1 (HEM) בני אם ערבת לרעך תקעת לזר כפיך׃
1 (UKJV) My son, if you be guarantor for your friend, if you have stricken your hand with a stranger,

2 (HEM) נוקשת באמרי פיך נלכדת באמרי פיך׃
2 (UKJV) You are snared with the words of your mouth, you are taken with the words of your mouth.

3 (HEM) עשה זאת אפוא בני והנצל כי באת בכף רעך לך התרפס ורהב רעיך׃
3 (UKJV) "Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, when you are come into the hand of your friend; go, humble yourself, and make sure your friend. "

4 (HEM) אל תתן שנה לעיניך ותנומה לעפעפיך׃
4 (UKJV) Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

5 (HEM) הנצל כצבי מיד וכצפור מיד יקוש׃
5 (UKJV) Deliver yourself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 (HEM) לך אל נמלה עצל ראה דרכיה וחכם׃
6 (UKJV) "Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: "

7 (HEM) אשר אין לה קצין שטר ומשל׃
7 (UKJV) Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 (HEM) תכין בקיץ לחמה אגרה בקציר מאכלה׃
8 (UKJV) Provides her food in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

9 (HEM) עד מתי עצל תשכב מתי תקום משנתך׃
9 (UKJV) How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep?

10 (HEM) מעט שנות מעט תנומות מעט חבק ידים לשכב׃
10 (UKJV) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 (HEM) ובא כמהלך ראשך ומחסרך כאיש מגן׃
11 (UKJV) So shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your lack as an armed man.

12 (HEM) אדם בליעל איש און הולך עקשות פה׃
12 (UKJV) A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth.

13 (HEM) קרץ בעינו מלל ברגלו מרה באצבעתיו׃
13 (UKJV) "He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers; "

14 (HEM) תהפכות בלבו חרש רע בכל עת מדנים ישלח׃
14 (UKJV) "Perverseness is in his heart, he devises mischief continually; he sows discord. "

15 (HEM) על כן פתאם יבוא אידו פתע ישבר ואין מרפא׃
15 (UKJV) "Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. "

16 (HEM) שש הנה שנא יהוה ושבע תועבות נפשו׃
16 (UKJV) These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 (HEM) עינים רמות לשון שקר וידים שפכות דם נקי׃
17 (UKJV) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 (HEM) לב חרש מחשבות און רגלים ממהרות לרוץ לרעה׃
18 (UKJV) An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 (HEM) יפיח כזבים עד שקר ומשלח מדנים בין אחים׃
19 (UKJV) A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

20 (HEM) נצר בני מצות אביך ואל תטש תורת אמך׃
20 (UKJV) My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not the law of your mother:

21 (HEM) קשרם על לבך תמיד ענדם על גרגרתך׃
21 (UKJV) Bind them continually upon your heart, and tie them about your neck.

22 (HEM) בהתהלכך תנחה אתך בשכבך תשמר עליך והקיצות היא תשיחך׃
22 (UKJV) "When you go, it shall lead you; when you sleep, it shall keep you; and when you awake, it shall talk with you. "

23 (HEM) כי נר מצוה ותורה אור ודרך חיים תוכחות מוסר׃
23 (UKJV) "For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: "

24 (HEM) לשמרך מאשת רע מחלקת לשון נכריה׃
24 (UKJV) To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 (HEM) אל תחמד יפיה בלבבך ואל תקחך בעפעפיה׃
25 (UKJV) "Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids. "

26 (HEM) כי בעד אשה זונה עד ככר לחם ואשת איש נפש יקרה תצוד׃
26 (UKJV) For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

27 (HEM) היחתה איש אש בחיקו ובגדיו לא תשרפנה׃
27 (UKJV) Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 (HEM) אם יהלך איש על הגחלים ורגליו לא תכוינה׃
28 (UKJV) Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 (HEM) כן הבא אל אשת רעהו לא ינקה כל הנגע בה׃
29 (UKJV) "So he that goes in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent. "

30 (HEM) לא יבוזו לגנב כי יגנוב למלא נפשו כי ירעב׃
30 (UKJV) "Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; "

31 (HEM) ונמצא ישלם שבעתים את כל הון ביתו יתן׃
31 (UKJV) "But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. "

32 (HEM) נאף אשה חסר לב משחית נפשו הוא יעשנה׃
32 (UKJV) But whoso commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul.

33 (HEM) נגע וקלון ימצא וחרפתו לא תמחה׃
33 (UKJV) "A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. "

34 (HEM) כי קנאה חמת גבר ולא יחמול ביום נקם׃
34 (UKJV) For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 (HEM) לא ישא פני כל כפר ולא יאבה כי תרבה שחד׃
35 (UKJV) "He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts. "
