1 (KJV) The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;
1 (B21) Přísloví Šalomouna, syna Davidova, krále nad Izraelem,

2 (KJV) To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
2 (B21) k nabytí moudrosti a k poučení, jak rozumět hlubokým výrokům,

3 (KJV) To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
3 (B21) jak si osvojit, co učí rozum, spravedlnost, právo a poctivost,

4 (KJV) To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
4 (B21) jak předat prostoduchým chytrost, mládeži prozíravost a vědění.

5 (KJV) A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
5 (B21) Moudrý ať poslouchá a rozmnoží svou znalost, rozumný ať dá si poradit,

6 (KJV) To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
6 (B21) jak porozumět úslovím a jinotajům, rčením mudrců a jejich hádankám.

7 (KJV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
7 (B21) Klíčem k poznání je úcta k Hospodinu; moudrostí a poučením jen hlupák pohrdá.

8 (KJV) My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
8 (B21) Poslouchej, synu můj, otcovo poučení, od matčiných pokynů se nevzdaluj.

9 (KJV) For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
9 (B21) Půvabným věncem na tvé hlavě budou, náhrdelníkem budou na hrdle tvém.

10 (KJV) My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
10 (B21) Nenech se zlákat, synu, když hříšníci tě mámí:

11 (KJV) If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:
11 (B21) "Pojď s námi, budem ze zálohy vraždit, někoho nevinného jen tak přepadnem,

12 (KJV) Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:
12 (B21) jako hrob zaživa je spolknem, vcelku, jako když padnou do jámy.

13 (KJV) We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:
13 (B21) Všemožné cennosti si snadno pořídíme, domy si naplníme kořistí.

14 (KJV) Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:
14 (B21) Na naši kartu vsaď svůj osud, společný měšec budem všichni mít!"

15 (KJV) My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
15 (B21) Na cestu s nimi nepouštěj se, synu, nevydávej se v jejich šlépějích -

16 (KJV) For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
16 (B21) jejich nohy běží k neštěstí, k prolití krve spěchají!

17 (KJV) Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.
17 (B21) Líčit síť před očima ptáků je jistě zcela zbytečné.

18 (KJV) And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.
18 (B21) Tihle však na sebe smrtelnou léčku strojí, na vlastní duši číhají.

19 (KJV) So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
19 (B21) Tak skončí každý, kdo hledá mrzký zisk - o vlastní duši ho to připraví.

20 (KJV) Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
20 (B21) Moudrost venku na ulicích volá, na náměstích svůj hlas pozvedá,

21 (KJV) She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
21 (B21) na rušných nárožích hlasitě vykřikuje, v průchodu městské brány proslov má:

22 (KJV) How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
22 (B21) "Kdy omezenců láska k malosti už skončí, kdy drzounů záliba v drzosti, kdy tupců nenávist ke všemu vědění?

23 (KJV) Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
23 (B21) Obraťte se, když vás napomínám, hle, svého ducha na vás vylít chci, právě vám chci svá slova oznámit!

24 (KJV) Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
24 (B21) Dosud jsem volala, však nechtěli jste slyšet, ruku jsem nabízela, nikdo však nevnímal,

25 (KJV) But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
25 (B21) všechny mé rady zavrhli jste, mými domluvami se nikdo neřídil.

26 (KJV) I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
26 (B21) Vašemu neštěstí já nyní zasměji se i hrůze, jež vás přepadne. Bavit se budu,

27 (KJV) When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
27 (B21) až jako bouře zachvátí vás hrůza, až jako vichr udeří vaše neštěstí, až soužením a tísní budete sevřeni.

28 (KJV) Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
28 (B21) Až mě pak volat budou, neozvu se, budou mě shánět, avšak nenajdou.

29 (KJV) For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
29 (B21) Protože nenáviděli poznání, úctu k Hospodinu si zvolit nechtěli,

30 (KJV) They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
30 (B21) mými radami se nikdy neřídili, mojí domluvou vždy jen pohrdli,

31 (KJV) Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
31 (B21) proto ať snědí, co si navařili, vlastními plány ať se nasytí!

32 (KJV) For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
32 (B21) Omezenci zajdou na vlastní umíněnost, spokojenost tupců je jejich záhuba.

33 (KJV) But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
33 (B21) Kdo mě však poslouchá, ten pohodlně žije v bezpečí před hrozbou všeho zla."
