Kniha Jób

1 (KJV) Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
1 (B21) Stříbro má své naleziště, zlato má místo, kde čistí se.

2 (KJV) Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
2 (B21) Železo lidé těží ze země a kámen taví v měď.

3 (KJV) He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
3 (B21) Vytlačují tmu za nové hranice, pronikají každou krajní mez, po rudě pátrají v černé tmě.

4 (KJV) The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
4 (B21) Šachty razí, kam poutník nezavítá, kam ani nezabloudí noha člověka, spouští se na laně, kde není živáčka.

5 (KJV) As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
5 (B21) Země na povrchu skýtá chleba, v jejích hlubinách však sálá žár.

6 (KJV) The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
6 (B21) Safír se ukrývá v jejích skalách, blyští se tam zlatý prach.

7 (KJV) There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen:
7 (B21) Stezku tam nezná dravý pták, nespatřilo ji oko jestřába.

8 (KJV) The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
8 (B21) Nekráčí po ní pyšná šelma, lev nikdy nezavítá tam.

9 (KJV) He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
9 (B21) Lidé však na křemen vztahují ruku, hory vyvracejí z kořenů.

10 (KJV) He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
10 (B21) Ve skále dokáží razit štolu, očima pátrají po každém klenotu.

11 (KJV) He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
11 (B21) Zahradit umějí prosakující vodu, skryté poklady vynášejí ke světlu.

12 (KJV) But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
12 (B21) Kde se však moudrost nalézá? A rozumnost kde přebývá?

13 (KJV) Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
13 (B21) Člověk netuší, kudy k ní; nenajde ji na zemi mezi živými.

14 (KJV) The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
14 (B21) Propast praví: "Ve mně není." Moře říká: "Nemám ji."

15 (KJV) It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
15 (B21) Nedá se pořídit za zlato nejčistší, její cenu nelze stříbrem vyvážit.

16 (KJV) It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
16 (B21) Nedá se zaplatit zlatem ofirským, vzácným onyxem ani safíry.

17 (KJV) The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
17 (B21) Zlato ani křišťál s ní nelze porovnat, nedá se koupit za šperky ze zlata.

18 (KJV) No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
18 (B21) Korál či alabastr za zmínku nestojí, cena moudrosti je nad perly.

19 (KJV) The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
19 (B21) Nevyrovnají se jí ani africké topasy, nejryzejším zlatem se nedá zaplatit.

20 (KJV) Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
20 (B21) Odkud tedy moudrost vyvěrá? A rozumnost kde přebývá?

21 (KJV) Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
21 (B21) Skrytá je očím všech živých na zemi i ptákům na nebi je tajemstvím.

22 (KJV) Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
22 (B21) Záhuba i Smrt praví: "Samy jsme o ní jen slyšely."

23 (KJV) God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
23 (B21) Jen Bůh rozumí cestě k ní, to on ví, kde se nachází.

24 (KJV) For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
24 (B21) On vidí všechny zemské končiny, všechno pod nebem si prohlíží.

25 (KJV) To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
25 (B21) Když vítr silou obdařil a vodu mírou odměřil,

26 (KJV) When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
26 (B21) když dešti určil cíl a dráhu mrakům bouřkovým,

27 (KJV) Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
27 (B21) tehdy ji spatřil a ocenil, prozkoumal ji a potvrdil.

28 (KJV) And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
28 (B21) A řekl člověku: "Moudrost je v tom, ctít Hospodina, rozum je v tom, varovat se zla."
