Rim 1,1 - Pavol viackrát v listoch zdôrazňuje, že je "povolaný" apoštol, t. j. nie z vlastnej vôle, ale od samého Boha, tak ako ostatní apoštoli, a že je s nimi vo všetkom rovnoprávny. Lebo protivníci zlomyseľne podrývali jeho autoritu u veriacich.
Rim 1,3 - "Podľa tela", t. j. podľa ľudskej prirodzenosti. Kristus ako Boží Syn sa vo svojej moci ukázal po svojom zmŕtvychvstaní.
Rim 1,7 - Veriacich nazýva svätými. Kresťania sú totiž svätým, vyvoleným Božím ľudom.
Rim 1,14 - "Barbarmi" sa rozumejú tie národy, ktoré neprijali grécku kultúru.
Rim 1,16 - Nositeľmi starozákonného zjavenia boli Židia, a preto aj evanjelium sa malo hlásať najprv im a potom pohanom ("Grékom").
Rim 1,17 - Hab 2, 4. Božia spravodlivosť znamená Božiu dobrotu, ktorou chce Boh spasiť ľudí. Nevyhnutnou a jedinou podmienkou prijatia spásy je viera. "Z viery pre vieru" sa vysvetľuje rôzne: môže znamenať z viery Starého zákona k viere Nového zákona; vieru vo fakty i vieru v prísľuby budúcich vecí; nepochybne nezdôrazňuje iba nevyhnutnosť samej viery, ale aj jej rozvíjanie.
Rim 1,20 - Klasický text o možnosti poznať božskú bytosť zo stvorených vecí (porov. Múd 13, 1–9). Boh je neviditeľný, ale ľudský rozum má možnosť poznať ho ako príčinu i cieľ všetkého stvorenstva. V každej stvorenej bytosti môžeme akoby v zrkadle zachytiť odraz jej pôvodcu a stvoriteľa, a tak nepriamo, zdravým usudzovaním poznať jestvovanie Boha a do istej miery aj jeho vlastnosti.
Rim 1,23 - Porov. Ž 106, 20.
Rim 1,24-32 - Odpadnutie od Boha má vždy za následok rastúci mravný úpadok a rozklad ľudskej spoločnosti. "Boh ich vydal", to jest dopustil.
Rim 1,32 - Zloba tých, ktorí aj iných povzbudzujú na zlo a schvaľujú ich zlé skutky, je, prirodzene tým väčšia.
