And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Zjv 3,4 - Odev vyjadruje duchovné kvality. Biela farba je symbolom nevinnosti, ale aj víťazstva, zvlášť nebeského.
Zjv 3,5 - Kniha života v Starom zákone označovala prináležanie k mesiášskym dobrám a účasť na nich (porov. Ex 32, 32–33; Iz 4, 3; Ž 69, 28–29; Dan 12, 1). Tu symbolizuje zoznam všetkých vyvolených (13, 8; 17, 8; 20, 12. 15; 21, 27).
Zjv 3,7 - Filadelfia bola 45 km na juhovýchod od Sárd. Mesto bolo zničené zemetrasením, ale cisár Tibérius ho znova vybudoval. "Otvára" – porov. Iz 22, 22. Je symbolom plnej a výlučnej moci Krista nad nebeským Jeruzalemom.
Zjv 3,8 - Otvorené dvere tu symbolizujú možnosť šírenia evanjelia. Porov. 1 Kor 16, 9; 2 Kor 2, 12; Kol 4, 3.
Zjv 3,9 - O satanovej synagóge pozri poznámku k 2, 9. Porov. Iz 45, 14; 60, 14; 43, 4.
Zjv 3,14 - Laodicea – mesto vo Frýgii, na východ od Efezu. Bola obchodným a remeselným mestom. "Amen" je Kristus (porov. 2 Kor 1, 19–20), čiže splnenie Božích prisľúbení.
