1 (HEM) מי כהחכם ומי יודע פשר דבר חכמת אדם תאיר פניו ועז פניו ישנא׃
1 (VUL) Quis talis, ut sapiens est? Et quis cognovit solutionem re rum? Sapientia hominis illuminat vultum eius, et durities faciei illius commutatur.
1 (KAT) Ktože sa vyrovná múdremu? Kto vie dať vysvetlenie na záhadu? Múdrosť zasvieti človeku na tvári a tvrdosť jeho tváre sa zmení.
1 (UKJV) Who is as the wise man? and who knows the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom makes his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

2 (HEM) אני פי מלך שמור ועל דברת שבועת אלהים׃
2 (VUL) Os regis observa et propter iuramenta Dei
2 (KAT) Pozoruj ústa kráľa a pre Božiu prísahu
2 (UKJV) I counsel you to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.

3 (HEM) אל תבהל מפניו תלך אל תעמד בדבר רע כי כל אשר יחפץ יעשה׃
3 (VUL) ne festines recedere a facie eius neque permaneas in re mala, quia omne, quod voluerit, faciet.
3 (KAT) sa neponáhľaj odísť spred jeho tváre, ani sa nezastavuj pri zlej veci, lebo (kráľ) ti môže urobiť všetko, čo sa mu len zachce.
3 (UKJV) "Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he does whatsoever pleases him. "

4 (HEM) באשר דבר מלך שלטון ומי יאמר לו מה תעשה׃
4 (VUL) Quia sermo illius potestate plenus est, nec dicere ei quisquam potest: “ Quare ita facis? ”.
4 (KAT) Čo raz kráľ povie, to má svoju platnosť; veď kto by mu aj povedal: „Čo to robíš?“
4 (UKJV) Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What do you?

5 (HEM) שומר מצוה לא ידע דבר רע ועת ומשפט ידע לב חכם׃
5 (VUL) Qui custodit praeceptum, non experietur quidquam mali; tempus et iudicium cor sapientis intellegit.
5 (KAT) Kto zachováva príkaz, neokúsi nijaké zlo. Múdre srdce pozná čas a správny spôsob.
5 (UKJV) Whoso keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.

6 (HEM) כי לכל חפץ יש עת ומשפט כי רעת האדם רבה עליו׃
6 (VUL) Omni enim negotio tempus est et iudicium, et multa hominis afflictio;
6 (KAT) Lebo každá záležitosť má svoj čas a správny spôsob: lenže nehoda ťažko zaľahne na človeka.
6 (UKJV) Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

7 (HEM) כי איננו ידע מה שיהיה כי כאשר יהיה מי יגיד לו׃
7 (VUL) ignorat enim quid futurum sit, nam quomodo sit futurum, quis nuntiabit ei?
7 (KAT) Nevie totiž, čo bude. Lebo kto mu zvestuje, ako bude?
7 (UKJV) For he knows not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?

8 (HEM) אין אדם שליט ברוח לכלוא את הרוח ואין שלטון ביום המות ואין משלחת במלחמה ולא ימלט רשע את בעליו׃
8 (VUL) Non est in hominis potestate dominari super spiritum nec cohibere spiritum, nec habet potestatem supra diem mortis, nec ulla remissio est ingruente bello, neque salvabit impietas impium.
8 (KAT) Nik nemá moc nad dychom života, aby mohol zadržať dych života. Ani nik nemá vládu nad dňom smrti. Veď niet priepustky, kým trvá boj. Nijaká ničomnosť nevie vyslobodiť tých, čo ju páchajú.
8 (UKJV) "There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither has he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. "

9 (HEM) את כל זה ראיתי ונתון את לבי לכל מעשה אשר נעשה תחת השמש עת אשר שלט האדם באדם לרע לו׃
9 (VUL) Omnia haec consideravi et dedi cor meum cunctis operibus, quae fiunt sub sole, quo tempore dominatur homo homini in malum suum.
9 (KAT) To všetko som si všímal a (pozorne) som si ukladal do srdca, ako je určený čas pre každý čin, ktorý sa deje pod slnkom - človek však chce vládnuť nad iným človekom na svoje vlastné zlo.
9 (UKJV) All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man rules over another to his own hurt.

10 (HEM) ובכן ראיתי רשעים קברים ובאו וממקום קדוש יהלכו וישתכחו בעיר אשר כן עשו גם זה הבל׃
10 (VUL) Et ita vidi impios sepultos, discedentes de loco sancto; in oblivionem cadere in civitate, quod ita egerunt: sed et hoc vanitas est.
10 (KAT) Pritom som videl, že násilníci boli pochovaní, kým tí, čo si počínali správne, museli utiecť zo svätého miesta a upadli v meste do zabudnutia. Aj v tom je márnosť,
10 (UKJV) And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

11 (HEM) אשר אין נעשה פתגם מעשה הרעה מהרה על כן מלא לב בני האדם בהם לעשות רע׃
11 (VUL) Etenim, quia non profertur cito sententia contra opera mala, ideo cor filiorum hominum repletur, ut perpetrent mala.
11 (KAT) že nevykonajú hneď rozsudok nad zločinom ničomníka, - a preto sa srdce Adamových synov odváži konať zlo;
11 (UKJV) Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

12 (HEM) אשר חטא עשה רע מאת ומאריך לו כי גם יודע אני אשר יהיה טוב ליראי האלהים אשר ייראו מלפניו׃
12 (VUL) Nam peccator centies facit malum et prolongat sibi dies; verumtamen novi quod erit bonum timentibus Deum, qui verentur faciem eius.
12 (KAT) že hriešnik, ktorý si hanebne počína, žije aj sto rokov, ba ešte aj viac, - hoci aj to mi je známe, že bohabojní sa budú mať dobre: takí, čo majú bázeň pred (Božou) tvárou;
12 (UKJV) Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

13 (HEM) וטוב לא יהיה לרשע ולא יאריך ימים כצל אשר איננו ירא מלפני אלהים׃
13 (VUL) Non sit bonum impio, nec prolongabit dies suos quasi umbram, qui non timet faciem Domini.
13 (KAT) a zasa, že bezbožnému dobre nebude, ani si nemôže predĺžiť svoje dni, podobné tieňu, pretože sa nebojí Božej tváre.
13 (UKJV) "But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he fears not before God. "

14 (HEM) יש הבל אשר נעשה על הארץ אשר יש צדיקים אשר מגיע אלהם כמעשה הרשעים ויש רשעים שמגיע אלהם כמעשה הצדיקים אמרתי שגם זה הבל׃
14 (VUL) Est vanitas, quae fit super terram: sunt iusti, quibus mala proveniunt, quasi opera egerint impiorum, et sunt impii, quibus bona proveniunt, quasi iustorum facta habeant; sed et hoc vanissimum iudico.
14 (KAT) Je aj iná márnosť, ktorá sa deje na zemi, že sú spravodlivci, ktorých stíha (osud), aký zodpovie činom bezbožných, - a že sú bezbožníci, ktorí dosiahnu, čo by zodpovedalo skutkom spravodlivých. A pomyslel som si: „Aj to je márnosť!“
14 (UKJV) "There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity. "

15 (HEM) ושבחתי אני את השמחה אשר אין טוב לאדם תחת השמש כי אם לאכול ולשתות ולשמוח והוא ילונו בעמלו ימי חייו אשר נתן לו האלהים תחת השמש׃
15 (VUL) Laudavi igitur laetitiam quod non esset homini bonum sub sole, nisi quod comederet et biberet atque gauderet et hoc solum secum auferret de labore suo in diebus vitae suae, quos dedit ei Deus sub sole.
15 (KAT) A preto som schvaľoval radosť; že niet pre človeka inej dobroty pod slnkom okrem toho, že si zaje, vypije a teší sa. Nech ho to sprevádza pri každej námahe v dňoch jeho života, ktorý mu udelí Boh pod slnkom.
15 (UKJV) Then I commended delight, because a man has no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God gives him under the sun.

16 (HEM) כאשר נתתי את לבי לדעת חכמה ולראות את הענין אשר נעשה על הארץ כי גם ביום ובלילה שנה בעיניו איננו ראה׃
16 (VUL) Cum apposui cor meum, ut scirem sapientiam et intellegerem occupationem, quae versatur in terra, quod diebus et noctibus somnum non capit oculis,
16 (KAT) Keď som sa v srdci rozhodol, že budem poznávať múdrosť a všímať si zamestnanie, ktorým sú takí zaujatí na zemi, že nikomu nevidno sen na očiach ani vo dne, ani v noci,
16 (UKJV) When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night sees sleep with his eyes:)

17 (HEM) וראיתי את כל מעשה האלהים כי לא יוכל האדם למצוא את המעשה אשר נעשה תחת השמש בשל אשר יעמל האדם לבקש ולא ימצא וגם אם יאמר החכם לדעת לא יוכל למצא׃
17 (VUL) ecce intellexi quod omnium operum Dei nullam possit homo invenire rationem eorum, quae fiunt sub sole; et quanto plus laboraverit homo ad quaerendum, tanto minus inveniet; etiamsi dixerit sapiens se nosse, non poterit reperire.
17 (KAT) tak som videl, čo všetko spôsobuje Boh a že človek nie je schopný vystihnúť dianie, ktoré sa odohráva pod slnkom; čo ako by sa človek namáhal v hľadaní, nijako ho nevie vystihnúť. A keby si aj múdry povedal, že on ho (už) pozná, ani on to nevládze vystihnúť.
17 (UKJV) "Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it. "
