1 (CPDV) But Zophar the Naamathite, responding, said:
1 (ROH) Tu odpovedal Cófar Naamatský a riekol:

2 (CPDV) Will he who speaks much, not also listen? Or will a talkative man be justified?
2 (ROH) Či azda množstvo slov má zostať bez odpovedi? Ale je isté, že muž hojných rtov nebude spravedlivý.

3 (CPDV) Will men be silent only for you? And when you have mocked others, will no one refute you?
3 (ROH) Tvoje márne reči umlčujú ľudí; posmievaš sa, a niet toho, kto by ťa zahanbil,

4 (CPDV) For you said: “My word is pure, and I am clean in your sight.”
4 (ROH) a hovoríš: Moja náuka, je čistá, a vraj som čistý, Bože, v tvojich očiach.

5 (CPDV) Yet I wish that God would speak with you, and would open his lips to you,
5 (ROH) Ale oj, aby prehovoril Bôh a aby otvoril proti tebe svoje rty!

6 (CPDV) so that he might reveal to you the secrets of wisdom, and how intricate his law is, and that you would understand how much less he requires of you than your iniquity deserves.
6 (ROH) Vtedy by ti oznámil tajomstvá múdrosti, lebo dvakrát toľko si zaslúžil vskutku a vedz, že ti Bôh dáva zabudnúť mnoho z tvojej neprávosti.

7 (CPDV) By chance, will you comprehend the footsteps of God and reach all the way to the perfection of the Almighty?
7 (ROH) Či azda vystihneš hlbiny bytosti Boha? Či dosiahneš až po dokonalosť Všemohúceho?

8 (CPDV) He is higher than heaven, and what will you do? He is deeper than hell, but how will you know?
8 (ROH) Tam výšiny nebies - čo učiníš? Hlboké pod peklo - čo poznáš?

9 (CPDV) His measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
9 (ROH) Miera toho dlhšia ako zem a širšia ako more. -

10 (CPDV) If he overturns all things, or packs them together, who will contradict him?
10 (ROH) Jestli ta prejde Bôh a zavrie alebo keď svolá shromaždenie na súd, kto mu zabráni?

11 (CPDV) For he knows the vanity of men, and when he sees iniquity, does he not evaluate it?
11 (ROH) Lebo on zná ničomných ľudí márnych a vidí neprávosť a nepozoroval by?

12 (CPDV) A vain man is lifted up in arrogance, and he thinks that he is born free like a wild ass’s colt.
12 (ROH) A preto prázdny človek nech nadobudne rozumu, a divoké osľa nech sa preporodí v človeka!

13 (CPDV) But you have fortified your heart and extended your hands to him.
13 (ROH) Ak ty nastrojíš svoje srdce a rozprestrieš svoje ruky k nemu,

14 (CPDV) If you would send away from you the iniquity that is in your hand, and not let injustice remain in your tabernacle,
14 (ROH) - jestli je neprávosť v tvojej ruke, vzdiaľ ju od seba a nedopusti, aby v tvojich stánoch prebývala nešľachetnosť -

15 (CPDV) then you would be able to lift up your face without blemish, and you would be steadfast and unafraid.
15 (ROH) áno, vtedy pozdvihneš svoju tvár bez poškvrny; budeš stáť neochvejne a nebudeš sa báť;

16 (CPDV) Misery, likewise, you would forget, or would remember only like waters that have passed by.
16 (ROH) lebo ty zabudneš na trápenie; budeš naň spomínať ako na vody, ktoré sa pominuly,

17 (CPDV) And brightness, like that of midday, will rise upon you until evening, and when you would think yourself consumed, you will rise up like the morning star.
17 (ROH) a tvoj pozemský život nastane jasnejší nad poludnie, a nech by bolo tma, bude jako ráno.

18 (CPDV) And, when hope has been set before you, you will have faith, and, when buried, you will sleep secure.
18 (ROH) A budeš dúfať, lebo bude nádej, a keď poprezeráš príbytok, ľahneš si bezpečne

19 (CPDV) You will rest, and there will be nothing to make you afraid, and many will make requests before your face.
19 (ROH) a položiac sa budeš ležať v pokoji, a nebude nikoho, kto by poplašil, a mnohí budú hladkať tvoju tvár.

20 (CPDV) But the eyes of the impious will fade away, and the path to escape will perish before them, for the abomination of the soul is their hope.
20 (ROH) Ale oči bezbožných sa zatmejú, a útočište im zahynie, a ich nádej vydýchnutie duše.
