktože sa ešte neprevinil jazykom?! Napomeň blížneho prv, ako by si sa mu vyhrážal.

18 (KJV) The fear of the Lord is the first step to be accepted [of him,] and wisdom obtaineth his love.
18 (KAT) Dovoľ, aby sa uplatnil zákon Najvyššieho, lebo všetka múdrosť je bázeň pred Bohom a bázeň pred Bohom je v nej a pri všetkej múdrosti je: zachovávať Zákon.

19 (KJV) The knowledge of the commandments of the Lord is the doctrine of life: and they that do things that please him shall receive the fruit of the tree of immortality.
19 (KAT) Nie je múdrosťou správať sa ničomne: ako nie je rozumnosťou zmýšľať hriešne.

20 (KJV) The fear of the Lord is all wisdom; and in all wisdom is the performance of the law, and the knowledge of his omnipotency.
20 (KAT) To je ničomnosť a je ohavná; nemúdry je ten, komu sa dostalo málo múdrosti.

21 (KJV) If a servant say to his master, I will not do as it pleaseth thee; though afterward he do it, he angereth him that nourisheth him.
21 (KAT) Lepší je menej múdry, komu chybuje vtip, ale nie bázeň, ako ten, kto vtipom oplýva, ale narušuje zákon Najvyššieho.

22 (KJV) The knowledge of wickedness is not wisdom, neither at any time the counsel of sinners prudence.
22 (KAT) Zdatnosť môže byť aj dôkladná, a predsa hriešna.

23 (KJV) There is a wickedness, and the same an abomination; and there is a fool wanting in wisdom.
23 (KAT) Je aj taký, ktorý hovorí dôležité reči a rozpovie, čo je pravda, ale je zas iný, ktorý sa nemiestne uponižuje, pritom má útroby plné podvodu.

24 (KJV) He that hath small understanding, and feareth God, is better than one that hath much wisdom, and transgresseth the law of the most High.
24 (KAT) Iný sa príliš ukláňa v mnohej poníženosti: no niekto skláňa iba tvár a pretvára sa, že nevidel, o čom sa nevie;

25 (KJV) There is an exquisite subtilty, and the same is unjust; and there is one that turneth aside to make judgment appear; and there is a wise man that justifieth in judgment.
25 (KAT) a keď mu nedostatok sily nedovoľuje robiť zlé, predsa páše zlo, keď nadíde čas, že môže robiť zle.

26 (KJV) There is a wicked man that hangeth down his head sadly; but inwardly he is full of deceit,
26 (KAT) Podľa vzhľadu možno poznať človeka, z výrazu tváre poznáš rozvážneho.

27 (KJV) Casting down his countenance, and making as if he heard not: where he is not known, he will do thee a mischief before thou be aware.
27 (KAT) Oblek na tele a úsmev na perách a chôdza - ukazujú o každom, aký je.

28 (KJV) And if for want of power he be hindered from sinning, yet when he findeth opportunity he will do evil.
28 (KAT) Pomýlené je napomenutie od toho, kto potupuje v hneve: je aj také posúdenie, ktoré nemožno uznať za dobré: ale kto vie mlčať, stáva sa múdrym.

29 (KJV) A man may be known by his look, and one that hath understanding by his countenance, when thou meetest him.

30 (KJV) A man's attire, and excessive laughter, and gait, shew what he is.
