Jób 26, 1-14

1 (KJV) But Job answered and said,
1 (B21) Job na to řekl:

2 (KJV) How hast thou helped him that is without power? how savest thou the arm that hath no strength?
2 (B21) "Jak pěkně umíš slabému pomoci! Jak jsi bezmocného přímo zachránil!

3 (KJV) How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom? and how hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?
3 (B21) Jakou radu jsi bláhovému udělil! Jak hluboké pochopení jsi tu projevil!

4 (KJV) To whom hast thou uttered words? and whose spirit came from thee?
4 (B21) Komu chceš tyhle řeči vykládat? Jaký duch to z tebe promlouvá?

5 (KJV) Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
5 (B21) Mrtví se před Bohem chvějí v hlubinách, pod vodou s těmi, kdo prodlévají tam.

6 (KJV) Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
6 (B21) Před ním je nahé samo záhrobí, neskryje se před ním říše záhuby.

7 (KJV) He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
7 (B21) On prostírá sever nad prázdnem, zavěšuje zemi na ničem.

8 (KJV) He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
8 (B21) On váže vody do oblak, mračno pod nimi se však netrhá.

9 (KJV) He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
9 (B21) On zahaluje úplněk, mrakem ho přikrývá jako závojem.

10 (KJV) He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
10 (B21) Vykroužil obzor nad vodní hladinou, tam, kde je hranice světla s temnotou.

11 (KJV) The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
11 (B21) Nebeské pilíře třesou se, děsí se při jeho pohrůžce.

12 (KJV) He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
12 (B21) On svojí mocí moře utišil, netvora rozdrtil svou moudrostí.

13 (KJV) By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
13 (B21) Nebe svým dechem rozjasnil, slizkého hada svou rukou poranil.

14 (KJV) Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?
14 (B21) A to jsou z jeho cest pouhé okraje, jen slabý šepot o něm slyšíme - burácení jeho moci kdo by rozuměl?"

Job 26,10 - "Hranica svetla so tmou" je označenie obzoru.

Job 26,12 - More tu dostáva meno Rachab (t. j. Obluda). Za vysvetlenie tohto pomenovania môže slúžiť azda to, že rozbúrené more pôsobí dojmom, akoby bolo podobné mohutnému hybkému hadovi. V starých povestiach Východu o stvorení sveta vystupuje spravidla pramore ako ozrutná hadia obluda (porov. asýrsku báj Enuma eliš a tiež 9,13; 7,12; Iz 51,10; Ž 89,11). Aj meno draka – hada "Leviatan" (3,8) súvisí s touto predstavou (26,13).
