1 (VUL) Haec sunt verba, quae locutus est Moyses ad omnem Israel trans Iordanem in solitudine, in Araba contra Suph, inter Pharan et Thophel et Laban et Aseroth et Dizahab.
1 (UKJV) These be the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain opposite to the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

2 (VUL) Undecim dies de Horeb per viam montis Seir usque Cadesbarne.
2 (UKJV) (There are eleven days' journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadeshbarnea.)

3 (VUL) Quadragesimo anno, undecimo mense, prima die mensis locutus est Moyses ad filios Israel omnia, quae praeceperat illi Dominus ut diceret eis.
3 (UKJV) "And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them; "

4 (VUL) Postquam percussit Sehon regem Amorraeorum, qui habitavit in Hesebon, et Og regem Basan, qui mansit in Astharoth et in Edrai,
4 (UKJV) After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:

5 (VUL) trans Iordanem in terra Moab coepitque Moyses explanare legem hanc et dicere:
5 (UKJV) On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

6 (VUL) “ Dominus Deus noster locutus est ad nos in Horeb dicens: “Sufficit vobis quod in hoc monte mansistis;
6 (UKJV) The LORD our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying, All of you have dwelt long enough in this mount:

7 (VUL) convertimini et proficiscimini et venite ad montem Amorraeorum et ad omnes vicinos eius: in Araba atque montanis et in Sephela et in Nageb et iuxta litus maris, in terram Chananaeorum et in Libanum usque ad flumen magnum Euphraten.
7 (UKJV) Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.

8 (VUL) En, inquit, tradidi vobis terram: ingredimini et possidete eam, super qua iuravit Dominus patribus vestris, Abraham, Isaac et Iacob, ut daret illam eis et semini eorum post eos”.
8 (UKJV) Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

9 (VUL) Dixique vobis illo in tempore: Non possum solus sustinere vos;
9 (UKJV) And I spoke unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:

10 (VUL) Dominus Deus vester multiplicavit vos, et estis hodie sicut stellae caeli plurimi.
10 (UKJV) The LORD your God has multiplied you, and, behold, all of you are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

11 (VUL) Dominus, Deus patrum vestrorum, addat ad hunc numerum multa milia et benedicat vobis, sicut locutus est vobis.
11 (UKJV) (The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as all of you are, and bless you, as he has promised you!)

12 (VUL) Non valeo solus vestra negotia sustinere et pondus ac iurgia;
12 (UKJV) How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

13 (VUL) date vobis viros sapientes et gnaros, et quorum conversatio sit probata in tribubus vestris, ut ponam eos vobis principes.
13 (UKJV) Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.

14 (VUL) Tunc respondistis mihi: “Bona res est, quam vis facere”.
14 (UKJV) And all of you answered me, and said, The thing which you have spoken is good for us to do.

15 (VUL) Tulique principes de tribubus vestris viros sapientes et probatos et constitui eos principes super vos: tribunos et centuriones et quinquagenarios ac decanos et praefectos operum pro tribubus vestris.
15 (UKJV) So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.

16 (VUL) Praecepique iudicibus vestris in tempore illo: Audite causam fratrum vestrorum et, quod iustum est, iudicate, sive civis sit ille sive peregrinus.
16 (UKJV) And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.

17 (VUL) Non accipietis personam in iudicio; ita parvum audietis ut magnum nec timebitis cuiusquam personam, quia Dei iudicium est. Quod si difficile vobis aliquid visum fuerit, referte ad me, et ego audiam.
17 (UKJV) "All of you shall not respect persons in judgment; but all of you shall hear the small as well as the great; all of you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it. "

18 (VUL) Praecepique vobis in tempore illo omnia, quae facere deberetis.
18 (UKJV) And I commanded you at that time all the things which all of you should do.

19 (VUL) Profecti autem de Horeb transivimus per totam illam eremum maximam et terribilem, quam vidistis, per viam montis Amorraei, sicut praeceperat Dominus Deus noster nobis. Cumque venissemus in Cadesbarne,
19 (UKJV) "And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which all of you saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadeshbarnea. "

20 (VUL) dixi vobis: Venistis ad montem Amorraei, quem Dominus Deus noster daturus est nobis.
20 (UKJV) And I said unto you, All of you are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God does give unto us.

21 (VUL) Vide terram, quam Dominus Deus tuus dat tibi: ascende et posside eam, sicut locutus est tibi Dominus, Deus patrum tuorum; noli metuere nec quidquam paveas.
21 (UKJV) "Behold, the LORD your God has set the land before you: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of your fathers has said unto you; fear not, neither be discouraged. "

22 (VUL) Et accessistis ad me vos omnes atque dixistis: “Mittamus viros ante nos, qui considerent terram et renuntient de itinere, per quod debeamus ascendere, et de civitatibus, ad quas pergere”.
22 (UKJV) And all of you came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.

23 (VUL) Cumque mihi sermo placuisset, misi ex vobis duodecim viros singulos de tribubus suis.
23 (UKJV) And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:

24 (VUL) Qui cum perrexissent et ascendissent in montana, venerunt usque ad Nehelescol et, considerata terra,
24 (UKJV) And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.

25 (VUL) sumentes de fructibus eius attulerunt ad nos atque dixerunt: “Bona est terra, quam Dominus Deus noster daturus est nobis”.
25 (UKJV) And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God does give us.

26 (VUL) Et noluistis ascendere, sed increduli ad sermonem Domini Dei vestri
26 (UKJV) Notwithstanding all of you would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:

27 (VUL) murmurastis in tabernaculis vestris atque dixistis: “Odit nos Dominus et idcirco eduxit nos de terra Aegypti, ut traderet nos in manu Amorraei atque deleret.
27 (UKJV) And all of you murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

28 (VUL) Quo ascendemus? Fratres nostri terruerunt cor nostrum dicentes: Maxima multitudo est et nobis in statura procerior; urbes magnae et ad caelum usque munitae; etiam filios Enacim vidimus ibi”.
28 (UKJV) "Where shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there. "

29 (VUL) Et dixi vobis: Nolite metuere nec timeatis eos.
29 (UKJV) Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.

30 (VUL) Dominus Deus, qui ductor est vester, ipse pro vobis pugnabit, sicut fecit in Aegypto, vobis videntibus.
30 (UKJV) "The LORD your God which goes before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes; "

31 (VUL) Et in solitudine — ipse vidisti — portavit te Dominus Deus tuus, ut solet homo gestare parvulum filium suum, in omni via, per quam ambulastis, donec veniretis ad locum istum.
31 (UKJV) And in the wilderness, where you have seen how that the LORD your God bare you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that all of you went, until all of you came into this place.

32 (VUL) Et nec sic quidem credidistis Domino Deo vestro,
32 (UKJV) Yet in this thing all of you did not believe the LORD your God,

33 (VUL) qui praecessit vos in via, et metatus est locum, in quo tentoria figere deberetis, nocte ostendens vobis iter per ignem et die per columnam nubis.
33 (UKJV) Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way all of you should go, and in a cloud by day.

34 (VUL) Cumque audisset Dominus vocem sermonum vestrorum, iratus iuravit et ait:
34 (UKJV) And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,

35 (VUL) “Non videbit quispiam de viris generationis huius pessimae terram bonam, quam sub iuramento pollicitus sum patribus vestris,
35 (UKJV) Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers.

36 (VUL) praeter Chaleb filium Iephonne: ipse enim videbit eam, et ipsi dabo terram, quam calcavit, et filiis eius, quia adimplevit ut sequeretur Dominum”.
36 (UKJV) "Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he has trodden upon, and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD. "

37 (VUL) Mihi quoque iratus Dominus propter vos dixit: “Nec tu ingredieris illuc;
37 (UKJV) Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, You also shall not go in thither.

38 (VUL) sed Iosue filius Nun minister tuus ipse intrabit illuc. Hunc robora, et ipse terram sorte dividat Israeli.
38 (UKJV) But Joshua the son of Nun, which stands before you, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

39 (VUL) Parvuli vestri, de quibus dixistis quod captivi ducerentur, et filii, qui hodie boni ac mali ignorant distantiam, ipsi ingredientur; et ipsis dabo terram, et possidebunt eam.
39 (UKJV) Moreover your little ones, which all of you said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

40 (VUL) Vos autem revertimini et abite in solitudinem per viam maris Rubri”.
40 (UKJV) But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

41 (VUL) Et respondistis mihi: “Peccavimus Domino; nos ascendemus atque pugnabimus, sicut praecepit nobis Dominus Deus noster”. Cumque instructi armis pergeretis in montem,
41 (UKJV) Then all of you answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when all of you had girded on every man his weapons of war, all of you were ready to go up into the hill.

42 (VUL) ait mihi Dominus: “Dic ad eos: Nolite ascendere neque pugnetis, non enim sum vobiscum, ne cadatis coram inimicis vestris”.
42 (UKJV) "And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them. Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest all of you be smitten before your enemies. "

43 (VUL) Locutus sum, et non audistis, sed adversantes imperio Domini et tumentes superbia ascendistis in montem.
43 (UKJV) "So I spoke unto you; and all of you would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill. "

44 (VUL) Itaque egressus Amorraeus, qui habitat in monte illo, obviam vobis, persecutus est vos, sicut solent apes persequi, et cecidit vos de Seir usque Horma.
44 (UKJV) And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.

45 (VUL) Cumque reversi ploraretis coram Domino, non audivit vos nec voci vestrae voluit acquiescere.
45 (UKJV) "And all of you returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you. "

46 (VUL) Sedistis ergo in Cades multo illo tempore, dum ibi mansistis.
46 (UKJV) So all of you abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that all of you abode there.
