1 (HEM) וישכב אביה עם אבתיו ויקברו אתו בעיר דויד וימלך אסא בנו תחתיו בימיו שקטה הארץ עשר שנים׃
1 (UKJV) So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his position. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

2 (HEM) ויעש אסא הטוב והישר בעיני יהוה אלהיו׃
2 (UKJV) And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

3 (HEM) ויסר את מזבחות הנכר והבמות וישבר את המצבות ויגדע את האשרים׃
3 (UKJV) For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

4 (HEM) ויאמר ליהודה לדרוש את יהוה אלהי אבותיהם ולעשות התורה והמצוה׃
4 (UKJV) And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

5 (HEM) ויסר מכל ערי יהודה את הבמות ואת החמנים ותשקט הממלכה לפניו׃
5 (UKJV) Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 (HEM) ויבן ערי מצורה ביהודה כי שקטה הארץ ואין עמו מלחמה בשנים האלה כי הניח יהוה לו׃
6 (UKJV) "And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest. "

7 (HEM) ויאמר ליהודה נבנה את הערים האלה ונסב חומה ומגדלים דלתים ובריחים עודנו הארץ לפנינו כי דרשנו את יהוה אלהינו דרשנו וינח לנו מסביב ויבנו ויצליחו׃
7 (UKJV) "Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered. "

8 (HEM) ויהי לאסא חיל נשא צנה ורמח מיהודה שלש מאות אלף ומבנימן נשאי מגן ודרכי קשת מאתים ושמונים אלף כל אלה גבורי חיל׃
8 (UKJV) "And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour. "

9 (HEM) ויצא אליהם זרח הכושי בחיל אלף אלפים ומרכבות שלש מאות ויבא עד מרשה׃
9 (UKJV) "And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah. "

10 (HEM) ויצא אסא לפניו ויערכו מלחמה בגיא צפתה למרשה׃
10 (UKJV) Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 (HEM) ויקרא אסא אל יהוה אלהיו ויאמר יהוה אין עמך לעזור בין רב לאין כח עזרנו יהוה אלהינו כי עליך נשענו ובשמך באנו על ההמון הזה יהוה אלהינו אתה אל יעצר עמך אנוש׃
11 (UKJV) "And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you. "

12 (HEM) ויגף יהוה את הכושים לפני אסא ולפני יהודה וינסו הכושים׃
12 (UKJV) "So the LORD stroke the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. "

13 (HEM) וירדפם אסא והעם אשר עמו עד לגרר ויפל מכושים לאין להם מחיה כי נשברו לפני יהוה ולפני מחנהו וישאו שלל הרבה מאד׃
13 (UKJV) "And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil. "

14 (HEM) ויכו את כל הערים סביבות גרר כי היה פחד יהוה עליהם ויבזו את כל הערים כי בזה רבה היתה בהם׃
14 (UKJV) "And they stroke all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them. "

15 (HEM) וגם אהלי מקנה הכו וישבו צאן לרב וגמלים וישבו ירושלם׃
15 (UKJV) They stroke also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
