Rim 11,2-3 - "Zvyšok", ktorý si Boh vyvolil, uveril v Ježiša Krista. To sú tí, čo predstavujú pravý Izrael, vyvolený Boží ľud. Už za proroka Eliáša, keď Izraeliti upadli do modloslužby, časť z nich zostala verná Bohu.
Rim 11,2-3 - 1 Kr 19, 10. 14. 18.
Rim 11,4 - 1 Kr 19, 18.
Rim 11,7 - Židia mali Zákon i Prorokov, a predsa ostali hluchí a slepí, keď prišiel prisľúbený Mesiáš. To, čo im malo byť svetlom a príležitosťou na spásu, stalo sa im pre ich neveru tmou a príčinou zavrhnutia.

Boh všetkých, Židov aj pohanov, povoláva k spáse. Že väčšia časť Židov neprijala vieru, uľahčilo pohanom, aby oni prijali vieru v Krista. A po čase (Lk 21, 24) bude nasledovať hromadné obrátenie vyvoleného národa.
Rim 11,33-35 - Pavol sa korí tajomstvu Božej múdrosti a oslavuje ju slovami Iz 40, 13; Jer 23, 18; Jób 11, 7–8.
