Ezd 3, 1-13

1 And now the seventh month had arrived, and the sons of Israel were in their cities. Then, the people were gathered together, like one man, in Jerusalem. 2 And Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, rose up with his brothers, the priests. And Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, rose up with his brothers. And they built the altar of the God of Israel, so that they might offer holocausts upon it, just as it was written in the law of Moses, the man of God. 3 Now they set the altar of God upon its bases, while keeping the people of all the surrounding lands away from it. And they offered upon it a holocaust to the Lord, morning and evening. 4 And they kept the solemnity of tabernacles, just as it was written, and the holocaust of each day in order, according to the precept, the work of each day in its time. 5 And after these, they offered the continual holocaust, as much on the new moons as on all the solemnities of the Lord that were consecrated, and on all those when a voluntary gift was offered to the Lord. 6 From the first day of the seventh month, they began to offer holocausts to the Lord. But the temple of God had not yet been founded. 7 And so they gave money to those who cut and laid stones. Similarly, they gave food, and drink, and oil to the Sidonians and the Tyrians, so that they would bring cedar wood, from Lebanon to the sea at Joppa, in accord with what had been commanded of them by Cyrus, the king of the Persians. 8 Then, in the second year of their advent to the temple of God in Jerusalem, in the second month, Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and the remainder of their brothers, the priests, and the Levites, and all who had arrived from the captivity to Jerusalem, began, and they appointed Levites, from twenty years and over, to hasten the work of the Lord. 9 And Jeshua and his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, and the sons of Judah, like one man, stood so that they might have charge over those who did the work in the temple of God: the sons of Henadad, and their sons, and their brothers, the Levites. 10 And when the builders had founded the temple of the Lord, the priests stood in their adornment with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, stood with cymbals, so that they might praise God by the hand of David, the king of Israel. 11 And they sung together with hymns and confession to the Lord: “For he is good. For his mercy is over Israel unto eternity.” And likewise, all the people shouted with a great clamor in praise to the Lord, because the temple of the Lord had been founded. 12 And many of the priests and the Levites, and the leaders of the fathers and of the elders, who had seen the former temple, when now this temple was founded and was before their eyes, wept with a great voice. And many of them, shouting for joy, lifted up their voice. 13 Neither could anyone distinguish between the voice of clamor of joy, and a voice of weeping of the people. For the shouting of the people mixed into a great clamor, and the voice was heard from far away.

And Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, rose up with his brothers, the priests. And Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, rose up with his brothers. And they built the altar of the God of Israel, so that they might offer holocausts upon it, just as it was written in the law of Moses, the man of God.

Dt 12:5 - Instead, you shall approach the place which the Lord your God will choose among all your tribes, so that he may set his name there, and may dwell in that place.

Now they set the altar of God upon its bases, while keeping the people of all the surrounding lands away from it. And they offered upon it a holocaust to the Lord, morning and evening.

Nm 28:3 - These are the sacrifices which you must offer: Two immaculate one-year-old lambs each day as a perpetual holocaust.

Verš 4

And they kept the solemnity of tabernacles, just as it was written, and the holocaust of each day in order, according to the precept, the work of each day in its time.

Lv 23:34 - Say to the sons of Israel: From the fifteenth day of this seventh month, there shall be the Feast of Tabernacles: seven days for the Lord.

Nm 29:12 - Yet truly, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, which shall be for you holy and venerable, you shall not do any servile work in it, but you shall celebrate a solemnity to the Lord for seven days.

And after these, they offered the continual holocaust, as much on the new moons as on all the solemnities of the Lord that were consecrated, and on all those when a voluntary gift was offered to the Lord.

Nm 28:11 - Then, on the first day of the month, you shall offer a holocaust to the Lord: two calves from the herd, one ram, seven immaculate one-year-old lambs,

Neh 10:33 - for the bread of the presence, and for the continual sacrifice, and for a continual holocaust on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, on the solemnities, and for the holy things, and for the sin offering, so that atonement would be made for Israel, and for every use within the house of our God.

Ezd 3,1 - Siedmy mesiac židovského kalendára nazýval sa tišrí. Trval od polovice septembra do polovice októbra. Zhromaždenie v Jeruzaleme bolo v prvom roku po návrate zo zajatia (537 pr. Kr.).

Ezd 3,2 - Oltár na obety celopalné vystavali Židia po návrate z Babylonu na starých základoch, lebo chceli čím skôr začať s obetami, ktoré predpisoval Zákon, aby si tak vyprosili ochranu a pomoc Božiu proti nepriateľsky naladeným Filištíncom, Amončanom a najmä Samaritánom. Tí sa totiž za vyhnanstva židovského usadili na okolí Jeruzalema a zaujali majetok tých Júdovcov, čo boli odvlečení do zajatia. Nuž je pochopiteľné, že nijako sa netešili Židom, keď sa hrnuli z Babylonu domov. – O rannej a večernej celopalnej obete pozri Nm 28,4; 2 Krn 31,3.

Ezd 3,11 - Porov. Ž 106 (105); 107 (106); 118 (117); 136 (135).

Ezd 3,12 - Mladší Židia jasali a boli natešení, že budú mať nový chrám. Starší zasa nahlas plakali, keď videli, že tento chrám, čo práve začínali stavať, bude iba slabou tôňou nádherného chrámu Šalamúnovho. Prorok Ageus ich však potešil predpoveďou, že tento druhý chrám prevýši veľkoleposťou chrám prvý, lebo jeho múry uzrú Mesiáša (porov. Ag 2,3.7; Zach 4,9; Mal 3,1).
