1 (KJV) A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
1 (B21) Lepší je dobré jméno než nejlepší olej, den smrti je lepší než den zrození.

2 (KJV) It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
2 (B21) Lepší je vejít do domu smutku nežli do domu veselí. Každého člověka čeká konec - kdo je naživu, ať na to pomyslí!

3 (KJV) Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.
3 (B21) Lepší je zármutek nežli smích, smutná tvář srdce zvelebí.

4 (KJV) The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
4 (B21) Srdce moudrých je v domě truchlení, srdce hlupáků v domě zábavy.

5 (KJV) It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
5 (B21) Lepší je vyslechnout výtky mudrců nežli poslouchat písničky hlupáků.

6 (KJV) For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
6 (B21) Jako když pod hrncem zapraští roští, tak rychle vyhoří hlupákův smích. I to je marnost!

7 (KJV) Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart.
7 (B21) Nátlak i z moudrého udělá blázna, úplatek kazí srdce člověka.

8 (KJV) Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
8 (B21) Lepší je, když něco končí, než když to začíná; lepší je trpělivý než ten, kdo se nadýmá.

9 (KJV) Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
9 (B21) Nebuď snadno popudlivý k hněvu, mrzutost odpočívá v klíně hlupáků.

10 (KJV) Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
10 (B21) Neříkej: Kde jsou ty staré dobré časy? Takové otázky není moudré klást.

11 (KJV) Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.
11 (B21) Moudrost je dobrá jako zděděné jmění, prospěšná je těm, kdo vidí světlo dne.

12 (KJV) For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.
12 (B21) Být zaštítěn moudrostí je jako být zaštítěn penězi, poznání moudrosti však má výhodu: ty, kdo ji mají, drží naživu.

13 (KJV) Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?
13 (B21) Pohleď na Boží dílo - kdo může narovnat, co on pokřivil?

14 (KJV) In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him.
14 (B21) V dobrý den užívej štěstí a ve zlý den si uvědom, že Bůh jej učinil tak jako ten druhý, aby si člověk nikdy nebyl jist, co skrývá budoucnost.

15 (KJV) All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.
15 (B21) Za dnů své marnosti jsem viděl všechno: Spravedlivý umírá i se svou spravedlností, zlý žije dlouho i se svou špatností.

16 (KJV) Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
16 (B21) Nebývej příliš spravedlivý ani přehnaně moudrý. Proč se máš trápit?

17 (KJV) Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?
17 (B21) Nebuď však ani příliš zlý a také nebuď bláhový. Proč máš předčasně umřít?

18 (KJV) It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
18 (B21) Toho je dobré se držet a tamtoho se nepouštět; kdo je bohabojný, dodrží obojí.

19 (KJV) Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city.
19 (B21) Moudrost je moudrému větší silou než deset vládců ve městě.

20 (KJV) For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
20 (B21) Na zemi není jediný spravedlivý, který by konal dobro a nehřešil.

21 (KJV) Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:
21 (B21) Nestarej se o všechno, co se kde říká, abys neslyšel kletby svého otroka.

22 (KJV) For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
22 (B21) Ve vlastním srdci přece dobře víš, že i tys druhé často proklínal.

23 (KJV) All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.
23 (B21) V tom všem jsem se snažil najít moudrost. Říkal jsem si, že zmoudřím, moudrost mi ale zůstala vzdálená.

24 (KJV) That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out?
24 (B21) Vzdálená je, ať už je jakákoli! Kdo jen ji nalezne hluboko v hlubinách?

25 (KJV) I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:
25 (B21) Všechno jsem v mysli probral, abych poznal a prozkoumal moudrost a dopátral se smyslu, abych pochopil i zlou tupost a hloupou bezhlavost.

26 (KJV) And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
26 (B21) Tehdy jsem nalezl něco trpčího než smrt - svůdnou ženu, jejíž srdce je past a jejíž paže jsou pouta. Boží oblíbenec unikne před ní, hříšníka ale polapí.

27 (KJV) Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account:
27 (B21) Pohleď, k čemu jsem došel, praví Kazatel: Jedno jsem porovnával s druhým, abych našel smysl,

28 (KJV) Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
28 (B21) po němž má duše tolik toužila, ale nenašel jsem jej. Mezi tisícem jsem našel jediného muže, ženu jsem ale mezi tolika nenašel.

29 (KJV) Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
29 (B21) Pohleď, došel jsem pouze k jedinému: Bůh stvořil člověka správně, oni však následovali spoustu výmyslů.
