1 (KJV) The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.
1 (B21) Ortel nad Pustinou u moře: Jako se na jihu prohání vichřice, útočník přijde z pouště, ze země strašlivé.
2 (KJV) A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.
2 (B21) Bylo mi zjeveno kruté vidění: Zrádce zrazuje, zhoubce hubí. Přitáhni, Elame; Méde, oblehni! Všemu úpění konec učiním.
3 (KJV) Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.
3 (B21) Proto se mi břicho svírá úzkostí, jako by mě zachvátily porodní bolesti. Skličuje mě to, co slyším, to, co vidím, mě děsí!
4 (KJV) My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.
4 (B21) Srdce se mi chvěje v hrudi, celý se třesu strachy. Vytoužený noční klid proměnil se mi v zděšení!
5 (KJV) Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.
5 (B21) Plné stoly. Prostřené ubrusy. Jídlo. Pití. - Vstávejte, velitelé! Chystejte štíty do války!
6 (KJV) For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.
6 (B21) Toto mi řekl Pán: "Jdi hlídku postavit, ať ohlásí, co uvidí!
7 (KJV) And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:
7 (B21) Spatří-li jezdce, jak po dvou blíží se, jezdce na oslech, jezdce na velbloudech - ať je sleduje pozorně, velmi pozorně!"
8 (KJV) And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
8 (B21) A strážný zvolal: "Na stráži, pane, stojím den co den, každičkou noc jsem na hlídce.
9 (KJV) And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
9 (B21) Hle, vidím jezdce přijíždět, dvojice mužů blíží se!" Pak přišel se zprávou: "Padl, padl Babylon! Všechny sochy jeho bohů leží roztříštěné v prachu!"
10 (KJV) O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.
10 (B21) Můj lide drcený jako zrno na mlatu, ohlásil jsem vám, co jsem uslyšel od Hospodina zástupů, od Boha Izraele.
11 (KJV) The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
11 (B21) Ortel nad Dumou: Ze Seíru slyším volání: "Strážný, jak dlouho bude noc? Strážný, jak dlouho bude noc?"
12 (KJV) The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire ye: return, come.
12 (B21) A strážný odpoví: "Přichází ráno, ale také noc. Chcete-li se ptát, ptejte se, vraťte se a přijďte sem!"
13 (KJV) The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.
13 (B21) Ortel nad Arábií: Vy karavany dedanské, jež nocujete v arabské pustině,
14 (KJV) The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.
14 (B21) žíznivým vodu přineste! Vy, kteří žijete v Temě, vítejte uprchlíky chlebem!
15 (KJV) For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.
15 (B21) Prchají přece před mečem, před taseným mečem, před napjatým lukem, před ukrutným bojem!
16 (KJV) For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:
16 (B21) Toto mi řekl Pán: "Po roce, jako by ten rok počítal nádeník, všechna sláva Kedaru zanikne
17 (KJV) And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.
17 (B21) a z celého množství hrdinných kedarských lučištníků zbude jen nepatrný pozůstatek." Tak promluvil Hospodin, Bůh Izraele.

Verš 8
And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:
Hab 2:1 - I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Verš 9
And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.
Jer 25:12 - And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
Jer 51:8 - Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed.
Zjv 14:8 - And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
Zjv 18:2 - And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Verš 4
My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.
Jób 7:3 - So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
Iz 21,1 - Nevieme, prečo volá prorok Babylon morskou púšťou.
Iz 21,2 - Boh sám povzbudzuje nepriateľov proti Babylonu, nad ktorého skazou je zdesený aj prorok sám. Ináč milej doby súmraku sa teraz bojí, lebo v noci je každá hrôza hroznejšia.
Iz 21,5 - Z hostiny budú musieť ísť Babylonci rovno do boja.
Iz 21,6-9 - Verše 6–9 sú nejasné. Treba im rozumieť asi tak, že prorok celý deň a celú noc pozoruje, ako tiahne vojsko proti Babylonu. Vtom "ktosi", najskôr sám Boh (porov. verš 10), oznámi prorokovi pád Babylonu.
Iz 21,10 - "Rozmlátený, rozdrvený" národ sú Izraeliti, ktorí budú v babylonskom zajatí a ktorým pád Babylonu bude znamenať oslobodenie.
Iz 21,11-12 - Seir je pohorie v Edomsku. Edomčania sa dopytujú strážcu, proroka, na svoj osud. Prorok vidí v ich budúcnosti záblesky rána, šťastia, ale aj noc nových utrpení. Dúfa, že dostane o ich osude jasnejšie videnie, preto ich žiada, aby sa znovu vrátili k nemu. Toto je asi zmysel tohto krátkeho a nejasného proroctva.
Iz 21,13-17 - V proroctve proti Arabom sa spomínajú len dva arabské kmene: Dedančania a Kedarania. Arabi sa budú pred nepriateľom schovávať na púšti, kde im obyvatelia Temy (mesto východne od Elamského zálivu) poskytnú pokrm a nápoj. O roku žoldniera pozri 16,14.
