Prís 18, 1-24

1 (KJV) Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
1 (ROH) Ten, kto sa svojmyseľne oddeľuje, hľadá to, čo sa jemu ľúbi, a stavia sa na odpor všetkému, čo by prospelo.

2 (KJV) A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
2 (ROH) Blázon nemá záľuby v rozumnosti, ale iba v tom, aby sa odkrylo jeho srdce.

3 (KJV) When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
3 (ROH) Keď prijde bezbožník, prijde aj pohŕdanie a s nevážnosťou potupa.

4 (KJV) The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
4 (ROH) Slová úst muža sú jako hlboké vody, rozvodnený potok prameň múdrosti.

5 (KJV) It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
5 (ROH) Nie je dobré hľadieť na osobu bezbožného, tak aby niekto zohnul spravedlivého v súde.

6 (KJV) A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
6 (ROH) Rty blázna vchádzajú do sporu, a jeho ústa volajú po úderoch.

7 (KJV) A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
7 (ROH) Ústa blázna sú jeho zkazou, a jeho rty osídlom jeho duši.

8 (KJV) The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
8 (ROH) Slová pletichára sú jako lahôdky a sostupujú do vnútorností života.

9 (KJV) He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
9 (ROH) Aj nedbalý vo svojej práci je bratom toho, kto robí zkazu.

10 (KJV) The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
10 (ROH) Meno Hospodinovo je pevnou vežou, do nej sa utečie spravedlivý a bude vyvýšený.

11 (KJV) The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
11 (ROH) Majetok bohatého je jeho pevným mestom a jako vysoký múr v predstave jeho mysli.

12 (KJV) Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
12 (ROH) Pred skrúšením povyšuje sa srdce človeka, a pred slávou ide pokora.

13 (KJV) He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
13 (ROH) Tomu, kto odpovedá, prv ako počul, počíta sa to za bláznovstvo a za hanbu.

14 (KJV) The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
14 (ROH) Mužný duch znáša svoju nemoc; ale zroneného ducha kto unesie?

15 (KJV) The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
15 (ROH) Srdce rozumného nadobudne známosti, a ucho múdrych hľadá známosť.

16 (KJV) A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
16 (ROH) Dar človeka upriestranňuje mu a vedie ho pred veľkých.

17 (KJV) He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
17 (ROH) Spravedlivým sa vidí ten, kto je prvý vo svojom spore; ale keď prijde jeho blížny, ide mu na dno.

18 (KJV) The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
18 (ROH) Los upokojuje zvady a robiac mier delí aj silných jedného od druhého.

19 (KJV) A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
19 (ROH) Brat, urazený neverou, vzdoruje viac ako silné mesto, a zvady sú jako závora hradu.

20 (KJV) A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
20 (ROH) Život každého človeka nasýti sa ovocia jeho úst; každý sa nasýti úrody svojich rtov.

21 (KJV) Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
21 (ROH) Smrť i život je v ruke jazyka, a ten, kto ho miluje, bude jesť jeho ovocie.

22 (KJV) Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
22 (ROH) Ten, kto našiel ženu, našiel dobré a dosiahol priazne od Hospodina.

23 (KJV) The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
23 (ROH) Chudobný hovorí pokorne, prosiac; ale bohatý odpovedá tvrdo.

24 (KJV) A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
24 (ROH) Človek, ktorý hľadá primnoho priateľov, robí to na vlastnú škodu; ale niekto milujúci pridŕža sa vernejšie ako brat.

Verš 5
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
Lv 19:15 - Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.
Dt 1:17 - Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
Dt 16:19 - Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.
Prís 24:23 - These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Prís 10:14 - Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
Prís 13:3 - He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
Prís 12:13 - The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.

A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
Prís 12:14 - A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Prís 13:2 - A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

Verš 21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Prís 21:23 - Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Jak 3:2 - For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Verš 22
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Prís 19:14 - House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
Prís 17:17 - A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
