3. Jánov list

1 (KJV) The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
1 (B21) Já starší píšu milovanému Gaiovi, kterého miluji v pravdě.

2 (KJV) Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
2 (B21) Milovaný, především si přeji, abys ve všem prospíval a byl zdráv, tak jako prospívá tvá duše.

3 (KJV) For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
3 (B21) Udělalo mi nesmírnou radost, když přišli bratři a vydávali svědectví o tvé opravdovosti a o tom, jak žiješ v pravdě.

4 (KJV) I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
4 (B21) Nemám větší radost než slyšet, že mé děti žijí v pravdě!

5 (KJV) Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
5 (B21) Milovaný, prokazuješ svou věrnost v tom, jak se chováš k bratrům a zvláště k hostům.

6 (KJV) Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
6 (B21) Oni sami vydali před církví svědectví o tvé lásce. Uděláš dobře, když je vypravíš na cestu, jak se to Bohu líbí.

7 (KJV) Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
7 (B21) Jsou přece na cestách kvůli jeho jménu a od pohanů nic nepřijímají.

8 (KJV) We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
8 (B21) Chceme-li tedy pomáhat pravdě, musíme takové lidi přijímat.

9 (KJV) I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
9 (B21) Psal jsem o tom vaší církvi, ale Diotrefes, který tak rád poroučí druhým, nás neuznává.

10 (KJV) Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
10 (B21) Proto až přijdu, připomenu, co dělá, když o nás šíří ty zlé nesmysly. A jako by toho nebylo dost, nejenže sám bratry nepřijímá, ale druhým to zakazuje a vyhání je z církve.

11 (KJV) Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
11 (B21) Milovaný, neber si příklad ze zlého, ale z dobrého. Kdo jedná dobře, je z Boha; kdo jedná zle, Boha vůbec neviděl.

12 (KJV) Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
12 (B21) Demetrios má dobré svědectví ode všech, i od samotné pravdy. I my mu vydáváme svědectví a víš, že naše svědectví je pravdivé.

13 (KJV) I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
13 (B21) Napsal bych ti ještě mnohem více, ale nechci ti psát inkoustem a perem.

14 (KJV) But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
14 (B21) Mám totiž naději, že tě brzy uvidím a promluvíme spolu tváří v tvář.

15 (B21) Pokoj tobě. Pozdravují tě přátelé. Pozdravuj každého z přátel osobně.
