1 (KJV) Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
1 (B21) Slyšte slovo Hospodinovo, synové Izraele, Hospodin má žalobu na obyvatele země: V této zemi není věrnost ani láska a nikdo nezná Boha.
2 (KJV) By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
2 (B21) Jen samé kletby, lži a vraždění, zlodějství a cizoložení - rozmáhá se to víc a víc, jedno krveprolití za druhým!
3 (KJV) Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
3 (B21) To proto země uvadá a každý její obyvatel je vyčerpán; polní zvěř i ptáci na nebi hynou společně s mořskými rybami.
4 (KJV) Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
4 (B21) Ať si však nikdo nestěžuje, nikdo ať nikoho neobviňuje - vždyť jsi to, knězi, právě ty, na koho tu teď žaluji.
5 (KJV) Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
5 (B21) Potácíš se ve dne jako za noci a s tebou se potácejí také proroci; hubíš svůj vlastní lid
6 (KJV) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
6 (B21) a můj lid hyne bez špetky poznání. Protožes odmítl poznání, i já tě odmítnu od kněžství; na Zákon svého Boha nedbal jsi, ani já nebudu dbát na tvé potomky.
7 (KJV) As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
7 (B21) Jak se rozmáhali víc a víc, tím více proti mně hřešili; svou Slávu nahradili mrzkostí.
8 (KJV) They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
8 (B21) Živí se oběťmi mého lidu za hřích, dychtivě baží po jejich špatnosti.
9 (KJV) And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
9 (B21) Kněz proto dopadne tak jako lid - budu je trestat za jejich způsoby, za jejich skutky jim odplatím!
10 (KJV) For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.
10 (B21) Budou jíst, ale nenasytí se, budou smilnit, ale nerozmnoží se, protože opustili Hospodina a pustili se
11 (KJV) Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
11 (B21) do smilstva. Kvůli vínu, kvůli burčáku přišli o rozum!
12 (KJV) My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.
12 (B21) Můj lid se radí se dřevem, nějaká hůlka jim dává předpověď; dali se obloudit duchem smilstva, smilně opustili svého Boha.
13 (KJV) They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.
13 (B21) Obětují na horských vrcholech, na pahorcích kouří kadidlem, pod dubem, topolem, pod mohutným stromem, v jejichž stínu je tak příjemně. Ačkoli vaše dcery smilní a vaše snachy cizoloží,
14 (KJV) I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.
14 (B21) nebudu trestat vaše smilné dcery ani ty vaše cizoložné snachy - vždyť jsou to muži, kdo chodí za nevěstkami a konají oběti s těmi kněžkami. Špatně dopadne ten tupý lid!
15 (KJV) Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth.
15 (B21) Jestliže, Izraeli, smilníš ty, ať aspoň Juda nehřeší! Proto nechoďte do Gilgalu, neputujte do Bet-avenu, zdržte se přísahy: "Jakože žije Hospodin!"
16 (KJV) For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
16 (B21) Izrael se umíněně vzpírá jako umíněná kráva. Jak ho má Hospodin teď nechat pást svobodně jako beránka?
17 (KJV) Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.
17 (B21) Efraim se spřáhl s modlami - nech ho být!
18 (KJV) Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
18 (B21) Když už je pití vypito, vrhnou se na smilstvo; ti, kdo jsou lidu záštitou, chovají v lásce zkaženost.
19 (KJV) The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
19 (B21) Vítr je svými křídly zachvátí, budou se stydět za své oběti!

Verš 1
Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Mi 6:2 - Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.
Verš 10
For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD.
Mi 6:14 - Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.

Oz 5:4 - They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the LORD.
Verš 13
They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.
Iz 57:7 - Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
Ez 20:28 - For when I had brought them into the land, for the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
Iz 1:29 - For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
Verš 9
And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
Iz 24:2 - And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
Oz 4,1-7 - Tu prorok opisuje vinu a trest domu Izraela a vymenúva rozličné hriechy a previnenia synov Izraela, ku ktorým hovorí.
Oz 4,3 - Pre človeka aj nerozumné tvorstvo pociťuje Boží hnev.
Oz 4,4 - Nik nemá právo Bohu vyčitovať, že prísne súdi. Kňaz je prostredník medzi Bohom a ľuďmi; neposlúchnuť ho pokladal zákon za ťažký zločin (Dt 17,12).
Oz 4,5 - Verš je nejasný, jeho zmysel je asi: Zahynie, a to čoskoro, ľud, falošní proroci, ba celý národ, ktorý náš prorok volá matkou. Falošní proroci zavinili z veľkej čiastky nemravnosť ľudu, preto ich pád bude ťažší, čo náš prorok vyjadruje tým, že padnú v noci.
Oz 4,6 - Výčitka patrí celému národu: pretože odmietol poznanie Pána, prestane byť kňazským národom (porov. Ex 19,6). Izrael konal kňazskú službu, lebo mal byť prostredníkom medzi Bohom a ostatnými národmi.
Oz 4,8 - Je tu reč o kňazoch Severnej ríše. Všetky obety v tejto ríši boli hriešne, lebo jediným obetným miestom pre Izraelitov bol jeruzalemský chrám. Kňazi jednako napomáhali tieto obety, aby sa mohli z nich živiť; živili sa teda z hriechov ľudu, preto ich stihne ten istý trest, čo aj ľud.
Oz 4,11 - Modloslužba a s ňou spojené neresti natoľko odobrali Izraelitom rozum, že chcú veštby od svojich drevených bohov a veštia pomocou akýchsi paličiek (robdomantia; porov. aj Ez 21,26).
Oz 4,13 - Porov. Jer 2,20.
Oz 4,14 - Dcéry a nevesty, pravda, neostanú bez trestu. No väčšia je vina otcov a mužov, lebo od nich sa aj ony naučili hriechu. O pobehliciach svätýň pozri pozn. k 1 Kr 14,24.
Oz 4,15 - Mravný stav Izraela je beznádejný, preto prorok oslovuje Južné kráľovstvo, Júdsko, aby aspoň ono nepáchalo modloslužbu. Galgala a Betaven boli strediskami modloslužby. Dve mestá mali meno Galgala. O jednom pozri pozn. k 1 Sam 7,16, o druhom 1 Sam 10,8. Nevedno, o ktorom z týchto miest je tu reč. – Betaven je zmenené meno Betelu (dnešný Betin, asi 15 km severne od Jeruzalema). Meno Betel znamená "Dom Boha" (porov. Gn 28,10; 35,14). Jeroboam I. dal však postaviť v tomto meste zlaté teľa, preto ho prorok volá Betaven=Dom hriechu. – Boh nechce, aby modlári vyslovovali pri prísahe jeho meno.
Oz 4,17 - Ešte vždy pokračuje výzva k Júdsku, pozri v. 15.
