And he was not able to perform any miracles there, except that he cured a few of the infirm by laying his hands on them.

And he wondered, because of their unbelief, and he traveled around in the villages, teaching.

For Herod was apprehensive of John, knowing him to be a just and holy man, and so he guarded him. And he heard that he was accomplishing many things, and so he listened to him willingly.
Mt 14:5 - And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet.
Mt 21:26 - “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From men,’ we have the crowd to fear, for they all hold John to be a prophet.”

And when an opportune time had arrived, Herod held a feast on his birthday, with the leaders, and the tribunes, and the first rulers of Galilee.
Gn 40:20 - The third day thereafter was the birthday of Pharaoh. And making a great feast for his servants, he remembered, during the banquet, the chief cupbearer and the chief miller of grain.
Mt 14:6 - Then, on Herod’s birthday, the daughter of Herodias danced in their midst, and it pleased Herod.

And he said to them: “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.” And when they had found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.”

And having received the five loaves and the two fish, gazing up to heaven, he blessed and broke the bread, and he gave it to his disciples to set before them. And the two fish he divided among them all.

And without delay he urged his disciples to climb into the boat, so that they might precede him across the sea to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the people.

Mk 6,8-9 - Napriek niektorým rozdielom v porovnaní s Mt 10, 10 obsah je ten istý. Mať na cestu iba palicu je práve toľká chudoba, ako ju ani nemať. Apoštol musí byť odpútaný od všetkého. Ježiš ich zveruje Božej prozreteľnosti. Východná pohostinnosť im zabezpečovala jedlo i bývanie, nemali to však zneužívať.
Mk 6,13 - Apoštoli mazali chorých olejom. Tridentský koncil v tom vidí predobraz sviatosti pomazania chorých. Podobne o tom hovorí aj apoštolská konštitúcia Pavla VI. Sacram Unctionem infirmorum.
