1 Ž 129, 1 A Canticle in steps. From the depths, I have cried out to you, O Lord. 2 Ž 129, 2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. 3 Ž 129, 3 If you, O Lord, were to heed iniquities, who, O Lord, could persevere? 4 Ž 129, 4 For with you, there is forgiveness, and because of your law, I persevered with you, Lord. My soul has persevered in his word. 5 Ž 129, 5 My soul has hoped in the Lord. 6 Ž 129, 6 From the morning watch, even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. 7 Ž 129, 7 For with the Lord there is mercy, and with him there is bountiful redemption. 8 Ž 129, 8 And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Jób 8:12 - When it is still in flower, and has not been pulled up by hand, it withers before all other plants.
Jób 40:15 - The mountains bring forth grass for him; all the beasts of the field will play there.
Z 129,1-2 - "Od mladosti", od časov, čo semeno Abraháma vyrástlo na národ, teda od časov egyptského otroctva, cez dlhú a ťažkú dobu sudcov a kráľov, až po prítomné časy (Iz 27,12-13; Jer 2,2; 3,3; Ez 14,4; Oz 2,15; 11,1 n. atď.) Izraelitov prenasledovali. V dejinách Izraela nájdeme málo pokojných rokov.
Z 129,5-7 - Sion bol symbolom Zákona, daného izraelskému ľudu. Aj v týchto slovách sa uplatňuje židovská výlučnosť, idea vyvoleného národa.
Z 129,6 - V Palestíne sú strechy rovné. Vyložené sú buď kameňom, alebo, čo je častejšie, vysypané hlinou. Po dažďoch, za jarných dní narastie na strechách burina. No potom rýchlo vyschne.
