1 (VUL) Presbyter Gaio carissimo, quem ego diligo in veritate.
1 (UKJV) The elder unto the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 (VUL) Carissime, in omnibus exopto prospere te agere et valere, sicut prospere agit anima tua.
2 (UKJV) Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.

3 (VUL) Nam gavisus sum valde, venientibus fratribus et testimonium perhibentibus veritati tuae, quomodo tu in veritate ambules.
3 (UKJV) For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.

4 (VUL) Maius horum non habeo gaudium, quam ut audiam filios meos in veritate ambulare.
4 (UKJV) I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

5 (VUL) Carissime, fideliter facis, quidquid operaris in fratres et hoc in peregrinos,
5 (UKJV) "Beloved, you do faithfully whatsoever you do to the brethren, and to strangers; "

6 (VUL) qui testimonium reddiderunt caritati tuae in conspectu ecclesiae. Bene facies subveniens illis in via digne Deo;
6 (UKJV) Which have borne witness of your love (o. agape) before the church: whom if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well:

7 (VUL) pro nomine enim profecti sunt, nihil accipientes a gentilibus.
7 (UKJV) Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8 (VUL) Nos ergo debemus sublevare huiusmodi, ut cooperatores simus veritatis.
8 (UKJV) We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow-helpers to the truth.

9 (VUL) Scripsi aliquid ecclesiae; sed is qui amat primatum gerere in eis, Diotrephes, non recipit nos.
9 (UKJV) I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not.

10 (VUL) Propter hoc, si venero, commonebo eius opera, quae facit verbis malignis garriens in nos; et quasi non ei ista sufficiant, nec ipse suscipit fratres et eos, qui cu piunt, prohibet et de ecclesia eicit.
10 (UKJV) Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, babbling against us with malicious words: (o. logos) and not content therewith, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and forbids them that would, and casts them out of the church.

11 (VUL) Carissime, noli imitari malum, sed quod bonum est. Qui benefacit, ex Deo est; qui malefacit, non vidit Deum.
11 (UKJV) Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: but he that does evil has not seen God.

12 (VUL) Demetrio testimonium redditur ab omnibus et ab ipsa veritate; sed et nos testimonium perhibemus, et scis quoniam testimonium nostrum verum est.
12 (UKJV) "Demetrius has good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and all of you know that our record is true. "

13 (VUL) Multa habui scribere tibi, sed nolo per atramentum et calamum scribere tibi;
13 (UKJV) I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto you:

14 (VUL) spero autem protinus te videre, et os ad os loquemur.
14 (UKJV) But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to you. Our friends salute you. Greet the friends by name.

15 (VUL) Pax tibi. Salutant te amici. Saluta amicos nominatim.
