1 (KJV) By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.
1 (B21) Mezi babylonskými řekami, tam jsme sedávali a plakali, když jsme vzpomínali na Sion.
2 (KJV) We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.
2 (B21) V té zemi jsme odložili citery a zavěsili je na vrby.
3 (KJV) For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
3 (B21) Naši věznitelé nás tam žádali, abychom jim prý zpívali; naši tyrani od nás chtěli veselí: "Co kdybyste nám zpívali některou z písní sionských?!"
4 (KJV) How shall we sing the LORD's song in a strange land?
4 (B21) Jak bychom ale byli zpívali Hospodinovu píseň mezi cizinci?
5 (KJV) If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning.
5 (B21) Pokud zapomenu, Jeruzaléme, na tebe, pak ať mi uschne pravice!
6 (KJV) If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
6 (B21) Ať mi i k patru jazyk přiroste, pokud přestanu myslet na tebe, pokud mi Jeruzalém nebude nade vše, nade všechny mé rozkoše!
7 (KJV) Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
7 (B21) Hospodine, jen se rozpomeň na Edomce v Jeruzalémě v onen den, kdy vykřikovali: "Rozbořte, rozbořte, zničte to město v základech!"
8 (KJV) O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
8 (B21) Ó dcero Babylonská, budeš zničena! Blaze tomu, kdo ti odplatí za všechna naše příkoří!
9 (KJV) Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.
9 (B21) Blaze tomu, kdo tvé děti uchopí a o skálu je rozrazí!

Verš 8
O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us.
Jer 50:15 - Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.
Jer 50:29 - Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.
Zjv 18:6 - Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.
Ž 79:1 - O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.
Verš 7
Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase it, rase it, even to the foundation thereof.
Jer 49:7 - Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?
Ez 25:12 - Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;
Z 137 - Pretože sa v žalme hovorí o babylonskom zajatí ako o minulosti, a z druhej strany sa veľmi živo opisuje postavenie deportovaných, autori sú zajedno v domnienke, že vznikol v prvých rokoch po návrate z babylonského zajatia.
Z 137,1 - Izraeliti bývali niekde pri kanáloch, ktoré spájali Eufrat a Tigris. Aj prorok Ezechiel mal svoje videnie pri rieke Chobar, čo bol pravdepodobne tiež kanál niektorej z dvoch spomenutých riek (Ez 1,1).
Z 137,5-6 - Spievať radostné piesne v cudzej krajine značilo by toľko, ako zabudnúť na svoju vlasť, na Jeruzalem.
Z 137,7-9 - Jeruzalem nebol všetkým odvlečeným len vlasťou, hlavným mestom krajiny, znamenal pre nich čosi viac. Jeruzalem bol aj Pánovým sídlom, bolo to sväté mesto, Božie mesto.
Z 137,7 - Keď Chaldejci dobyli Jeruzalem (587), Edomčania im pomáhali plieniť a vraždiť jeho obyvateľov (Ez 35,10.12.15; Abd 1,10-16; Jer 49,7-22).
Z 137,8-9 - Babylon volá "Babylonskou dcérou", pomenovanie bežné v SZ (Iz 47,1). O vraždení nevinných detí po dobytých mestách často čítame vo Svätom písme (2 Kr 8,12; Oz 10; Nah 3,10). Tieto ukrutnosti pre babylonských obyvateľov predpovedal Izaiáš 13,16-18; 14,21; Jeremiáš 25,12.
