1 (UKJV) "The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it comes from the desert, from a terrible land. "
1 (ROH) Bremä púšte mora, Babylona. Jako prechádzavajú víchrice na juhu, tak prijde od púšte, zo strašnej zeme.
2 (UKJV) "A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease. "
2 (ROH) Tvrdé videnie mi je oznámené: Neverný robí neverne, a zhubca hubí. Poď hore, Élame! Médsko, sovri! Učiním koniec všetkým jeho vzdychom, ktoré vynútil.
3 (UKJV) "Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that labors: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. "
3 (ROH) Pre tú príčinu sú moje bedrá plné bolesti; kŕče ma pochytily jako kŕče ženy, ktorá ide porodiť; svíjam sa od bolesti tak, že už ani nečujem; desím sa tak, že už ani nevidím.
4 (UKJV) My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure has he turned into fear unto me.
4 (ROH) Moje srdce prestáva biť; hrôza ma predesila; súmrak, po ktorom ináče túžim, obrátil mi v trasenie.
5 (UKJV) Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, all of you princes, and anoint the shield.
5 (ROH) Pripraviť stôl, strážiť stráž, jesť a piť! Vstaňte, kniežatá, pomažte štít!
6 (UKJV) For thus has the LORD said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees.
6 (ROH) Lebo takto mi povedal Pán: Idi, postav pozorujúceho strážneho, a čo uvidí, nech oznámi!
7 (UKJV) "And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed: "
7 (ROH) A videl jazdu, jazdcov na koňoch po dvoch v rade, jazdu na osloch a jazdu na veľblúdoch a načúval pozorne, veľmi pozorne.
8 (UKJV) And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
8 (ROH) A volal ako lev: Na pozorovateľni, Pane, stojím ustavične vodne a na svojej stráži stojím celé noci!
9 (UKJV) "And, behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken unto the ground. "
9 (ROH) A tu hľa, prišla jazda mužov, jazdcovia na koňoch po dvoch v rade. A odpovedajúc riekol: Padol, padol Babylon, a roztrieskali všetky rytiny jeho bohov a pometali ich na zem.
10 (UKJV) O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
10 (ROH) Ty, moje mlativo, dieťa môjho humna, čo som počul od Hospodina Zástupov, Boha Izraelovho, oznámil som vám.
11 (UKJV) The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
11 (ROH) Bremä Dúmy. Volajú na mňa zo Seira: Strážca, koľko je ešte noci? Strážca, koľko je ešte noci?
12 (UKJV) The watchman said, The morning comes, and also the night: if all of you will enquire, enquire all of you: return, come.
12 (ROH) Strážca povedal: Ide ráno, ale prijde zase aj noc. Jestli sa chcete pýtať, pýtajte sa; navráťte sa, prijdite!
13 (UKJV) The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall all of you lodge, O all of you travelling companies of Dedanim.
13 (ROH) Bremä na Arábii. Po lesoch v Arábii budete nocúvať, vy, karavány Dedáncov.
14 (UKJV) The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.
14 (ROH) Obyvatelia zeme Téma vústrety donesú smädnému vody; vyjdú oproti utekajúcemu so svojím chlebom.
15 (UKJV) For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
15 (ROH) Lebo budú utekať pred mečami, pred vytaseným mečom, pred natiahnutým lučišťom, pred tiažou boja.
16 (UKJV) For thus has the LORD said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of a worker, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:
16 (ROH) Lebo takto mi povedal Pán: Ešte za rok, aké sú roky nájomníka, a bude koniec všetkej sláve Kédara.
17 (UKJV) And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel has spoken it.
17 (ROH) Tých, ktorí pozostanú z počtu strelcov z lučíšť, z udatných mužov synov Kédara, bude málo, lebo Hospodin, Bôh Izraelov, to hovoril.

Verš 8
And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
Hab 2:1 - I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Verš 9
"And, behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken unto the ground. "
Jer 25:12 - And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, says the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
Jer 51:8 - "Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed. "
Zjv 14:8 - And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Zjv 18:2 - And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, (o. pneuma) and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Verš 4
My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure has he turned into fear unto me.
Jób 7:3 - So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Iz 21,1 - Nevieme, prečo volá prorok Babylon morskou púšťou.
Iz 21,2 - Boh sám povzbudzuje nepriateľov proti Babylonu, nad ktorého skazou je zdesený aj prorok sám. Ináč milej doby súmraku sa teraz bojí, lebo v noci je každá hrôza hroznejšia.
Iz 21,5 - Z hostiny budú musieť ísť Babylonci rovno do boja.
Iz 21,6-9 - Verše 6–9 sú nejasné. Treba im rozumieť asi tak, že prorok celý deň a celú noc pozoruje, ako tiahne vojsko proti Babylonu. Vtom "ktosi", najskôr sám Boh (porov. verš 10), oznámi prorokovi pád Babylonu.
Iz 21,10 - "Rozmlátený, rozdrvený" národ sú Izraeliti, ktorí budú v babylonskom zajatí a ktorým pád Babylonu bude znamenať oslobodenie.
Iz 21,11-12 - Seir je pohorie v Edomsku. Edomčania sa dopytujú strážcu, proroka, na svoj osud. Prorok vidí v ich budúcnosti záblesky rána, šťastia, ale aj noc nových utrpení. Dúfa, že dostane o ich osude jasnejšie videnie, preto ich žiada, aby sa znovu vrátili k nemu. Toto je asi zmysel tohto krátkeho a nejasného proroctva.
Iz 21,13-17 - V proroctve proti Arabom sa spomínajú len dva arabské kmene: Dedančania a Kedarania. Arabi sa budú pred nepriateľom schovávať na púšti, kde im obyvatelia Temy (mesto východne od Elamského zálivu) poskytnú pokrm a nápoj. O roku žoldniera pozri 16,14.
