1 Ž 120, 1 A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains; from thence help will come to me. 2 Ž 120, 2 My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 3 Ž 120, 3 May he not allow your foot to be moved, and may he not slumber, who guards you. 4 Ž 120, 4 Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber. 5 Ž 120, 5 The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your protection, above your right hand. 6 Ž 120, 6 The sun will not burn you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 Ž 120, 7 The Lord guards you from all evil. May the Lord guard your soul. 8 Ž 120, 8 May the Lord guard your entrance and your exit, from this time forward and even forever.

1Sam 24:9 - Then David also rose up after him. And departing from the cave, he cried out behind the back of Saul, saying: “My lord, the king!” And Saul looked behind him. And David, bowing himself face down to the ground, reverenced.
1Sam 26:19 - Now therefore, listen, I beg you, my lord the king, to the words of your servant. If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let him make the sacrifice fragrant. But if the sons of men have done so, they are accursed in the sight of the Lord, who has cast me out this day, so that I would not live within the inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve strange gods.’

Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber.
Ž 11:2 - Save me, O Lord, because holiness has passed away, because truths have been diminished, before the sons of men.
Ž 59:7 - Save me with your right hand, and hear me.
Z 120 - Nadpis "Pútnická pieseň", dosl. pieseň výstupov - "šir hamma 'álôt", označuje okolnosť, pri ktorej sa žalm spieval. Tento nadpis majú aj nasledujúce žalmy 120 - 134. "Piesne výstupov" boli pútnické piesne, ktoré izraelskí pútnici spievali za cesty do Jeruzalema. Niektoré z piesní sú staršie, iné vznikli práve pre tento cieľ. Zozbierané do jedného zväzočku tvoria tzv. "Malý žaltár" pútnikov. Iní myslia, že tieto žalmy vznikli pri návrate z babylonského zajatia, keď jednotlivé izraelské kmene vstupovali do vlasti. 120. žalm opisuje nešťastie toho, čo žije ďaleko od Jeruzalema.
Z 120,3-4 - Žalmista sa v duchu obracia na svojich odporcov. Opytuje sa ich, aký trest ich zastihne od Pána? Odpoveď máme v nasledujúcom verši: "Ostré šípy bojovníka", čiže istá smrť, a "rozpálené uhlíky z borievčia", teda veľmi silný, trvalý oheň.
Z 120,5 - "Mosoch a Kedar" sú len metafora na označenie ukrutných cudzincov. Kde skutočne žalmista býva, nevedno. "Mosoch" bol kmeň, ktorý býval v okolí dnešného Čierneho mora (pozri Gn 10,2). "Kedar" bol kočovný kmeň v sýrsko-arabskej púšti (Gn 25,13).
