1 (KAT) Galaádčan Jefte bol udatný hrdina. Bol synom neviestky. Jefteho otcom bol Galaád.
1 (VUL) Fuit Iephte Galaadites vir fortissimus, filius meretricis mulieris, quem genuit Galaad.
1 (UKJV) Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead brings forth Jephthah.

2 (KAT) Galaád mal manželku, ktorá mu porodila synov. Keď synovia tejto manželky dorástli, vyhnali Jefteho a vraveli mu: „Ty nemôžeš byť dedičom v dome nášho otca, lebo si synom cudzej ženy.“
2 (VUL) Habuit autem Galaad uxorem, de qua suscepit filios, qui, postquam creverant, eiecerunt Iephte dicentes: “ Heres in domo patris nostri esse non poteris, quia de altera matre generatus es ”.
2 (UKJV) "And Gilead's wife bare him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said unto him, You shall not inherit in our father's house; for you are the son of a strange woman. "

3 (KAT) Jefte ušiel pred svojimi bratmi a zdržoval sa v krajine Tob. Tu sa pridružili k Jeftemu nemajetní mužovia a vychádzali s ním na zboj.
3 (VUL) Quos ille fugiens atque devitans habitavit in terra Tob; congregatique sunt ad eum viri inopes et exierunt cum eo.
3 (UKJV) Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and went out with him.

4 (KAT) Po nejakom čase sa dostali Amončania do boja s Izraelitmi.
4 (VUL) In illis diebus pugnabant filii Ammon contra Israel.
4 (UKJV) And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.

5 (KAT) Keď teda Amončania viedli vojnu s Izraelitmi, vybrali sa starší z Galaádu, aby si priviedli Jefteho z krajiny Tob.
5 (VUL) Quibus acriter instantibus, perrexerunt maiores natu de Galaad, ut tollerent in auxilium sui Iephte de terra Tob.
5 (UKJV) And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob:

6 (KAT) Vraveli Jeftemu: „Poď a buď naším vodcom! Bojujeme totiž proti Amončanom.“
6 (VUL) Dixeruntque ad eum: “ Veni et esto princeps noster, et pugnemus contra filios Ammon ”.
6 (UKJV) And they said unto Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.

7 (KAT) Jefte však odpovedal galaádskym starším: „Nie ste to práve vy, ktorí ste ma nenávideli a vyhnali z domu môjho otca? Prečo ste došli ku mne teraz, keď ste v úzkych?!“
7 (VUL) Quibus ille respondit: “ Nonne vos estis, qui odistis me et eiecistis de domo patris mei? Et nunc venistis ad me necessitate compulsi ”.
7 (UKJV) And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not all of you hate me, and expel me out of my father's house? and why are all of you come unto me now when all of you are in distress?

8 (KAT) Galaádski starší odpovedali Jeftemu: „Teraz sme sa obrátili na teba preto, aby si šiel s nami a bojoval proti Amončanom a bol hlavou všetkých, čo bývajú v Galaáde.“
8 (VUL) Dixeruntque principes Galaad ad Iephte: “ Ob hanc igitur causam nunc ad te venimus, ut proficiscaris nobiscum et pugnes contra filios Ammon sisque dux omnium, qui habitant in Galaad ”.
8 (UKJV) And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore we return to you now, that you may go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

9 (KAT) Nato sa opýtal Jefte galaádskych starších: „Keď ma teda privediete naspäť, aby som bojoval proti Amončanom, ak ich Pán dá do mojej ruky, budem aj potom vašou hlavou?“
9 (VUL) Iephte quoque dixit eis: “ Si revocatis me, ut pugnem pro vobis contra filios Ammon, tradideritque eos Dominus in manus meas, ego ero princeps vester ”.
9 (UKJV) And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If all of you bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?

10 (KAT) A galaádski starší odvetili Jeftemu: „Pán, ktorý počúva, je svedkom medzi nami, že splníme tvoje želanie.“
10 (VUL) Qui responderunt ei: “ Dominus, qui haec audit, ipse mediator ac testis est quod secundum verbum tuum faciemus ”.
10 (UKJV) And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, The LORD be witness between us, if we do not so according to your words.

11 (KAT) Potom Jefte šiel s galaádskymi staršími a ľud si ho ustanovil za hlavu a vodcu. Jefte prednášal všetky svoje reči pred Pánom v Masfe.
11 (VUL) Abiit itaque Iephte cum principibus Galaad, fecitque eum omnis populus principem sui. Locutusque est Iephte omnes sermones suos coram Domino in Maspha.
11 (UKJV) Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.

12 (KAT) Potom Jefte vyslal poslov s odkazom: „Čo chceš odo mňa, že si vytiahol proti mne, aby si bojoval v mojej krajine?!“
12 (VUL) Et misit Iephte nuntios ad regem filiorum Ammon, qui ex persona sua dicerent: “ Quid mihi et tibi est, quia venisti contra me, ut invaderes terram meam? ”.
12 (UKJV) And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What have you to do with me, that you are come against me to fight in my land?

13 (KAT) Amonský kráľ odpovedal Jefteho poslom: „Keď Izrael vystupoval z Egypta, zabral moje územie od Arnona až po Jabok a až k Jordánu. Preto mi ho teraz dobrovoľne vráť!“
13 (VUL) Quibus ille respondit: “ Quia tulit Israel terram meam, quando ascendit de Aegypto, a finibus Arnon usque Iaboc atque Iordanem; nunc igitur cum pace redde mihi eam ”.
13 (UKJV) And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came up out of Egypt, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and unto Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.

14 (KAT) Jefte však vyslal znova poslov k amonskému kráľovi
14 (VUL) Rursumque Iephte nuntios misit et imperavit eis, ut dicerent regi Ammon:
14 (UKJV) And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon:

15 (KAT) a odkázal mu: „Toto vraví Jefte: Izrael nevzal moabskú ani amonskú krajinu.
15 (VUL) “ Haec dicit Iephte: Non tulit Israel terram Moab nec terram filiorum Ammon.
15 (UKJV) And said unto him, Thus says Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:

16 (KAT) Ale keď vyšiel Izrael z Egypta, tiahol cez púšť až k Červenému moru a dostal sa až do Kádeša.
16 (VUL) Sed, quando de Aegypto conscenderunt, ambulavit Israel per solitudinem usque ad mare Rubrum et venit in Cades;
16 (UKJV) "But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness unto the Red sea, and came to Kadesh; "

17 (KAT) Izrael vyslal poslov k edomskému kráľovi s odkazom: »Chcel by som prejsť cez tvoju krajinu.« Ale edomský kráľ nechcel o tom ani počuť. Takisto poslal poslov aj k moabskému kráľovi. Ale ani on nechcel. Tak zostali Izraeliti v Kádeši.
17 (VUL) misitque nuntios ad regem Edom dicens: “Dimitte, ut transeam per terram tuam”. Qui noluit acquiescere precibus eius. Misit quoque et ad regem Moab, qui et ipse transitum praebere contempsit. Mansit itaque Israel in Cades
17 (UKJV) Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray you, pass through your land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of Moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.

18 (KAT) Potom putovali po púšti, obišli Edomsko a Moabsko a tiahli do krajiny východne od Moabska. Utáborili sa na druhej strane Arnona, ale na moabské územie nevošli, lebo Arnon je moabskou hranicou.
18 (VUL) et pertransiens desertum circuivit ex latere terram Edom et terram Moab venitque contra orientalem plagam terrae Moab et castrametatus est trans Arnon nec voluit intrare terminos Moab; Arnon quippe confinium est terrae Moab.
18 (UKJV) Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.

19 (KAT) Potom vyslali Izraeliti poslov k amorejskému kráľovi Sehonovi, kráľovi v Hesebone, a Izraeliti mu odkázali: »Chceli by sme prejsť cez tvoju krajinu až na svoje stanovište.«
19 (VUL) Misit itaque Israel nuntios ad Sehon regem Amorraeorum, regem Hesebon, et dixit ei: “Dimitte, ut transeam per terram tuam usque ad locum meum”.
19 (UKJV) "And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray you, through your land into my place. "

20 (KAT) Sehon však neveril Izraelitom, že chcú iba prejsť cez jeho územie. Ale Sehon zvolal všetok svoj ľud, zriadili tábor v Jase a bojoval proti Izraelitom.
20 (VUL) Qui et ipse Israel verbis diffidens non dimisit eum transire per terminos suos, sed, omni populo suo congregato, egressus est contra eum in Iasa et fortiter resistebat.
20 (UKJV) But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

21 (KAT) Lenže Pán, Izraelov Boh, dal Sehona a všetok jeho ľud do ruky Izraelitov. Porazili ich a Izrael zaujal celú krajinu Amorejčanov, ktorí v tej krajine bývali.
21 (VUL) Tradiditque eum Dominus in manu Israel cum omni exercitu suo, qui percussit eum et possedit omnem terram Amorraei habitatoris regionis illius,
21 (UKJV) And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they stroke them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.

22 (KAT) Opanovali teda celé územie Amorejčanov od Arnona až po Jabok a od púšte až po Jordán.
22 (VUL) universos fines eius de Arnon usque Iaboc et de solitudine usque ad Iordanem.
22 (UKJV) And they possessed all the coasts of the Amorites, from Arnon even unto Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto Jordan.

23 (KAT) Pán, Izraelov Boh, vyhnal predsa Amorejčanov kvôli svojmu izraelskému ľudu; a ty sa teraz chceš zmocniť jeho krajiny?!
23 (VUL) Dominus ergo, Deus Israel, subvertit Amorraeum coram populo suo Israel; et tu nunc vis possidere terram eius?
23 (UKJV) So now the LORD God of Israel has dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and should you possess it?

24 (KAT) Keď vyženie niekoho kvôli tebe tvoj boh Kamoš, neprivlastníš si jeho majetok? Tak máme aj my nárok na vlastníctvo každého, koho vyženie kvôli nám Pán, náš Boh.
24 (VUL) Nonne ea, quae tibi Chamos deus tuus in possessionem dat, tibi iure debentur? Quae autem Dominus Deus noster victor obtinuit, in nostram cedunt possessionem.
24 (UKJV) Will not you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.

25 (KAT) A teraz: si ty azda lepší ako moabský kráľ, Seforov syn Balak? Mal on s Izraelom spor, alebo s ním viedol vojnu?
25 (VUL) Num quid melior es Balac filio Sephor rege Moab? Numquid iurgatus est contra Israel et pugnavit contra eum?
25 (UKJV) And now are you any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,

26 (KAT) Keď býval Izrael tristo rokov v Hesebone a jeho dedinách, v Aroere a jeho dedinách a vo všetkých mestách, ktoré ležia na brehoch Arnona, prečo ste si ich nevydobili späť za ten čas?!
26 (VUL) Quando habitabat in Hesebon et viculis eius et in Aroer et villis illius et in cunctis civitatibus iuxta Arnon per trecentos annos, quare tanto tempore nihil super hac repetitione tentastis?
26 (UKJV) While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did all of you not recover them within that time?

27 (KAT) Ja som sa neprehrešil proti tebe, ale ty mne krivdíš, keď sa dávaš so mnou do vojny. Pán, Sudca, dnes po práve rozsúdi medzi Izraelitmi a Amončanmi.“
27 (VUL) Igitur non ego pecco in te, sed tu contra me male agis indicens mihi bella non iusta. Iudicet Dominus arbiter huius diei inter filios Israel et inter filios Ammon ”.
27 (UKJV) Wherefore I have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.

28 (KAT) Ale amonský kráľ nedal nič na Jefteho výklady, ktoré mu odkázal.
28 (VUL) Noluitque acquiescere rex filiorum Ammon verbis Iephte, quae per nuntios mandaverat.
28 (UKJV) Nevertheless the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

29 (KAT) Tu zostúpil na Jefteho Pánov duch, pochodil po Galaáde a Manassesovi, potom sa vybral do galaádskej Masfy a z galaádskej Masfy sa obrátil proti Amončanom.
29 (VUL) Factus est ergo super Iephte spiritus Domini, et pertransiens Galaad et Manasse venit in Maspha Galaad et inde ad filios Ammon.
29 (UKJV) Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.

30 (KAT) A Jefte urobil Pánovi tento sľub: „Keď mi dáš Amončanov do ruky,
30 (VUL) Votum autem vovit Domino dicens: “ Si tradideris filios Ammon in manus meas,
30 (UKJV) And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you shall without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,

31 (KAT) potom ten, kto mi vyjde z dvier môjho domu v ústrety - keď sa vrátim v pokoji od Amončanov -, bude patriť Pánovi a obetujem ho ako zápalnú obetu.“
31 (VUL) quicumque primus fuerit egressus de foribus domus meae mihique occurrerit revertenti cum pace a filiis Ammon, eum holocaustum offeram Domino ”.
31 (UKJV) Then it shall be, that whatsoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.

32 (KAT) Jefte teda vytiahol proti Amončanom, aby zviedol s nimi boj, a Pán mu ich dal do ruky.
32 (VUL) Transivitque Iephte ad filios Ammon, ut pugnaret contra eos; quos tradidit Dominus in manus eius.
32 (UKJV) "So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands. "

33 (KAT) Pripravil im mimoriadne veľkú porážku od Aroera, až ako prichádzaš do Menita - dvadsať miest - a až po Abel Keramim. Tak boli Amončania pokorení pred Izraelovými synmi.
33 (VUL) Percussitque eos ab Aroer usque dum venias in Mennith viginti civitates et usque ad Abelcharmim plaga magna nimis; humiliatique sunt filii Ammon a filiis Israel.
33 (UKJV) And he stroke them from Aroer, even till you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

34 (KAT) Keď sa Jefte vracal do Masfy, do svojho domu, - hľa - vyšla mu v ústrety s bubienkami a v tanci jeho dcéra. Bola to jeho jedináčka; okrem nej nemal ani syna, ani dcéry.
34 (VUL) Revertenti autem Iephte in Maspha domum suam occurrit unigenita filia cum tympanis et choris: non enim habebat alios liberos.
34 (UKJV) "And Jephthah came to Mizpeh unto his house, and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter. "

35 (KAT) Keď ju zazrel, roztrhol si odev a zvolal: „Beda, dcéra moja! Ty ma porážaš! Práve ty ma privádzaš do nešťastia! Urobil som sľub Pánovi a nemôžem ho odvolať.“
35 (VUL) Qua visa, scidit vestimenta sua et ait: “ Heu, filia mi, incurvans incurvasti me! Et tu es in eis, qui me perturbant! Aperui enim os meum ad Dominum et aliud facere non potero ”.
35 (UKJV) And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! you have brought me very low, and you are one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back.

36 (KAT) Povedala mu: „Otče môj, keď si urobil sľub Pánovi, tak na mne splň, čo si sľúbil, keďže ti Pán doprial vypomstiť sa na svojich nepriateľoch, Amončanoch.“
36 (VUL) Cui illa respondit: “ Pater mi, si aperuisti os tuum ad Dominum, fac mihi, quodcumque pollicitus es, concessa tibi a Domino ultione atque victoria de hostibus tuis filiis Ammon ”.
36 (UKJV) "And she said unto him, My father, if you have opened your mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which has proceeded out of your mouth; forasmuch as the LORD has taken vengeance for you of your enemies, even of the children of Ammon. "

37 (KAT) Potom prosila svojho otca: „Nech mi je dovolené toto: Popraj mi ešte dva mesiace! Chcela by som sa vzdialiť, vyjsť na hory a tam so svojimi priateľkami oplakať svoje panenstvo.“
37 (VUL) Dixitque ad patrem: “ Hoc solum mihi praesta, quod deprecor: Dimitte me, ut duobus mensibus circumeam montes et plangam virginitatem meam cum sodalibus meis ”.
37 (UKJV) And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and mourn for my virginity, I and my fellows.

38 (KAT) Odvetil jej: „Choď!“ A prepustil ju na dva mesiace. Potom odišla so svojimi priateľkami a na horách oplakávala svoje panenstvo.
38 (VUL) Cui ille respondit: “ Vade! ”. Et dimisit eam duobus mensibus. Cumque abisset cum sodalibus suis, flebat virginitatem suam in montibus.
38 (UKJV) And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.

39 (KAT) O dva mesiace sa vrátila k svojmu otcovi a vyplnil na nej sľub, ktorý urobil. Ona nepoznala muža. Odvtedy je zvykom v Izraeli,
39 (VUL) Expletisque duobus mensibus, reversa est ad patrem suum; et fecit ei, sicut voverat, quae non cognoverat virum. Exinde mos increbuit in Israel, et consuetudo servata est,
39 (UKJV) And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

40 (KAT) že sa z roka na rok schádzajú izraelské dcéry, aby štyri dni v roku oplakávali dcéru Galaádčana Jefteho.
40 (VUL) ut post anni circulum conveniant in unum filiae Israel et plangant filiam Iephte Galaaditae diebus quattuor.
40 (UKJV) That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
