1 (VUL) Videns autem turbas, ascendit in montem; et cum sedisset, ac cesserunt ad eum discipuli eius;
1 (UKJV) And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 (VUL) et aperiens os suum docebat eos dicens:
2 (UKJV) And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 (VUL) “ Beati pauperes spiritu, quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum.
3 (UKJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: (o. pneuma) for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 (VUL) Beati, qui lugent, quoniam ipsi consolabuntur.
4 (UKJV) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 (VUL) Beati mites, quoniam ipsi possidebunt terram.
5 (UKJV) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 (VUL) Beati, qui esuriunt et sitiunt iustitiam, quoniam ipsi saturabuntur.
6 (UKJV) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 (VUL) Beati misericordes, quia ipsi misericordiam consequentur.
7 (UKJV) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

8 (VUL) Beati mundo corde, quoniam ipsi Deum videbunt.
8 (UKJV) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 (VUL) Beati pacifici, quoniam filii Dei vocabuntur.
9 (UKJV) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 (VUL) Beati, qui persecutionem patiuntur propter iustitiam, quoniam ipsorum est regnum caelorum.
10 (UKJV) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 (VUL) Beati estis cum maledixerint vobis et persecuti vos fuerint et dixerint omne malum adversum vos, mentientes, propter me.
11 (UKJV) Blessed are all of you, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil (o. rhema) against you falsely, for my sake.

12 (VUL) Gaudete et exsultate, quoniam merces vestra copiosa est in caelis; sic enim persecuti sunt prophetas, qui fuerunt ante vos.
12 (UKJV) Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13 (VUL) Vos estis sal terrae; quod si sal evanuerit, in quo salietur? Ad nihilum valet ultra, nisi ut mittatur foras et conculcetur ab hominibus.
13 (UKJV) All of you are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 (VUL) Vos estis lux mundi. Non potest civitas abscondi supra montem posita;
14 (UKJV) All of you are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 (VUL) neque accendunt lucernam et ponunt eam sub modio, sed super candelabrum, ut luceat omnibus, qui in domo sunt.
15 (UKJV) "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. "

16 (VUL) Sic luceat lux vestra coram hominibus, ut videant vestra bona opera et glorificent Patrem vestrum, qui in caelis est.
16 (UKJV) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

17 (VUL) Nolite putare quoniam veni solvere Legem aut Prophetas; non veni solvere, sed adimplere.
17 (UKJV) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

18 (VUL) Amen quippe dico vobis: Donec transeat caelum et terra, iota unum aut unus apex non praeteribit a Lege, donec omnia fiant.
18 (UKJV) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 (VUL) Qui ergo solverit unum de mandatis istis minimis et docuerit sic homines, minimus vocabitur in regno caelorum; qui autem fecerit et docuerit, hic magnus vocabitur in regno caelorum.
19 (UKJV) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 (VUL) Dico enim vobis: Nisi abundaverit iustitia vestra plus quam scribarum et pharisaeorum, non intrabitis in regnum caelorum.
20 (UKJV) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, all of you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21 (VUL) Audistis quia dictum est antiquis: “Non occides; qui autem occiderit, reus erit iudicio”.
21 (UKJV) "All of you have heard that it was said of them of old time, You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: "

22 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Omnis, qui irascitur fratri suo, reus erit iudicio; qui autem dixerit fratri suo: “Racha”, reus erit concilio; qui autem dixerit: “Fatue”, reus erit gehennae ignis.
22 (UKJV) But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, You fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23 (VUL) Si ergo offeres munus tuum ad altare, et ibi recordatus fueris quia frater tuus habet aliquid adversum te,
23 (UKJV) "Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has ought against you; "

24 (VUL) relinque ibi munus tuum ante altare et vade, prius, reconciliare fratri tuo et tunc veniens offer munus tuum.
24 (UKJV) "Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. "

25 (VUL) Esto consentiens adversario tuo cito, dum es in via cum eo, ne forte tradat te adversarius iudici, et iudex tradat te ministro, et in carcerem mittaris.
25 (UKJV) "Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. "

26 (VUL) Amen dico tibi: Non exies inde, donec reddas novissimum quadrantem.
26 (UKJV) Verily I say unto you, You shall by no means come out thence, till you have paid the uttermost farthing.

27 (VUL) Audistis quia dictum est: "Non moechaberis".
27 (UKJV) All of you have heard that it was said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultery:

28 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Omnis, qui viderit mulierem ad concupiscendum eam, iam moechatus est eam in corde suo.
28 (UKJV) But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 (VUL) Quod si oculus tuus dexter scandalizat te, erue eum et proice abs te; expedit enim tibi, ut pereat unum membrorum tuorum, quam totum corpus tuum mittatur in gehennam.
29 (UKJV) And if your right eye offend you, pluck it out, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

30 (VUL) Et si dextera manus tua scandalizat te, abscide eam et proice abs te; expedit enim tibi, ut pereat unum membrorum tuorum, quam totum corpus tuum abeat in gehennam.
30 (UKJV) And if your right hand offend you, cut it off, and cast it from you: for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

31 (VUL) Dictum est autem: “Quicumque dimiserit uxorem suam, det illi libellum repudii”.
31 (UKJV) It has been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:

32 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Omnis, qui dimiserit uxorem suam, excepta fornicationis causa, facit eam moechari; et, qui dimissam duxerit, adulterat.
32 (UKJV) But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause (o. logos) of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced commits adultery.

33 (VUL) Iterum audistis quia dictum est antiquis: "Non periurabis; reddes autem Domino iuramenta tua".
33 (UKJV) Again, all of you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, You shall not renounce swearing yourself, but shall perform unto the Lord your oaths:

34 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Non iurare omnino, neque per caelum, quia thronus Dei est,
34 (UKJV) "But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: "

35 (VUL) neque per terram, quia scabellum est pedum eius, neque per Hierosolymam, quia civitas est magni Regis;
35 (UKJV) "Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. "

36 (VUL) neque per caput tuum iuraveris, quia non potes unum capillum album facere aut nigrum.
36 (UKJV) Neither shall you swear by your head, because you can not make one hair white or black.

37 (VUL) Sit autem sermo vester: “Est, est”, “Non, non”; quod autem his abundantius est, a Malo est.
37 (UKJV) "But let your communication (o. logos) be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil. "

38 (VUL) Audistis quia dictum est: "Oculum pro oculo et dentem pro dente".
38 (UKJV) All of you have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:

39 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Non resistere malo; sed si quis te percusserit in dextera maxilla tua, praebe illi et alteram;
39 (UKJV) But I say unto you, That all of you resist not evil: but whosoever shall strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40 (VUL) et ei, qui vult tecum iudicio contendere et tunicam tuam tollere, remitte ei et pallium;
40 (UKJV) And if any man will sue you at the law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also.

41 (VUL) et quicumque te angariaverit mille passus, vade cum illo duo.
41 (UKJV) And whosoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him two.

42 (VUL) Qui petit a te, da ei; et volenti mutuari a te, ne avertaris.
42 (UKJV) Give to him that asks you, and from him that would borrow of you turn not you away.

43 (VUL) Audistis quia dictum est: "Diliges proximum tuum et odio habebis inimicum tuum".
43 (UKJV) All of you have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbour, and hate your enemy.

44 (VUL) Ego autem dico vobis: Diligite inimicos vestros et orate pro persequentibus vos,
44 (UKJV) "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; "

45 (VUL) ut sitis filii Patris vestri, qui in caelis est, quia solem suum oriri facit super malos et bonos et pluit super iustos et iniustos.
45 (UKJV) That all of you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 (VUL) Si enim dilexeritis eos, qui vos diligunt, quam mercedem habetis? Nonne et publicani hoc faciunt?
46 (UKJV) For if all of you love them which love you, what reward have all of you? do not even the publicans the same?

47 (VUL) Et si salutaveritis fratres vestros tantum, quid amplius facitis? Nonne et ethnici hoc faciunt?
47 (UKJV) And if all of you salute your brethren only, what do all of you more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 (VUL) Estote ergo vos perfecti, sicut Pater vester caelestis perfectus est.
48 (UKJV) Be all of you therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Si enim dilexeritis eos, qui vos diligunt, quam mercedem habetis? Nonne et publicani hoc faciunt?

Mt 5,1 - Jeden z vrchov pri Kafarnaume.

Mt 5,2 - Reč na vrchu obsahuje podstatné učenie o kresťanskej dokonalosti.

Mt 5,3-12 - Lk 6, 20–23.

Mt 5,3 - "Chudobní v duchu" sú tí, čo nelipnú nezriadene na pozemských bohatstvách a vo svojich časných starostiach a biedach sa s dôverou obracajú na Boha, od ktorého očakávajú svoju spásu. Jedine takí sú schopní prijať nebeské kráľovstvo.

Mt 5,5 - "Zem" je prisľúbená zem. V duchovnom zmysle večná blaženosť, nebeská vlasť. "Tichí" vedia vládnuť nad sebou.

Mt 5,13 - Soľ zachováva pokrmy (hlavne mäso) a dáva im chuť. Apoštoli (ale aj kresťania vôbec) majú zachrániť ľudí pred mravnou skazou a robiť ich milými pred Bohom.

Mt 5,16 - "Zákon a Proroci" je stručné označenie pre celý Starý zákon.

Mt 5,18 - Lk 17, 17.Starý zákon má význam aj v Novom zákone. Z neho napr. poznáme Božiu dobrotu a starostlivosť v diele stvorenia, pád do hriechu, potrebu vykúpenia a prípravu na príchod Mesiáša.

Mt 5,20 - "Spravodlivosť zákonníkov a farizejov" spočívala iba v bezduchom vonkajšom zachovávaní Mojžišovho zákona. Kresťan sa má usilovať zachovávať to, čo vyžaduje duch a obsah príkazu.

Mt 5,21 - Ex 20, 13; 21, 12.

Mt 5,22 - Piate prikázanie v starozákonnom znení zakazovalo iba skutok vraždy. Pán Ježiš toto prikázanie zdokonaľuje tak, že ho rozširuje aj na myšlienky, túžby a slová.

Mt 5,25-26 - Porov. Lk 12, 56–59.

Mt 5,27 - Ex 20, 14.

Mt 5,28 - Pri úplnom vedomí a s vnútornou túžbou dať súhlas na nečistý skutok je ťažkým previnením proti čistote.

Mt 5,29-32 - Porov. Mk 9, 43–47; 10, 11–12; Lk 16, 18.

Mt 5,29-30 - Týmito výrazmi vyjadruje nezmieriteľný postoj k hriechu.

Mt 5,31 - Dt 24, 1.

Mt 5,32 - "Okrem prípadu smilstva" – ide tu o nelegálne manželstvo.

Mt 5,33 - Lv 19, 12.

Mt 5,34 - Nm 30, 3.

Mt 5,38-42 - Lk 6, 29–30.

Mt 5,38 - Ex 21, 24; Lv 24, 20 n.

Mt 5,39 - Uvedené príklady neznamenajú, že máme nechať voľnú cestu šíreniu zla. Naopak – je to požiadavka, aby sme proti zlu bojovali láskou, dobrotou.

Mt 5,41 - Míľa = asi 1,5 km.

Mt 5,43-48 - Porov. Lk 6, 27–28; 32–33.

Mt 5,43 - Lv 19, 18."… a nenávidieť svojho nepriateľa" nie je v Starom zákone. Ale tak vyučovali pravdepodobne zákonníci. Láska k nepriateľovi je čisto kresťanská náuka. Lebo hoci v Mojžišovom zákone bol daný príkaz milovať blížneho (Lv 19, 18), vysvetľovalo sa to tak, že treba milovať len súkmeňovcov, teda Židov, iných už nie.

Mt 5,48 - Pán Ježiš tu kladie pred zrak svojich poslucháčov dokonalosť nebeského Otca síce ako nedosiahnuteľný ideál, ale chce ich tým vyzvať na neustále úsilie o dokonalosť.
