1 (HEM) על משכבי בלילות בקשתי את שאהבה נפשי בקשתיו ולא מצאתיו׃
1 (UKJV) By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.
2 (HEM) אקומה נא ואסובבה בעיר בשוקים וברחבות אבקשה את שאהבה נפשי בקשתיו ולא מצאתיו׃
2 (UKJV) I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves: I sought him, but I found him not.
3 (HEM) מצאוני השמרים הסבבים בעיר את שאהבה נפשי ראיתם׃
3 (UKJV) The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw all of you him whom my soul loves?
4 (HEM) כמעט שעברתי מהם עד שמצאתי את שאהבה נפשי אחזתיו ולא ארפנו עד שהביאתיו אל בית אמי ואל חדר הורתי׃
4 (UKJV) It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loves: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.
5 (HEM) השבעתי אתכם בנות ירושלם בצבאות או באילות השדה אם תעירו ואם תעוררו את האהבה עד שתחפץ׃
5 (UKJV) I charge you, O all of you daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that all of you stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.
6 (HEM) מי זאת עלה מן המדבר כתימרות עשן מקטרת מור ולבונה מכל אבקת רוכל׃
6 (UKJV) Who is this that comes out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?
7 (HEM) הנה מטתו שלשלמה ששים גברים סביב לה מגברי ישראל׃
7 (UKJV) "Behold his bed, which is Solomon's; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel. "
8 (HEM) כלם אחזי חרב מלמדי מלחמה איש חרבו על ירכו מפחד בלילות׃
8 (UKJV) They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man has his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.
9 (HEM) אפריון עשה לו המלך שלמה מעצי הלבנון׃
9 (UKJV) King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.
10 (HEM) עמודיו עשה כסף רפידתו זהב מרכבו ארגמן תוכו רצוף אהבה מבנות ירושלם׃
10 (UKJV) He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.
11 (HEM) צאינה וראינה בנות ציון במלך שלמה בעטרה שעטרה לו אמו ביום חתנתו וביום שמחת לבו׃
11 (UKJV) Go forth, O all of you daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

אפריון עשה לו המלך שלמה מעצי הלבנון׃
Pie 6:12 - לא ידעתי נפשי שמתני מרכבות עמי נדיב׃

מי זאת עלה מן המדבר כתימרות עשן מקטרת מור ולבונה מכל אבקת רוכל׃
Pie 8:5 - מי זאת עלה מן המדבר מתרפקת על דודה תחת התפוח עוררתיך שמה חבלתך אמך שמה חבלה ילדתך׃
Pies 3,1-4 - Myšlienky a túžby, ktorými sa snúbenica zapodieva, vyjadruje básnik dramatickým dejom. Opísané udalosti nie sú teda skutočnosťou, ale nie sú ani iba snom.
Pies 3,6 - Nevestu do ženíchovho domu prenášajú na Východe po sobáši na mrku, ba niekedy až za tmy. Priatelia a ženíchovi vrstovníci tvoria sprievod, v noci, pravda, s čadiacimi pochodňami. Nosidlá, čo pošle pre nevestu ženích, v hlučnom zástupe sú celkom zahalené do vonného dymu. Sprievod hučí nielen sobášnymi, lež aj bojovými piesňami, ba zamieša sa do nich zavše štrngot zbraní. V niektorých krajinách ešte aj dnes mávajú na sobášoch ozbrojený sprievod, aby sa tak zvýšil ich lesk. Zíde sa však zbraň v noci i proti nečakaným násilenstvám lúpežníkov.
Pies 3,9 - Šalamún, kráľ, je tu názov pre ženícha, kým trvá svadba. Libanonské drevo značí vzácny céder.
Pies 3,10 - Purpur – látka tmavočerveného zafarbenia. Eben – vzácne čierne drevo.
Pies 3,11 - Sion – pahorok v Jeruzaleme. Šalamún – ženích. Za starých časov na Východe venčievali ženícha. Tento veniec bol tou jeho "korunou", kým on bol "kráľom".
