1 (KJV) My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
1 (B21) Synu, pokud za někoho ručíš, cizímu člověku jsi svou ruku dal,

2 (KJV) Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
2 (B21) vlastními slovy jsi nyní svázán, lapen jsi tím, co jsi prohlásil!

3 (KJV) Do this now, my son, deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
3 (B21) Nyní se musíš vyprostit, můj synu - ten někdo tě totiž v hrsti má - jdi za ním, poniž se a dotírej!

4 (KJV) Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
4 (B21) Nedopřej svým očím žádný spánek, tvá víčka ať ani neokusí sen.

5 (KJV) Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
5 (B21) Unikni mu jako srnec lovci, vyvázni jako ptáče ze sítě!

6 (KJV) Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
6 (B21) Jdi za mravencem, pecivále, pozoruj ho a zmoudříš hned!

7 (KJV) Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
7 (B21) Žádného vůdce mravenec nemá, dozorce ani vládce jemu netřeba;

8 (KJV) Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
8 (B21) v létě si ale potraviny chystá, o žních zásoby pilně ukládá.

9 (KJV) How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
9 (B21) Jak dlouho, lenochu, budeš polehávat, kdy už se konečně ze snu probudíš?

10 (KJV) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
10 (B21) Chvilku si pospíš, chvilku zdřímneš, na chvilku složíš ruce a spočineš?

11 (KJV) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
11 (B21) Vtom jako tulák bída navštíví tě, jako loupežník tě nouze přepadne!

12 (KJV) A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
12 (B21) Ničemný člověk, hanebník jinak než křivě nemluví.

13 (KJV) He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
13 (B21) Očima pomrkává, mele nohama, prsty ukazuje sem a tam.

14 (KJV) Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
14 (B21) Ve falešném srdci zlé věci chystá, neustále sváry rozsévá.

15 (KJV) Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.
15 (B21) Proto, až neštěstí jej náhle potká, v mžiku jej rozdrtí, nebude pomoci.

16 (KJV) These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
16 (B21) Těchto šest věcí Hospodin nenávidí a sedmou má za ryzí ohavnost:

17 (KJV) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
17 (B21) povýšené oči, prolhaný jazyk, ruce mordující nevinné,

18 (KJV) An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
18 (B21) srdce, jež chystá hanebné plány, nohy pospíchající páchat zlo,

19 (KJV) A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
19 (B21) křivopřísežníka, který klam šíří, a rozsévače svárů mezi bratřími.

20 (KJV) My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
20 (B21) Opatruj, synu, otcova přikázání, od matčiných pokynů se nevzdaluj.

21 (KJV) Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
21 (B21) Navěky připoutej si je k srdci, okolo hrdla si je přivěšuj.

22 (KJV) When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
22 (B21) Kamkoli půjdeš, moudrost tě doprovodí, kdykoli ulehneš, bude nad tebou bdít, jakmile procitneš, s tebou promluví.

23 (KJV) For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
23 (B21) Přikázání je svíce a učení světlo, poučné domluvy jsou cesta k životu.

24 (KJV) To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
24 (B21) Před špatnou ženou tě budou chránit, před lichotným jazykem svůdkyně.

25 (KJV) Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
25 (B21) Neprahni v srdci po její kráse, jejími řasami se nenech polapit.

26 (KJV) For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
26 (B21) Za nevěstku se platí i bochníkem chleba, cizoložnice však vzácnou duši uloví!

27 (KJV) Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
27 (B21) Může muž ukrýt oheň v klíně, aniž by propálil si šat?

28 (KJV) Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
28 (B21) Může snad chodit po žhavém uhlí, aniž si spálí chodidla?

29 (KJV) So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.
29 (B21) Stejně tak ten, kdo s ženou bližního spí - kdo se jí dotkne, trestu neujde!

30 (KJV) Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
30 (B21) Zloděj nebývá haněn, když krade, aby nasytil svůj neodbytný hlad.

31 (KJV) But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
31 (B21) Sedmkrát více vrací, pokud je chycen, všechno své jmění musí odevzdat.

32 (KJV) But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.
32 (B21) Jenom šílenec ale cizoloží, kdo činí to, je sebevrah!

33 (KJV) A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
33 (B21) Bití a ostuda na něj čeká, pohanu svou už nikdy nesmaže.

34 (KJV) For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
34 (B21) Žárlivost rozzuří manžela té ženy, nelítostný bude v den pomsty své;

35 (KJV) He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
35 (B21) nevezme ohled na žádné odškodnění, sebevětší úplatek jím nepohne!
