1 (HEM) ויבא רחבעם ירושלם ויקהל את בית יהודה ובנימן מאה ושמונים אלף בחור עשה מלחמה להלחם עם ישראל להשיב את הממלכה לרחבעם׃
1 (UKJV) And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2 (HEM) ויהי דבר יהוה אל שמעיהו איש האלהים לאמר׃
2 (UKJV) But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 (HEM) אמר אל רחבעם בן שלמה מלך יהודה ואל כל ישראל ביהודה ובנימן לאמר׃
3 (UKJV) Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 (HEM) כה אמר יהוה לא תעלו ולא תלחמו עם אחיכם שובו איש לביתו כי מאתי נהיה הדבר הזה וישמעו את דברי יהוה וישבו מלכת אל ירבעם׃
4 (UKJV) Thus says the LORD, All of you shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the LORD, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 (HEM) וישב רחבעם בירושלם ויבן ערים למצור ביהודה׃
5 (UKJV) And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.

6 (HEM) ויבן את בית לחם ואת עיטם ואת תקוע׃
6 (UKJV) He built even Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 (HEM) ואת בית צור ואת שוכו ואת עדלם׃
7 (UKJV) And Bethzur, and Shoco, and Adullam,

8 (HEM) ואת גת ואת מרשה ואת זיף׃
8 (UKJV) And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 (HEM) ואת אדורים ואת לכיש ואת עזקה׃
9 (UKJV) And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 (HEM) ואת צרעה ואת אילון ואת חברון אשר ביהודה ובבנימן ערי מצרות׃
10 (UKJV) And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.

11 (HEM) ויחזק את המצרות ויתן בהם נגידים ואצרות מאכל ושמן ויין׃
11 (UKJV) And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.

12 (HEM) ובכל עיר ועיר צנות ורמחים ויחזקם להרבה מאד ויהי לו יהודה ובנימן׃
12 (UKJV) And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.

13 (HEM) והכהנים והלוים אשר בכל ישראל התיצבו עליו מכל גבולם׃
13 (UKJV) And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.

14 (HEM) כי עזבו הלוים את מגרשיהם ואחזתם וילכו ליהודה ולירושלם כי הזניחם ירבעם ובניו מכהן ליהוה׃
14 (UKJV) For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:

15 (HEM) ויעמד לו כהנים לבמות ולשעירים ולעגלים אשר עשה׃
15 (UKJV) And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.

16 (HEM) ואחריהם מכל שבטי ישראל הנתנים את לבבם לבקש את יהוה אלהי ישראל באו ירושלם לזבוח ליהוה אלהי אבותיהם׃
16 (UKJV) And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the LORD God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the LORD God of their fathers.

17 (HEM) ויחזקו את מלכות יהודה ויאמצו את רחבעם בן שלמה לשנים שלוש כי הלכו בדרך דויד ושלמה לשנים שלוש׃
17 (UKJV) So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

18 (HEM) ויקח לו רחבעם אשה את מחלת בן ירימות בן דויד אביהיל בת אליאב בן ישי׃
18 (UKJV) "And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; "

19 (HEM) ותלד לו בנים את יעוש ואת שמריה ואת זהם׃
19 (UKJV) "Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham. "

20 (HEM) ואחריה לקח את מעכה בת אבשלום ותלד לו את אביה ואת עתי ואת זיזא ואת שלמית׃
20 (UKJV) "And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. "

21 (HEM) ויאהב רחבעם את מעכה בת אבשלום מכל נשיו ופילגשיו כי נשים שמונה עשרה נשא ופילגשים ששים ויולד עשרים ושמונה בנים וששים בנות׃
21 (UKJV) "And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and brings forth twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.) "

22 (HEM) ויעמד לראש רחבעם את אביה בן מעכה לנגיד באחיו כי להמליכו׃
22 (UKJV) And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.

23 (HEM) ויבן ויפרץ מכל בניו לכל ארצות יהודה ובנימן לכל ערי המצרות ויתן להם המזון לרב וישאל המון נשים׃
23 (UKJV) And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
