1 (HEM) וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃
1 (UKJV) And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
2 (HEM) דבר אל בני ישראל לאמר אשה כי תזריע וילדה זכר וטמאה שבעת ימים כימי נדת דותה תטמא׃
2 (UKJV) "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a male child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. "
3 (HEM) וביום השמיני ימול בשר ערלתו׃
3 (UKJV) And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
4 (HEM) ושלשים יום ושלשת ימים תשב בדמי טהרה בכל קדש לא תגע ואל המקדש לא תבא עד מלאת ימי טהרה׃
4 (UKJV) "And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled. "
5 (HEM) ואם נקבה תלד וטמאה שבעים כנדתה וששים יום וששת ימים תשב על דמי טהרה׃
5 (UKJV) But if she bear a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.
6 (HEM) ובמלאת ימי טהרה לבן או לבת תביא כבש בן שנתו לעלה ובן יונה או תר לחטאת אל פתח אהל מועד אל הכהן׃
6 (UKJV) And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:
7 (HEM) והקריבו לפני יהוה וכפר עליה וטהרה ממקר דמיה זאת תורת הילדת לזכר או לנקבה׃
7 (UKJV) "Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that has born a male or a female. "
8 (HEM) ואם לא תמצא ידה די שה ולקחה שתי תרים או שני בני יונה אחד לעלה ואחד לחטאת וכפר עליה הכהן וטהרה׃
8 (UKJV) "And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean. "

וביום השמיני ימול בשר ערלתו׃
Gn 17:12 - ובן שמנת ימים ימול לכם כל זכר לדרתיכם יליד בית ומקנת כסף מכל בן נכר אשר לא מזרעך הוא׃
Lk 1:59 - ויהי ביום השמיני ויבאו למול את הילד ויקראו אתו זכריה על שם אביו׃
Lk 2:21 - ויהי במלאת לנער שמנה ימים וימול ויקרא שמו ישוע כשם אשר קרא לו המלאך בטרם הרה בבטן׃
Jn 7:22 - משה נתן לכם המילה אך לא ממשה היא כי אם מן האבות וביום השבת תמולו כל זכר׃
Lv 12,1-5 - Nečistota rodičky nebola mravnou nečistotou, je to len obradná, čiže levitská nečistota. Pôrodné bolesti pripomínali prvý hriech, za ktorý Eva dostala trest v bolesti rodiť deti (Gn 3,16). Boh týmto zákonom chcel upozorňovať na prvý hriech a na jeho následky: odlúčenie od Boha, smrť a rozličné biedy a strasti. Narodenie dieťaťa bolo radosťou, bezdetnosť sa považovala za trest.
Lv 12,6-8 - Pre porodenie alebo počatie matka nemohla byť považovaná za duševne nečistú. Pojem jej nečistoty mal vzťah jedine na jej telesný stav (15,19–24). – Za sedem dní bola nečistá a poškvrňovala všetko, čoho sa len dotkla. V ďalších 33 dňoch stala sa jej nečistota obyčajnou, nesmela sa dotknúť posvätnej veci alebo priblížiť sa k svätostánku. Keď porodila dievča, táto nečistota trvala časove dvojnásobne. Celostnou žertvou sa ďakovalo za dieťa. Hrdlička alebo holúbok prinášali sa za hriech, nie však za osobný, teda mravný priestupok, ale za obradný nedostatok, za pôrod a telesný stav po pôrode, čo vnútorne nebolo nijako hriešne. Túto obetu priniesla aj Panna Mária (Lk 2,24).
