1 (CPDV) The burden of the desert of the sea. Just as the whirlwinds approach from Africa, it approaches from the desert, from a terrible land.
1 (KAT) Výrok nad morskou púšťou: Ako víchrice, ktoré tiahnu juhom, tak príde z púšte, z hroznej krajiny.
2 (CPDV) A difficult vision has been announced to me: he who is unbelieving, he acts unfaithfully, and he who is a plunderer, he devastates. Ascend, O Elam! Lay siege, O Media! I have caused all its mourning to cease.
2 (KAT) Bolo mi zjavené kruté videnie: Lupič lúpi, ničiteľ ničí. „Hor’ sa, Elam! Zvieraj, Méd! Všetkej ich kviľbe koniec urobím.“

8 (CPDV) And a lion cried out: “I am on the watchtower of the Lord, standing continually by day. And I am at my station, standing throughout the night.
8 (KAT) I zvolal: „Vidím. Na hliadke, Pane, stojím vo dne stále, na svojej stráži ja stojím celú noc.
9 (CPDV) Behold, a certain man approaches, a man riding on a two-horse chariot.” And he responded, and he said: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! And all its graven gods have been crushed into the earth!
9 (KAT) Hľa, idú jazdci, dvojice koní.“ I ozve sa a hovorí: „Padol, padol Babylon, všetky sošky jeho bohov roztrieskal na zemi.“
10 (CPDV) O my threshed grain! O sons of my threshing floor! What I have heard from the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, I have announced to you.”
10 (KAT) Môj rozmlátený, môj rozdrvený ľud, čo som počul od Pána zástupov, Boha Izraela, to som vám oznámil.
11 (CPDV) The burden of Dumah, cried out to me from Seir: “Watchman, how goes the night? Watchman, how goes the night?”

12 (CPDV) The watchman said: “Morning approaches with the night. If you are seeking: seek, and convert, and approach.”
12 (KAT) Strážca povedal: „Príde ráno, ale aj noc. Ak sa dozvedáte, dozvedajte sa, vráťte sa znovu!“
13 (CPDV) The burden in Arabia. In the forest you shall sleep, in the evening on the paths of Dedanim.

15 (KAT) Lebo ušli pred mečom, pred vytaseným mečom a pred natiahnutou kušou, pred ťažkým bojom.
16 (CPDV) For the Lord said this to me: “After one more year, just like one year for a hired hand, all the glory of Kedar will be taken away.
16 (KAT) Lebo takto hovorí Pán ku mne: „Ešte za rok, ako rok žoldniera, a zahynie všetka sláva Kedaru,
17 (CPDV) And the remainder of the multitude of strong archers from the sons of Kedar will be few, for the Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken it.”
17 (KAT) zvyšok z počtu lukov hrdinských synov Kedaru bude malý,“ lebo to riekol Pán, Boh Izraela.

Verš 8
And a lion cried out: “I am on the watchtower of the Lord, standing continually by day. And I am at my station, standing throughout the night.
Hab 2:1 - I will stand firm during my watch, and fix my position over the fortification. And I will observe carefully, to see what might be said to me and what I might respond to my opponent.
Verš 9
Behold, a certain man approaches, a man riding on a two-horse chariot.” And he responded, and he said: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon! And all its graven gods have been crushed into the earth!
Jer 25:12 - And when the seventy years have been completed, I will visit their iniquity upon the king of Babylon, and upon that nation, and upon the land of the Chaldeans, says the Lord. And I will set it in continual desolations.
Jer 51:8 - Suddenly, Babylon has fallen and been crushed. Wail over her! Take a balm to her pain, if perhaps she may be healed.”
Zjv 14:8 - And another Angel followed, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, who inebriated all nations with the wine of her wrath and of fornication.”
Zjv 18:2 - And he cried out with strength, saying: “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great. And she has become the habitation of demons, and the keepsake of every unclean spirit, and the possession of every unclean and hateful flying thing.
Verš 4
My heart withered. The darkness stupefied me. 406 Babylon, my beloved, has become a wonder to me.
Jób 7:3 - so also have I had empty months and have counted my burdensome nights.
Iz 21,1 - Nevieme, prečo volá prorok Babylon morskou púšťou.
Iz 21,2 - Boh sám povzbudzuje nepriateľov proti Babylonu, nad ktorého skazou je zdesený aj prorok sám. Ináč milej doby súmraku sa teraz bojí, lebo v noci je každá hrôza hroznejšia.
Iz 21,5 - Z hostiny budú musieť ísť Babylonci rovno do boja.
Iz 21,6-9 - Verše 6–9 sú nejasné. Treba im rozumieť asi tak, že prorok celý deň a celú noc pozoruje, ako tiahne vojsko proti Babylonu. Vtom "ktosi", najskôr sám Boh (porov. verš 10), oznámi prorokovi pád Babylonu.
Iz 21,10 - "Rozmlátený, rozdrvený" národ sú Izraeliti, ktorí budú v babylonskom zajatí a ktorým pád Babylonu bude znamenať oslobodenie.
Iz 21,11-12 - Seir je pohorie v Edomsku. Edomčania sa dopytujú strážcu, proroka, na svoj osud. Prorok vidí v ich budúcnosti záblesky rána, šťastia, ale aj noc nových utrpení. Dúfa, že dostane o ich osude jasnejšie videnie, preto ich žiada, aby sa znovu vrátili k nemu. Toto je asi zmysel tohto krátkeho a nejasného proroctva.
Iz 21,13-17 - V proroctve proti Arabom sa spomínajú len dva arabské kmene: Dedančania a Kedarania. Arabi sa budú pred nepriateľom schovávať na púšti, kde im obyvatelia Temy (mesto východne od Elamského zálivu) poskytnú pokrm a nápoj. O roku žoldniera pozri 16,14.
