1 Kaz 11, 1 Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days. 2 Kaz 11, 2 "Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be upon the earth. " 3 Kaz 11, 3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falls, there it shall be. 4 Kaz 11, 4 "He that observes the wind shall not sow; and he that regards the clouds shall not reap. " 5 Kaz 11, 5 As you know not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so you know not the works of God who makes all. 6 Kaz 11, 6 In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening withhold not your hand: for you know not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. 7 Kaz 11, 7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun: 8 Kaz 11, 8 "But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that comes is vanity. " 9 Kaz 11, 9 "Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know you, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. " 10 Kaz 11, 10 Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

As you know not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so you know not the works of God who makes all.
Jn 3:8 - The wind (o. pneuma) blows where it decides, and you hear the sound thereof, but can not tell whence it comes, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (o. pneuma)

Kaz 11,1 - Presvedčenie, že na svete je všetko nedokonalé a nedostatočné, aby mohlo ukojiť túžby ľudskej duše, predsa nevedú Kazateľa k praktickému záveru, aby sa človek vzdal všetkej podnikavosti a činnosti.Prvé dva verše pokúsili sa vysvetľovať rozličným spôsobom: "Púšťať svoj chlieb po vode" vykladali aj v tom zmysle, že Kazateľ odporúča svojim čitateľom obchodovať s ďalekými, zámorskými krajinami. – "Podeľ svoj majetok!" vykladali v tom zmysle, že tu ide o udeľovanie almužny, ktorá sa mnohonásobne navráti darcovi (porov. Lk 16,9). No pravdepodobnejší je zmysel, ktorý vydajú obidva verše, ak ich spojíme, a vtedy je zmysel asi takýto: "Obchod s ďalekými krajinami tak prevádzaj, že nevložíš všetok svoj majetok na jedinú loď."
Kaz 11,4 - Prácu treba započať, keď nadišiel jej čas, bez ohľadu na to, či musíme pri jej výkone zdolávať určité prekážky.
Kaz 11,5 - Iní majú miesto "vietor" nový význam: "duch" alebo "životný dych". Hebrejské slovo ruach má význam: 1) vietor, 2) životný dych, 3) duch. Tak potom niektorí aj spájajú obidva obrazy (o vetroch a o kostiach v lone matky) takto: Ako nevieš, ktorou cestou sa dostáva životný dych ku kostiam v živote ťarchavej ženy, tak podobne nevieš, čo robí Boh.
Kaz 11,8 - "Dni temravy" môžu byť: 1) roky nešťastia na tomto svete, 2) doba v podsvetí. Súvis odporúča najmä tento druhý zmysel.
Kaz 11,10 - "Úsvit života" prekladajú aj vo význame: "pôžitok alebo čierne vlasy", ako by to bola protiva k stareckým šedinám (porov. 12,5c).
