1 Jer 47, 1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh stroke Gaza. 2 Jer 47, 2 "Thus says the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail. " 3 Jer 47, 3 "At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands; " 4 Jer 47, 4 Because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor. 5 Jer 47, 5 "Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself? " 6 Jer 47, 6 O you sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you be quiet? put up yourself into your scabbard, rest, and be still. 7 Jer 47, 7 How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there has he appointed it.

"At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands; "
Jer 4:13 - Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.
Jer 6:23 - "They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against you, O daughter of Zion. "
Iz 5:28 - Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

Because of the day that comes to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remains: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

"Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long will you cut yourself? "
Jer 25:20 - And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,
Dt 14:1 - All of you are the children of the LORD your God: all of you shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
Jer 16:6 - Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:
Jer 47,1 - Správu, že faraón v tomto čase porazil Gazu, nám história nezanechala. – O Gaze pozri pozn. k 1 Sam 6,17.
Jer 47,2 - Nepriateľom od severu sú Babylonci.
Jer 47,4 - Filištínci aj podľa Am 9,7 pochádzajú z ostrova Kaftor. Obyčajne stotožňujú tento ostrov s Krétou. Kréťania a Filištínci sa častejšie spomínajú vedľa seba (Ez 25,16; Sof 2,5).
Jer 47,5 - Plešina je znakom smútku. O Askalone pozri pozn. k 1 Sam 6,17. Slovo "Enakovci" prekladáme podľa LXX. Dnešná hebr. osnova a s ňou aj Vulg číta: "pozostatky ich údolia", čo nedáva dobrý zmysel. -Enakovci boli kmeňom obrov, praobyvateľov krajiny Filištíncov. Pochádzali od Enaka; porov. Joz 11,22. Tu však meno Enakovcov označuje ich nástupcov, Filištíncov. – O zárezoch na znak smútku pozri pozn. k 16,5-7.
Jer 47,7 - Krajina Filištíncov ležala na pobreží Stredozemného mora.
