Kniha proroka Daniela

1 (CPDV) In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it.
1 (KAT) V treťom roku panovania júdskeho kráľa Joakima prišiel babylonský kráľ Nabuchodonozor k Jeruzalemu a obliehal ho.

2 (CPDV) And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim the king of Judah and a portion of the vessels of the house of God. And he carried them away into the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and he brought the vessels into the treasure chamber of his god.
2 (KAT) Pán mu vydal do ruky júdskeho kráľa Joakima a čiastku náradia Božieho domu, odniesol ich do krajiny Senaár, do domu svojho boha; nádoby zaniesol do klenotnice svojho boha.

3 (CPDV) And the king told Ashpenaz, the chief of the eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the sons of Israel, and some of the offspring of the king and of the sovereigns:
3 (KAT) Vtedy povedal kráľ Asfenezovi, svojmu veliteľovi eunuchov, aby zo synov Izraela, z kráľovského potomstva a spomedzi vznešených, priviedol

4 (CPDV) young men, in whom there was no blemish, noble in appearance, and accomplished in all wisdom, cautious in knowledge, and well-educated, and who could stand in the palace of the king, so that he might teach them the letters and the language of the Chaldeans.
4 (KAT) mladíkov, na ktorých niet nijakej chyby, pekného zovňajšku, vnímavých pre každú múdrosť, vystrojených znalosťami a chápavých na vedomosti, ktorí by boli schopní stáť v kráľovskom paláci; a aby ich naučil chaldejskému písmu a reči.

5 (CPDV) And the king appointed for them provisions for each day, from his own food and from the wine which he himself drank, so that, after being nourished for three years, they would stand in the sight of the king.
5 (KAT) Kráľ im na každý deň pridelil z kráľovského pokrmu a z vína, ktoré jemu slúžilo za nápoj, aby ich tri roky vychovávali a po ich uplynutí mali stáť pred kráľovou tvárou.

6 (CPDV) Now, among those of the sons of Judah, there were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
6 (KAT) Spomedzi Júdových synov boli medzi nimi Daniel, Ananiáš, Mízael a Azariáš.

7 (CPDV) And the chief of the eunuchs assigned names to them: to Daniel, Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
7 (KAT) Veliteľ eunuchov im dal mená: Danielovi Baltazár, Ananiášovi Sidrach, Mízaelovi Misach a Azariášovi Abdenago.

8 (CPDV) But Daniel resolved in his heart that he would not be polluted with the king’s meal, nor with the wine he drank, and he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not be contaminated.
8 (KAT) Daniel si však zaumienil v srdci, že sa nepoškvrní kráľovým pokrmom ani vínom, ktoré píjal; prosil teda veliteľa eunuchov, aby sa nemusel poškvrniť.

9 (CPDV) And so God gave Daniel grace and mercy in the sight of the leader of the eunuchs.
9 (KAT) A Boh spôsobil, že Daniel našiel milosť a priazeň u veliteľa eunuchov.

10 (CPDV) And the leader of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed food and drink for you, who, if he should see that your faces are leaner than those of the other youths your age, you would condemn my head to the king.”
10 (KAT) Ale veliteľ eunuchov povedal Danielovi: „Bojím sa, že môj pán, kráľ, ktorý vám vydelil váš pokrm a nápoj, uvidí, že ste v tvári chudší, ako iní chlapci, vaši vrstovníci, a uvalíte mi pred kráľom vinu na hlavu.“

11 (CPDV) And Daniel said to Malasar, whom the leader of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
11 (KAT) Vtedy Daniel povedal Malasarovi, ktorého veliteľ eunuchov postavil nad Daniela, Ananiáša, Mízaela a Azariáša:

12 (CPDV) “I beg you to test us, your servants, for ten days, and let roots be given to us to eat and water to drink,
12 (KAT) „Skús to so svojimi sluhami desať dní. Nech nám dajú na jedlo lúšteniny a na pitie vodu;

13 (CPDV) and then observe our faces, and the faces of the children who eat the king’s food, and then deal with your servants according to what you see.”
13 (KAT) nech sa potom ukážu pred tebou naše tváre a tváre chlapcov, ktorí jedia z kráľovho pokrmu, a potom nalož so svojimi sluhami, ako sa ti bude vidieť.“

14 (CPDV) When he had heard these words, he tested them for ten days.
14 (KAT) Privolil im teda v tejto veci a skúšal ich desať dní.

15 (CPDV) But, after ten days, their faces appeared better and fatter than all the children who had eaten from the king’s food.
15 (KAT) Po desiatich dňoch sa ukázalo, že ich tváre sú krajšie a telá tučnejšie ako všetkých chlapcov, ktorí jedli z kráľovho pokrmu.

16 (CPDV) Thereafter, Malasar took away their portions and their wine for drinking, and he gave them roots.
16 (KAT) Malasar im teda odňal pokrm a vína, ktoré mali piť, a dával im lúšteniny.

17 (CPDV) Yet, to these children, God gave knowledge and instruction in every book, and wisdom, but to Daniel, also the understanding of all visions and dreams.
17 (KAT) Týmto štyrom mladíkom dal však Boh znalosť a pochop v každom písme a múdrosti. Daniel zas porozumel každé videnie a sen.

18 (CPDV) And when the time was completed, after which the king had said that they would be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before the sight of Nebuchadnezzar.
18 (KAT) A po uplynutí dní, ktoré do ich predstavenia určil kráľ, predviedol ich veliteľ eunuchov pred Nabuchodonozora.

19 (CPDV) And, when the king conversed with them, there had not been found any so great in all the world as Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and so they stood in the sight of the king.
19 (KAT) Kráľ sa s nimi rozprával a medzi všetkými nenašiel takých ako Daniel, Ananiáš, Mízael a Azariáš. Obsluhovali teda kráľa.

20 (CPDV) And in every concept of wisdom and understanding, about which the king consulted with them, he found them to be ten times better than all the seers and astrologers put together, who were in his entire kingdom.
20 (KAT) A vo všetkých veciach, (kde bolo treba) múdreho dôvtipu, na ktoré sa ich kráľ vypytoval, zistil, že sú desať ráz vyššie než všetci čarodeji a veštci, ktorí boli v celom jeho kráľovstve.

21 (CPDV) And so Daniel remained, even until the first year of king Cyrus.
21 (KAT) Daniel sa dožil až do prvého roku kráľa Kýra.
