Kniha Jób

1 (KJV) Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
1 (B21) Elifaz Temanský mu na to řekl:

2 (KJV) Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
2 (B21) "Má snad Bůh nějaký prospěch z člověka? Že by mu chytrák nějak prospíval?

3 (KJV) Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him that thou makest thy ways perfect?
3 (B21) Copak tvá spravedlnost Všemohoucího zajímá? Žiješ-li bezúhonně, co z toho má?

4 (KJV) Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
4 (B21) Že by se o tvou zbožnost s tebou pohádal? Proč by měl s tebou k soudu utíkat?

5 (KJV) Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
5 (B21) Tvá špatnost musí být veliká, tvá vina je bezmezná!

6 (KJV) For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
6 (B21) Od bratří jsi bezdůvodně zástavu vybíral a nahým svlékals jejich plášť,

7 (KJV) Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
7 (B21) žíznivému jsi vodu nedával a hladovému chleba odpíral.

8 (KJV) But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
8 (B21) ‚Mocnému přece patří svět, uznávaní se v něm umějí zabydlet.'

9 (KJV) Thou has sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
9 (B21) Vdovy jsi ale s prázdnou pryč posílal a sirotkům jsi drtil ramena.

10 (KJV) Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
10 (B21) To proto tě nyní obkličují osidla a náhle tě děsí pohroma,

11 (KJV) Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
11 (B21) proto je kolem tebe neprůhledná tma a přikrývá tě záplava.

12 (KJV) Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
12 (B21) Copak Bůh není tam v nebi nahoře? Jak vysoko jsou hvězdy - jen se podívej!

13 (KJV) And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
13 (B21) Ty ale říkáš: ‚Co Bůh ví? To může soudit přes mraky?

14 (KJV) Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
14 (B21) Oblaka cloní jej, takže nevidí, když po nebeské klenbě obchází.'

15 (KJV) Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
15 (B21) - To se chceš držet té staré stezky, kterou kráčeli lidé zlí?

16 (KJV) Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:
16 (B21) Ti byli vyrváni, než přišel jejich čas, jejich základy řeka odnesla.

17 (KJV) Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
17 (B21) Bohu říkali: ‚Nech nás být! Co by nám Všemohoucí mohl učinit?'

18 (KJV) Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
18 (B21) (Přitom jejich domy blahobytem naplnil. Myšlenky ničemů mě míjejí!)

19 (KJV) The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
19 (B21) Spravedliví jejich pád vidí s radostí, nevinní se smějí nad nimi:

20 (KJV) Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.
20 (B21) ‚Hleďme, jejich jmění je to tam, jejich bohatství oheň spolykal!'

21 (KJV) Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
21 (B21) Poddej se Bohu a najdeš klid, takto ti vzejde blahobyt.

22 (KJV) Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
22 (B21) Z jeho úst přijmi učení, vezmi si k srdci jeho výroky.

23 (KJV) If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
23 (B21) K Všemohoucímu když se navrátíš, on tě obnoví! Ze svého stanu vyžeň bezpráví,

24 (KJV) Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
24 (B21) své zlato musíš do prachu zahodit, ofirské zlato mezi říční balvany.

25 (KJV) Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.
25 (B21) Pak bude Všemohoucí zlatem tvým, hromadou stříbra bude ti.

26 (KJV) For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
26 (B21) Všemohoucí pak bude tvou rozkoší, až k Bohu tvář svou obrátíš.

27 (KJV) Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
27 (B21) Budeš se k němu modlit a on tě vyslyší, své sliby tehdy vyplníš.

28 (KJV) Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
28 (B21) Cokoli rozhodneš, obstojí, tvé cesty budou světlem zality.

29 (KJV) When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
29 (B21) ‚Hlavu vzhůru!' řekneš zkroušeným, a kdo klopí oči, toho Bůh zachrání.

30 (KJV) He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
30 (B21) Vysvobodí i toho, kdo není bez viny, vysvobozen bude pro čistotu rukou tvých."
