1 (CPDV) After the death of Joshua, the sons of Israel consulted the Lord, saying, “Who will ascend before us, against the Canaanite, and who will be the commander of the war?”
1 (HEM) ויהי אחרי מות יהושע וישאלו בני ישראל ביהוה לאמר מי יעלה לנו אל הכנעני בתחלה להלחם בו׃
1 (KAT) Po Jozueho smrti sa Izraelovi synovia opýtali Pána: „Kto z nás má vytiahnuť prvý do boja proti Kanaánčanom?“

2 (CPDV) And the Lord said: “Judah shall ascend. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hands.”
2 (HEM) ויאמר יהוה יהודה יעלה הנה נתתי את הארץ בידו׃
2 (KAT) A Pán odpovedal: „Nech vytiahne Júda! Hľa, krajinu mu dávam do ruky!“

3 (CPDV) And Judah said to his brother Simeon, “Go up with me to my lot, and fight against the Canaanite, so that I also may go forth with you to your lot.” And Simeon went with him.
3 (HEM) ויאמר יהודה לשמעון אחיו עלה אתי בגורלי ונלחמה בכנעני והלכתי גם אני אתך בגורלך וילך אתו שמעון׃
3 (KAT) A Júda požiadal svojho brata Simeona: „Vyber sa so mnou do môjho podielu a budeme bojovať proti Kanaánčanom. Potom pôjdem zasa ja s tebou do tvojho podielu.“ Simeon išiel teda s ním.

4 (CPDV) And Judah went up, and the Lord delivered the Canaanite, as well as the Perizzite, into their hands. And they struck down ten thousand of the men at Bezek.
4 (HEM) ויעל יהודה ויתן יהוה את הכנעני והפרזי בידם ויכום בבזק עשרת אלפים איש׃
4 (KAT) Tak Júdovci vytiahli a Pán dal Kanaánčanov a Ferezejcov do ich ruky. Porazili ich v Bezeku, na desaťtisíc mužov.

5 (CPDV) And they found Adonibezek at Bezek, and they fought against him, and they struck down the Canaanite and the Perizzite.
5 (HEM) וימצאו את אדני בזק בבזק וילחמו בו ויכו את הכנעני ואת הפרזי׃
5 (KAT) V Bezeku našli Adonibezeka a bojovali proti nemu, keď porazili Kanaánčanov a Ferezejcov.

6 (CPDV) Then Adonibezek fled. And they pursued him and captured him, and they cut off the ends of his hands and feet.
6 (HEM) וינס אדני בזק וירדפו אחריו ויאחזו אתו ויקצצו את בהנות ידיו ורגליו׃
6 (KAT) Keď sa dal Adonibezek na útek, prenasledovali ho, kým ho nezajali, a uťali mu palce na rukách i nohách.

7 (CPDV) And Adonibezek said: “Seventy kings, with the ends of their hands and feet amputated, have been gathering the remnants of food under my table. Just as I have done, so has God repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
7 (HEM) ויאמר אדני בזק שבעים מלכים בהנות ידיהם ורגליהם מקצצים היו מלקטים תחת שלחני כאשר עשיתי כן שלם לי אלהים ויביאהו ירושלם וימת שם׃
7 (KAT) Tu povedal Adonibezek: „Sedemdesiat kráľov s odťatými palcami na rukách a nohách zbieralo (zvyšky pokrmov) pod mojím stolom. Ako som robil, tak mi Boh odplatil.“ A priviedli ho do Jeruzalema, kde aj zomrel.

8 (CPDV) Then the sons of Judah, besieging Jerusalem, seized it. And they struck it with edge of the sword, delivering the entire city to be burned.
8 (HEM) וילחמו בני יהודה בירושלם וילכדו אותה ויכוה לפי חרב ואת העיר שלחו באש׃
8 (KAT) Potom Júdovi synovia bojovali proti Jeruzalemu. Zaujali ho a vyhubili mečom a mesto podpálili.

9 (CPDV) And afterward, descending, they fought against the Canaanites who were living in the mountains, and in the south, and in the plains.
9 (HEM) ואחר ירדו בני יהודה להלחם בכנעני יושב ההר והנגב והשפלה׃
9 (KAT) Nato tiahli Júdovi synovia dolu, aby bojovali proti Kanaánčanom, ktorí bývali na vrchovine, v Negebe a v nížine.

10 (CPDV) And Judah, going forth against the Canaanites who were living at Hebron, (the name of which from antiquity was Kiriath-Arba) struck down Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
10 (HEM) וילך יהודה אל הכנעני היושב בחברון ושם חברון לפנים קרית ארבע ויכו את ששי ואת אחימן ואת תלמי׃
10 (KAT) Na výprave proti Kanaánčanom, čo bývali v Hebrone - Hebron sa predtým menoval Mesto Arbeovo -, Júdovci porazili Sesaja, Ahimana a Tolmaja.

11 (CPDV) And continuing on from there, he went to the inhabitants of Debir, the old name of which was Kiriath-Sepher, that is, the City of Letters.
11 (HEM) וילך משם אל יושבי דביר ושם דביר לפנים קרית ספר׃
11 (KAT) Odtiaľ tiahli proti obyvateľom Dabira. Dabir sa prv menoval Karjat-sefer.

12 (CPDV) And Caleb said, “Whoever will strike Kiriath-Sepher, and will lay waste to it, I will give to him my daughter Achsah as wife.”
12 (HEM) ויאמר כלב אשר יכה את קרית ספר ולכדה ונתתי לו את עכסה בתי לאשה׃
12 (KAT) Tu povedal Kaleb: „Kto premôže Karjat-sefer a zaujme ho, tomu dám za ženu svoju dcéru Aksu.“

13 (CPDV) And when Othniel, the son of Kenaz, a younger brother of Caleb, had seized it, he gave his daughter Achsah to him in marriage.
13 (HEM) וילכדה עתניאל בן קנז אחי כלב הקטן ממנו ויתן לו את עכסה בתו לאשה׃
13 (KAT) A dobyl ho Otoniel, syn Kenéza, mladšieho Kalebovho brata. I dal mu za ženu svoju dcéru Aksu.

14 (CPDV) And as she was traveling on a journey, her husband admonished her, so that she would request a field from her father. And since she had sighed while sitting on her donkey, Caleb said to her, “What is it?”
14 (HEM) ויהי בבואה ותסיתהו לשאול מאת אביה השדה ותצנח מעל החמור ויאמר לה כלב מה לך׃
14 (KAT) Keď mala odísť, podpichávala ho, aby žiadal nejaké pole od jej otca. I zoskočila z osla a Kaleb sa jej opýtal: „Čo ti je?“

15 (CPDV) But she responded: “Give a blessing to me. For you have given me a dry land. Also give a watered land.” Therefore, Caleb gave to her the upper watered land and the lower watered land.
15 (HEM) ותאמר לו הבה לי ברכה כי ארץ הנגב נתתני ונתתה לי גלת מים ויתן לה כלב את גלת עלית ואת גלת תחתית׃
15 (KAT) Odpovedala mu: „Daj mi veno! Dal si mi síce pole v Negebe, ale daj mi aj vodné pramene!“ A Kaleb jej dal horné pramene i dolné pramene.

16 (CPDV) Now the sons of the Kenite, the relative of Moses, ascended from the City of Palms, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of his lot, which is toward the south of Arad. And they lived with him.
16 (HEM) ובני קיני חתן משה עלו מעיר התמרים את בני יהודה מדבר יהודה אשר בנגב ערד וילך וישב את העם׃
16 (KAT) Synovia Kenejcu, Mojžišovho svokra, vytiahli z Mesta paliem s Júdovými synmi hore do Júdskej púšte, ktorá sa tiahne južne od Aradu a usadili sa medzi tamojším ľudom.

17 (CPDV) Then Judah went out with his brother Simeon, and together they struck the Canaanites who were living at Zephath, and they put them to death. And the name of the city was called Hormah, that is, Anathema.
17 (HEM) וילך יהודה את שמעון אחיו ויכו את הכנעני יושב צפת ויחרימו אותה ויקרא את שם העיר חרמה׃
17 (KAT) Potom tiahol Júda so svojím bratom Simeonom a porazili Kanaánčanov, ktorí bývali v Sefáte, vykonali na nich kliatbu a mesto dostalo meno Horma (čiže Kliatba).

18 (CPDV) And Judah seized Gaza, with its parts, and Ashkelon as well as Ekron, with their borders.
18 (HEM) וילכד יהודה את עזה ואת גבולה ואת אשקלון ואת גבולה ואת עקרון ואת גבולה׃
18 (KAT) A Júda dobyl Gazu s jej územím, Askalon s jeho územím a Akaron s jeho územím.

19 (CPDV) And the Lord was with Judah, and he possessed the mountains. But he was not able to wipe out the inhabitants of the valley. For they abounded with chariots armed with scythes.
19 (HEM) ויהי יהוה את יהודה וירש את ההר כי לא להוריש את ישבי העמק כי רכב ברזל להם׃
19 (KAT) Pán bol s Júdom, takže vrchovinu zaujal. Ale obyvateľov nížiny nemohli vypudiť, lebo mali železné vozy.

20 (CPDV) And just as Moses had said, they gave Hebron to Caleb, who destroyed out of it the three sons of Anak.
20 (HEM) ויתנו לכלב את חברון כאשר דבר משה ויורש משם את שלשה בני הענק׃
20 (KAT) Hebron dali Kalebovi, ako rozkázal Mojžiš, a on odtiaľ vypudil troch Enakových synov.

21 (CPDV) But the sons of Benjamin did not wipe out the Jebusite inhabitants of Jerusalem. And the Jebusite has lived with the sons of Benjamin in Jerusalem, even to the present day.
21 (HEM) ואת היבוסי ישב ירושלם לא הורישו בני בנימן וישב היבוסי את בני בנימן בירושלם עד היום הזה׃
21 (KAT) Ale Jebuzejcov, ktorí obývali Jeruzalem, Benjamínovi synovia nevypudili. Tak Jebuzejci bývajú s Benjamínovými synmi v Jeruzaleme až dodnes.

22 (CPDV) The house of Joseph also ascended against Bethel, and the Lord was with them.
22 (HEM) ויעלו בית יוסף גם הם בית אל ויהוה עמם׃
22 (KAT) Aj Jozefov dom tiahol hore do Betela a Pán bol s nimi.

23 (CPDV) For when they were besieging the city, which was previously called Luz,
23 (HEM) ויתירו בית יוסף בבית אל ושם העיר לפנים לוז׃
23 (KAT) Keď z Jozefovho domu podnikali výzvedy do Betela - mesto sa predtým nazývalo Luza -,

24 (CPDV) they saw a man departing from the city, and they said to him, “Reveal to us the entrance to the city, and we will act with mercy toward you.”
24 (HEM) ויראו השמרים איש יוצא מן העיר ויאמרו לו הראנו נא את מבוא העיר ועשינו עמך חסד׃
24 (KAT) hliadky videli istého muža, ktorý vychádzal z mesta, a povedali mu: „Ukáž nám, kade možno vojsť do mesta! Potom ti dáme milosť!“

25 (CPDV) And when he had revealed it to them, they struck the city with the edge of the sword. But that man, and all his relatives, they released.
25 (HEM) ויראם את מבוא העיר ויכו את העיר לפי חרב ואת האיש ואת כל משפחתו שלחו׃
25 (KAT) A keď im ukázal, kade sa dá vojsť do mesta, vybili mesto mečom, ale onoho muža a celú jeho rodinu prepustili.

26 (CPDV) And having been sent away, he went out to the land of the Hittites, and he built a city there, and he called it Luz. And so it is called, even to the present day.
26 (HEM) וילך האיש ארץ החתים ויבן עיר ויקרא שמה לוז הוא שמה עד היום הזה׃
26 (KAT) Ten muž sa odobral do krajiny Hetejcov, postavil si tam mesto a nazval ho Luza. Tak sa menuje až podnes.

27 (CPDV) Likewise, Manasseh did not destroy Bethshean and Taanach, with their villages, nor the inhabitants of Dor and Ibleam and Megiddo, with their villages. And the Canaanite began to live with them.
27 (HEM) ולא הוריש מנשה את בית שאן ואת בנותיה ואת תענך ואת בנתיה ואת ישב דור ואת בנותיה ואת יושבי יבלעם ואת בנתיה ואת יושבי מגדו ואת בנותיה ויואל הכנעני לשבת בארץ הזאת׃
27 (KAT) Ale ani Manasses si nepodmanil Betsan s jeho dedinami, Tanak s jeho dedinami, obyvateľov Dora s jeho dedinami, obyvateľov Jeblaáma s jeho dedinami a obyvateľov Mageda s jeho dedinami. Tak sa umožnilo Kanaánčanom zostať v tejto krajine.

28 (CPDV) Then, after Israel had grown strong, he made them tributaries, but he was not willing to destroy them.
28 (HEM) ויהי כי חזק ישראל וישם את הכנעני למס והוריש לא הורישו׃
28 (KAT) Keď potom Izrael zosilnel, donútil ich na roboty, ale celkom si ich nepodmanil.

29 (CPDV) And now Ephraim did not put to death the Canaanite, who was living at Gezer; instead, he lived with him.
29 (HEM) ואפרים לא הוריש את הכנעני היושב בגזר וישב הכנעני בקרבו בגזר׃
29 (KAT) Ani Efraim nevypudil Kanaánčanov, ktorí bývali v Gazere. Tak zostali Kanaánčania medzi nimi v Gazere.

30 (CPDV) Zebulun did not wipe out the inhabitants of Kitron and of Nahalal. Instead, the Canaanite lived in their midst and became their tributary.
30 (HEM) זבולן לא הוריש את יושבי קטרון ואת יושבי נהלל וישב הכנעני בקרבו ויהיו למס׃
30 (KAT) Zabulon nevypudil obyvateľov Ketrona a obyvateľov Nálola. Tak zostali Kanaánčania medzi nimi, ale museli na nich robiť.

31 (CPDV) Likewise, Asher did not destroy the inhabitants of Acco and Sidon, Ahlab and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob.
31 (HEM) אשר לא הוריש את ישבי עכו ואת יושבי צידון ואת אחלב ואת אכזיב ואת חלבה ואת אפיק ואת רחב׃
31 (KAT) Aser zasa nevyhnal obyvateľov Aka ani obyvateľov Sidona, ani Ahalaba, Achaziba, Helbu, Afeka a Rohoba.

32 (CPDV) And he lived in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of that land, for he did not put them to death.
32 (HEM) וישב האשרי בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ כי לא הורישו׃
32 (KAT) Tak Aserovci bývali medzi Kanaánčanmi, ktorí zostali v krajine, lebo ich nevypudili.

33 (CPDV) Naphtali also did not wipe out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Bethanath. And he lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land. And the Beth-shemeshites and Bethanathites were tributaries to him.
33 (HEM) נפתלי לא הוריש את ישבי בית שמש ואת ישבי בית ענת וישב בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ וישבי בית שמש ובית ענת היו להם למס׃
33 (KAT) Neftali nevypudil obyvateľov Bet-Šemeša a obyvateľov Bet-Anata. Tak bývali medzi Kanaánčanmi, ktorí zostali v krajine. Ale obyvatelia Bet-Šemeša a Bet-Anata museli na nich robiť.

34 (CPDV) And the Amorite hemmed in the sons of Dan on the mountain, and did not give them a place, so that they might descend to the flatlands.
34 (HEM) וילחצו האמרי את בני דן ההרה כי לא נתנו לרדת לעמק׃
34 (KAT) Amorejčania vytláčali Danových synov na vrchovinu a nedovoľovali im zostúpiť na rovinu.

35 (CPDV) And he lived on the mountain at Har-heres, which is translated as ‘resembling brick,’ and at Aijalon and Sha-alabbin. But the hand of the house of Joseph was very heavy, and he became a tributary to him.
35 (HEM) ויואל האמרי לשבת בהר חרס באילון ובשעלבים ותכבד יד בית יוסף ויהיו למס׃
35 (KAT) A tak zostali Amorejčania bývať v Har-Harese, v Ajalone a Salebime. Keď však ruka Jozefovho domu zosilnela, museli na nich robiť.

36 (CPDV) Now the border of the Amorite was from the Ascent of the Scorpion, to the Rock and the higher places.
36 (HEM) וגבול האמרי ממעלה עקרבים מהסלע ומעלה׃
36 (KAT) Územie Amorejčanov ide od Škorpiónovej vysočiny, od Sely ďalej hore.
