Prís 25, 1-28

1 (KJV) These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
1 (ROH) Aj toto sú príslovia Šalamúnove, ktoré sobrali mužovia Ezechiáša, judského kráľa.

2 (KJV) It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
2 (ROH) Slávou Božou je ukryť vec, a slávou kráľov je vyzkúmať vec.

3 (KJV) The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
3 (ROH) Nebesia čo do výšky a zem čo do hĺbky a srdce kráľov sú nevyzpytateľné.

4 (KJV) Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
4 (ROH) Odstrániť trosky zo striebra, a vyjde čistá nádoba slievačovi;

5 (KJV) Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
5 (ROH) odstrániť bezbožníka pred kráľom, a jeho trón bude stáť pevne v spravedlivosti.

6 (KJV) Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
6 (ROH) Nerob sa slávnym pred kráľom a nestoj na mieste veľkých.

7 (KJV) For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.
7 (ROH) Lebo je lepšie, aby ti povedali: Vystúp sem, než aby ťa ponížili pred kniežaťom, ktoré videly tvoje oči.

8 (KJV) Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
8 (ROH) Nepúšťaj sa náhle do sporu, aby si napokon neprišiel do úzkosti, čo robiť, keďby ťa zahanbil tvoj blížny.

9 (KJV) Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another:
9 (ROH) Pokonaj svoju pravotu so svojím blížnym a tajomstvo druhého človeka nevyjav,

10 (KJV) Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.
10 (ROH) aby ťa nepotupil ten, kto by to počul, a tvoja zlá povesť by sa nevrátila.

11 (KJV) A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
11 (ROH) Zlaté jablká v strieborných pletienkoch dobré slovo, povedané v svoj čas.

12 (KJV) As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
12 (ROH) Zlatou náušnicou a ozdobou z rýdzeho zlata je múdry kárateľ na ucho, ktoré čuje.

13 (KJV) As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
13 (ROH) Jako chlad snehu v deň žatvy je verný posol tým, ktorí ho posielajú, a občerstvuje dušu svojich pánov.

14 (KJV) Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.
14 (ROH) Vystupujúce pary oblačné a vietor bez dažďa, taký je človek, ktorý sa chváli lživým darom.

15 (KJV) By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
15 (ROH) Trpezlivosťou býva nahovorené knieža, a mäkký jazyk láme kosti.

16 (KJV) Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
16 (ROH) Našiel si med; jedz toľko, čo ti je dosť, aby si sa ho nepresýtil a vyvrátil by si ho.

17 (KJV) Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour's house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.
17 (ROH) Zdržuj svoju nohu od domu svojho blížneho, aby sa ťa nenasýtil a vzal by ťa v nenávisť.

18 (KJV) A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
18 (ROH) Kyjak, meč a ostrá strela, taký je človek, ktorý hovorí proti svojmu blížnemu, falošný svedok.

19 (KJV) Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
19 (ROH) Vylomený zub a vytknutá noha nádej v neverného v deň úzkosti.

20 (KJV) As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
20 (ROH) Ten, kto vyzlieka odev za studeného dňa; ten, kto leje ocot na sanitru, a ten, kto spieva pesničky smutnému srdcu, sú jedno.

21 (KJV) If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
21 (ROH) Ak je lačný ten, kto ťa nenávidí, nakŕm ho chlebom; ak je smädný, napoj ho vodou,

22 (KJV) For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
22 (ROH) lebo tak shrnieš žeravé uhlie na jeho hlavu, a Hospodin ti odplatí.

23 (KJV) The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
23 (ROH) Severný vietor plodí dážď a hnevlivú tvár jazyk, ktorý tajne škodí.

24 (KJV) It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
24 (ROH) Lepšie je bývať voľakde v kúte na streche ako so svárlivou ženou v spoločnom dome.

25 (KJV) As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
25 (ROH) Studená voda čerstvá na vypráhlu dušu a dobrá zvesť z ďalekej zeme.

26 (KJV) A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.
26 (ROH) Pošliapaný prameň a zkazený zdroj, to je spravedlivý, ktorý sa kláti pred bezbožným.

27 (KJV) It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.
27 (ROH) Jesť mnoho medu nie je dobre, tak vyhľadávať vlastnú slávu nie je slávou.

28 (KJV) He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
28 (ROH) Preborené mesto, bez múru, je muž, ktorý neovláda svojho ducha.

Prís 21:9 - It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
Prís 21:19 - It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Verš 28
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Prís 16:32 - He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

Pris 25,1 - Redaktori tejto zbierky Šalamúnskych prísloví ich vypísali z iných zbierok, ktoré boli známe. Ezechiáš, preslávený tým, že dvíhal náboženský život, odstraňoval z neho neporiadky, vydal príkaz svojim pomocníkom, aby zozbierali Šalamúnske porekadlá, roztratené v rozmanitých menších zvitkoch, a aby ich napísali na spoločný väčší zvitok.

Pris 25,7 - Porov. Lk 14,8–11.

Pris 25,10 - Vo Vulg je ďalší dvojverš:"Láska a priateľstvo činia človeka slobodným;zachovávaj si ich, abys’ nebol naprotiveň."

Pris 25,20 - Polverš 20a nie je v LXX. Kritika v ňom vidí glosu, alebo sa žiada k nemu na doplnok ďalší polverš, aby vznikla štvorveršová sloha. – Vo Vulg je ďalší dvojverš:"Ako škodí rúchu moľ a drevu črviak,takto škodí smútok srdcu ľudskému."
